Yes, Gunther and Luann are lifelong friends. But, how will Bets react to the messages? Will those messages from her followers cause her to fight (no, not physically fight) for the relationship, or will she walk away from it?
I got a chuckle that the cyberbullies sound a little like us commenters. I think if I’ll say which one would be something I’d say… definitely “Who didn’t see this coming?” Cause, while I’m not a fan of Bets and Gunther as a couple, I’m mostly impartial to who is more “wrong” (they’re both mutually inconsistent and immature in different ways). I guess I feel bad for Bets to a degree, though really the way they split didn’t sound like (at least from Gunther’s point of view) he even knew if Bets and he were actually still a couple, so yeah she probably just assumed way, way too much.
I wonder what she’ll do next. Obviously big drama’s off the table (like in a fit of rage/sorrow/angst she drives Ruby right into the manse or off a cliff or something super extra.) So If I had to guess something wild… I wonder if she’ll end up going to Irma and tearfully accuse her of breaking her and Gunther up by suggesting the roadtrip (even though, logistically, Irma didn’t make Gunther and Bets choose the choices they did…) or asking Irma for the mother-hen routine so Irma will henpeck Gunther into patching things up with her.
Also, I called it on someone making you-know-what shaming remarks about Luann’s costume. Not a fan of that… though, I do appreciate whoever said, “Babe For Gunther,” charming that one. And “Why is Gunther a book?” for calling out Gunther’s really obscure costume idea being kinda dopey.
I feel really bad for Bets. However, I think this storyline shows the consequences of posting everything online and also how nasty people can really be. As great as the internet is, it has the capacity to reveal people’s true character.

Here my heart goes out to the Bets character, she is left with a dilemma; I’m guessing that BFG means Bets For Gunther, perhaps a signal. But they were bit directly communicating with each other so she may be hurt and leave, never knowing what Gunther might be trying to say. Maybe after she comes (a more hopeful scenario) she and Gunther reconnects and she backs off rhe socially media. Or finds a less personal way to use it. It’s not evil, as some seem to think.

She is finding that her fans are not loyal to her or supportive. She is also finding the fans saw through her narcissist act using Gunther as a prop. Now she knows why she’s losing followers without Gunther. Gunther is the more likable of the two.
Didn’t Bets say back when Tiff was trying to become a finfluencer that she’s used to dealing with nasty comments? I get her reaction to Gun with Luanne, but it seems weird she’d be letting the chat get to her so much.

How sad. For Bets, the support of her fans is important and now she sees that those who praised her a moment before, now are insulting and making fun of her. I think this is going to be a rude awakening for her about her whole influencer career. Let’s hope she’ll don’t stay reading the comments for hours and decide to go to the party to resolve the misunderstanding. However, Stef was really horrible by sharing that photo where even BetsNGun followers could see it. I wonder if she really wanted to push her away to have their room for her and Kip.
IIRC, last week there were some comments suggesting that G&K could have had Gunther pick a different Dahl book for his costume. Now we know why they had him pick the one he did.
Ok, going by this strip, should we assume Stef commented in Bet’s account? That’s a new low for her! Still think she’s too stupid to be doing it for a purpose, other than stirring the pot, drawing the spotlight on her, without thinking of consequences for anyone else (or maybe she’s even enjoying being mean).

I am sure that Bets knows that Gunther and Luann grew up together and are old friends. She was being unrealistic if she thought Gunther would be sitting and moaning for her at a party with all of his friends. My .02. 1st I think this was Stef being the mean catty witch we know her to be. 2nd, I think Bets (who has to know a little about the relationship between Gunther and Luann) will walk in and find out the truth, instead of simply leaving. BUT, you can see pain in Bets face, so hopefully it will work out and she will take a look into the mirror and understand that her social media stand isn’t as important as a good relationship can be.
…and that’s all social media is good for…people hiding behind a phone (or computer) making comments (like this one) with no regard to who it hurts, or makes mad, or depresses…they’re safe in their own puny world.

The internet is full of people (and cartoon characters) who willingly expose themselves to the darts and arrows of public opinion. It’s the internet – they chose it, they get to deal with it.
The only funny part of this strip is how stewpyd it is that NO ONE seems to be interested in the TRUTH – by, say, actually seeing Gun’ face to face? And am I the only one who continues to be disgusted and utterly mortified at Bets’ inability to function in the real world, with actual human people…instead basing her entire identity and existence on her “social” media presence and the interactions of countless nameless, faceless people who are as pathetic as her? Bet’s followers’ comments seem to reflect ours, but they don’t know it’s a doll-themed costume party, nor do they know Gunther is with Luann, a longtime friend. However, they are having an effect on Bets. Maybe she’s regretting leaving Gunther. Does she realize her selfishness, realize Gunter can move on, or thinking she’s losing money on her vlog? Although this twist may cause more comments for her as they have done here. ;-)
If any followers can post on her blog, Bets must be used to this. If I had a blog, I would want to control what is posted. Maybe have a few minutes delay so Bets could screen what goes on her blog so she can control it.
All the years that I followed this comic Tiff can’t stand Luann to just be happy with with any guy she always got to mess with Luann. Let Luann and Gun have some fun those two grew up together. Many times that makes for great couples in the real life. That drives people nuts this might be a new line on this comic Luann and Gun the drama would be thick that’s ok so is Luann and Gun.
It’s disappointing that Bets, who is usually so self-assured would let her follower’s comments bother her so much. I hope she’ll go inside and find that Gun wants to get back together with her as much as she does.
This is entirely Bets fault for not communicating with Gunther. If she thought they were still together, she should have told him what her plans were. Stef simply posted a photo she took at a party. Lots of other people are at the party and saw the same thing Stef saw, it is not some big secret that Stef blabbed. If Bets cares about Gunther at all she would go inside and actually talk to him. It does not seem like they have been in touch for several weeks or more.
People hating on Bets, but here’s where her insecurity comes into action. And this is a prime example of how peer pressure affects others. Doesn’t affect you and Bets should do this or that. Great. Give yourself a cookie. Not everyone has thick skin and can brush it off. For some people, it doesn’t take much.

This is a very silly and contrived conflict. She knows Luann and Gunther are friends. There is nothing salacious about that photo. Plus kids on social media know their friends pose for photos with their friends all the time.
I actually didn’t see the question mark behind (Gun’s new gal?) Yesterday. That doesn’t say anything definitive about them being a couple. But fans on social media will let you have it if they get the chance. Whether they follow you or not.
Live by the Internet, die by the internet. This will be great for her ratings, which is all she cares about. The “breakup” online will last a month and she’ll video the whole thing. Disgusting and yet this may be how teens live today. Not like we did, before fame become more important than friendship, decency and love.
Bets isn’t drawn to show she’s crying, but I do think she’s a bit stunned and hurt by what she sees in the picture. She does know Luann, but most likely she doesn’t realize that this is a costume party and that Dolly is Luann. While I’ve never cared for how Bets always yanked Gunther’s chain and made him follow her whims, this does seem particularly cruel. I don’t doubt for a minute that lil miss homespun Stef had an ulterior motive of some sort, but I think it’s not all that diabolical, she just wants to shack up with Kip and keep Bets out of the dorm room if she can. Personally, I think that will backfire on Stef. (Yes! Let Bernice move back in!)
Then again, this is just a comic strip and we routinely suspend belief for comics, film, books, news reports, and whatever else. Creative license and all that.

Scrolling through all that fake news. Who do you believe? Well, if she goes with her heart, then she’ll race in a greet her man. If she goes for all the media stuff, she’ll turn the engine back on and race off in tears. If Gun still means anything to her, then he’s worth facing and finding out the truth. Maybe then that’ll teach her not to take him for granted and not do that again!

Y’all notice, they are comments that have been posted here and Arcamax in the past. I know, they have to send scripts in ahead of times, but these reader comments have been posted for a long time. Also, even though BFG has been clarified by readers at both sites, it does set up the two comments that follow, so that was probably part of the plan for this arc.
If Bets and Gunther have kept any contact at all since he has been back, she should know the score. Plus how would Stefani know the situation with Gunther and Bets? I know she knows Bets, but how well? She was gone for the summer. Has Stefani ever met Gunther other than to hear his name pop up in the quad, maybe? I don’t recall her meeting Luann either. I doubt she and Tiffany really talk to each other unless its to throw insults. So why would she have even posted what she did other than another contrivance by the authors.
As being a script for Bets dumping Gunther as a cheater, its typical Hallmark (of course, the dumper finds out by the end, they never heard the full story and all ends well with a make-up kiss). Personally, I don’t see Gunther with either Luann nor Tiffany as a long term relationship. Tiffany would dump him the nanosecond after if Kip and Stefani should ever split up. After all, she barely gives Ox the time of day. As for Luann, she has no clue as to what she really wants in life nor a burning ambition. His best pairing might be Bernice, but would he want to live a life of insults and criticisms he would probably have to suffer with her.
Bets has realized the backlash of being a social media influencer. She will be more attentive to Gunther than her fans from here on in, but she won’t neglect them.

Ok, going by this strip, should we assume Stef commented in Bet’s account? That’s a new low for her! Still think she’s too stupid to be doing it for a purpose, other than stirring the pot, drawing the spotlight on her, without thinking of consequences for anyone else (or maybe she’s even enjoying being mean).
This doesn’t necessarily mean she is aware Bets is outside, as she wouldn’t be paying too much attention to her account during a party… but this remains to be seen!
What’s certain is that Bets is now seeing the bad side of social media. Good!

My .02. 1st I think this was Stef being the mean catty witch we know her to be. 2nd, I think Bets (who has to know a little about the relationship between Gunther and Luann) will walk in and find out the truth, instead of simply leaving. BUT, you can see pain in Bets face, so hopefully it will work out and she will take a look into the mirror and understand that her social media stand isn’t as important as a good relationship can be.

And we get to have yet another personality change. Bets – the long term thick-skinned internet queen – is suddenly all boo-hoo about what people post about her?? Get real. So now they’re going to portray her as upset about what people say on line and garner sympathy for her character (which is already evidenced in many posts today). All of this will lead up to a joyous reconciling with Gunther and hopefully, her kicking the blog addiction. An added bonus would be Bets beating the crap out of Steffanie, but I guess that’s too much to ask.
Just a reminder – people who make their living through public exposure are not exempt from ridicule and gossip when they trip and stub their toe. The internet is full of people (and cartoon characters) who willingly expose themselves to the darts and arrows of public opinion. It’s the internet – they chose it, they get to deal with it.

However, they are having an effect on Bets. Maybe she’s regretting leaving Gunther. Does she realize her selfishness, realize Gunter can move on, or thinking she’s losing money on her vlog? This is entirely Bets fault for not communicating with Gunther. If she thought they were still together, she should have told him what her plans were. Stef simply posted a photo she took at a party. Lots of other people are at the party and saw the same thing Stef saw, it is not some big secret that Stef blabbed. If Bets cares about Gunther at all she would go inside and actually talk to him. It does not seem like they have been in touch for several weeks or more.

Bets isn’t drawn to show she’s crying, but I do think she’s a bit stunned and hurt by what she sees in the picture. She does know Luann, but most likely she doesn’t realize that this is a costume party and that Dolly is Luann. While I’ve never cared for how Bets always yanked Gunther’s chain and made him follow her whims, this does seem particularly cruel. I don’t doubt for a minute that lil miss homespun Stef had an ulterior motive of some sort, but I think it’s not all that diabolical, she just wants to shack up with Kip and keep Bets out of the dorm room if she can. Personally, I think that will backfire on Stef. (Yes! Let Bernice move back in!)
Then again, this is just a comic strip and we routinely suspend belief for comics, film, books, news reports, and whatever else. Creative license and all that.

Y’all notice, they are comments that have been posted here and Arcamax in the past. I know, they have to send scripts in ahead of times, but these reader comments have been posted for a long time. Also, even though BFG has been clarified by readers at both sites, it does set up the two comments that follow, so that was probably part of the plan for this arc.
If Bets and Gunther have kept any contact at all since he has been back, she should know the score. Plus how would Stefani know the situation with Gunther and Bets? I know she knows Bets, but how well? She was gone for the summer. Has Stefani ever met Gunther other than to hear his name pop up in the quad, maybe? I don’t recall her meeting Luann either. I doubt she and Tiffany really talk to each other unless its to throw insults. So why would she have even posted what she did other than another contrivance by the authors.
As being a script for Bets dumping Gunther as a cheater, its typical Hallmark (of course, the dumper finds out by the end, they never heard the full story and all ends well with a make-up kiss). Personally, I don’t see Gunther with either Luann nor Tiffany as a long term relationship. Tiffany would dump him the nanosecond after if Kip and Stefani should ever split up. After all, she barely gives Ox the time of day. As for Luann, she has no clue as to what she really wants in life nor a burning ambition. His best pairing might be Bernice, but would he want to live a life of insults and criticisms he would probably have to suffer with her.
