This is part of why I am no fan of so-called ‘social’ media. It’s not social. It’s anti-social. No one has any idea that someone else might want some privacy anymore. It’s not just posting pix of every possible meal you eat, now it’s any embarrassing moment you’ve ever had. And of course people can photoshop the pix into something even worse…

Gunther, you need to grow a set. Do what rosa wanted you to do and be spontaneous, not everything in your life has to be rigidly planned to the smallest detail. Sweep bets off her feet by dipping her and frenching her. Then what happens…well, happens.
Well, Bets has definitely lost me now. She understands Gun enough to know that he would not want that published. She didn’t care. So much for taking care of friends.

I wonder if this is leading to a story arc on “consent”, where the stereotypical gender roles are being flipped to make it appear less preachy. Sadly, even in this increasingly “woke” age many folks still don’t get the concept so it’s a tale worth telling. I’m hopefully intrigued that there will some good life lessons mixed in with the humor. And I like Bets as a new character so hopefully she has the capacity to learn and grow from this misstep.
So is this all part of Bet’s plan to get a big audience to sell the lingerie? If they make a lot of money, Gunther may wind up seeing all this differently. When the evening comes to a close, we’ll see if Bets acts like a girlfriend. Otherwise I may start to agree with the other posters.

Looks like Gun (ugh) is being dragged into an on-line social world he may not be comfortable with. (with which he may not be comfortable for all the grammar trolls out there.)
Now, if Bets has created a site for her relationship with Gunther and there are hundreds of followers on social media, then Luann should have spotted this and contacted Gunther.
Admittedly, the lingerie showed to an advantage against the darker background of Gun’s shirt. (And “Gun” is a hellovabetter nickname than “Gunthie” or “Gunth”). Depending on the Instagram following, if Bets and Gun continue shooting the lingerie as Gun puts it on his mannequin, I’m going with an arc of Instagram celebrities, sudden fame & fortune, and dealing with all that comes with instant success.
I also think they need to discuss candid shots, takes multiples, and both select the ones for publication on the web.

Perhaps Gunther’s little photo will go net-viral, after being photoshopped and cropped, that is. “Certain” folks will get wind of it and consequences will ensue. Not all being hilarious (sorry 1212 ). The possibilities abound. Les’ reaction? Irma’s? Luann’s for starting all this? Tiffany’s for “wearing” her lingerie and destroying the price?
One way or another I see a hiccup coming into our little garden of bliss. Tomorrow will tell.
What Bets is doing is inexcusable! She claims to care for Gunther then does this. This goes far beyond being a little controlling. This is mean spirited and humiliating. I had such high hopes for this relationship, especially since she was getting along so well with Tiffany. Sooner or later, everyone dumps on Gunther and it isn’t fair. I’m so sad and disappointed today.
It is interesting to note that at first it was Gunther who seemed hooked on electronic media, texting etc. and Bets was having none of this (she was focused on Gunther). Now suddenly the tables are turned and it’s not ‘even’ . Are they now ‘even’ and they will sort out the issue of electronic media in their lives and relationship, or are they over.
I commented that Bets was controlling on the first strip she appeared in, and people said I was wrong and tried to justify her behavior. I think this makes it pretty clear what kind of person she is. I think it would be best for Gunther to be rid of her.
Bets was mad about Gunther answering the phone when they were on a date (good reason to be mad) and now she is seeming to expect a positive response to Gunther being humiliated on the ’net. In any sensible world this would be the end of the relationship.
what about the camera lens peeking from behind Gunthers back…yesterday’s comic…between his legs? Bets is all about the online thing and thats whats gonna kill this relationship.
I think a lot of people are over-reacting to Bets’ actions today. Yes, she should have asked permission. But it’s not that big a deal. It will be obvious he is not really wearing the lingerie and it’s just one of those funny photos.

Food for thought, the overarching theme of this arc, which began in January, was Luann spends too much time on her phone. Which turned into Luanncreates a robo date account for Gunther. Which turned into two dates, one of which was Bets and Gunther.
Time out for a second – notice that Luann and Doug went nowhere immediately. But I digress. Back to Gunther.
Back when Bets was too-good-to-be-true, the one thing Gunther did that frustrated everybody, fans and foes alike, is that Gunther could not ignore his phone, no matter what.
Oh, no! I can’t believe I’m about to say this! Karma just came back! As in…
The author of Luann preys upon the readers in order to gain a large response. He knows what to write to wire up the readers and he succeeds. Obviously he controls the next turn and his direction is all about keeping the followers. Many of you continue to acknowledge this is simply a comic strip. It is not real. It is simply whatever Greg Evans desires. It’s his thoughts.
Gun is about to go MGTOW, and I would not blame him one bit for that. Bets is doing what many modern young women do; making it all about just them; the boyfriend is an accessory to be flaunted when convenient. Then, they wonder where all the good men have gone, when it is actually time to settle down.
Meanwhile, men have learned to never pay full retail (i.e. put a ring on it) for a THOT, which Bets may be revealing herself to be.
Could this all be a joke on Bets’ part? An little white lie? An object lesson in how not to use one’s cell phone? In other words, is it possible that there is no instagram account and no 100+ followers, and this is just Bets trying to make a point about the use of cell phones in a relationship?
There is no point in trying to respond to MD, as there are 79 responses so far. It would be swallowed in the all the outrage. I was one of those who worried about the phone cam picture being taken of Gunther in what appears to be embarrassing. No chance for him to say no or yes , click, on the internet. I was worried about this, so much personal destruction, I mean the most embarrassing thing can be seen forever by who knows how many people! But today I get the point of the arc. Bets represents Gen Z (born after generally 1998) and people none of us fall there. We use the net, and we are kind of good with a lot of it, but we can never understand completely what Millennials do on it, and now Gen Z comes along, making the Millennials start to look old. 219 followers on Instagram! That is amazing, and not at all content, it really is the more crazy (at least in our eyes) a picture appears the more “followers” you get and those numbers are what really matters. There is no shame in Instagram, probably why I never plan to get on it. But Bets is totally a digital expert, far more than Gunther is (she met him on the dating site, which he resisted, now look what happened). I think MD and all of us need to TAKE A DAMMED DEEP BREATH. Relax. I daresay that Bets had only a good motive, to get followers, and it will end up fine in the end. This is a change for me too, but I think I see from today’s panels what the arc is trying to say, and it’s not shame and perdition.
A few of you have wondering how Bets could have created an account and developed a following so quickly – I think she created the account either during or shortly after their first date at the Trek Convention. She’s probably been posting comments and photos ever since.
OUR followers? She means hers. Gunny had nothing to do with perpetuating his page after Luann made the initial posting. Bets has picked up the ball and ran with it. I liked her at first, as I thought she would be the one to pull him out of his shell. Now, I’m not so sure. She most definitely crossed the line – twice. She did that first, by taking the picture, second, by posting. She might think she’s being playful and imaginative, but tone deaf in regards to Gunny’s feelings, like his mother. SactoSylvia is correct about Bets oversharing. Gunny has been walked over his whole life, and continues to be until he hits a breaking point. It happened with Rosa, it will happen again. It needs to happen not only with this situation, but with all the women who feel Gunny is little more than a plaything to be set aside when they get bored.
Meanwhile, over on “Luann Againn”, Frank is bemoaning the bills for Luann and Brad’s clothes. Nancy is explaining that ‘teens grow and need new clothes’, and telling Frank that he can’t do anything about that. Frank answers that maybe the family should go live in a nudist colony. And Nancy asks for his definition of ‘embarassing’.

Bets is now so pushy and annoying. Don’t just do things without talking first and without permission. She seems to have some weird agenda and is moving along and dragging Gunth with her. Come on Gunth, wake up and say something useful.

Weird that Bets started an account without Gunther’s (sorry, he will never be ‘Gun’ to me) permission or at least knowledge3. A bit dodgythat she is merging their lives so quickly. The ready “us” language feels like it is a but rushed. 4. Is anyone else wondering how a few pieces of underwear will pay for a private room (I know this has been posted- speaking tongue-in-cheek)?5. I am wondering about the clientele who will buy lingerie on eBay . Granted, tags stillOn, but—- is it just me??
Ugh. Doesn’t Bets know that once embarrassing photos are posted on Facebook, Instagram, etc, they are FOREVER in public domain? Might seem to be light-hearted fun now, but once Gunther grows up, potential employers may see it. Or customs officials in foreign countries, or bullies at the workplace, or if Gunther goes into politics, political rivals may dredge up old pics like this and falsely accuse him of being a cross-dresser, gay, etc. just to smear him.
I generally like Bets, but this is a major blunder. It would have taken a few seconds to ask, “What say I post this on Instagram for our followers?” Girl needs to learn about boundaries and respect for her new bf.
Right now I’d love to see Gunther stand up to Bets and make her take down the photo. Gunther is learning a lot in this relationship with Bets, and I hope that he learns to respect himself instead of letting a girl take advantage of him. This is not ok.
@BEARHAMILTON: Rosa did NOT ‘walk all over’ Gunther. She cared about him enough to go with him to the prom and didn’t manipulate or walk all over him when he decided to take her home so early that they were hardly there. She decided to go to Peru because, as an idealist, she thought she’d be working in her uncle’s business helping others (didn’t work out that way) and she invited Gunther to come. She didn’t walk all over him to get him to go with her. And when he decided he had to leave – not just because he wanted to go to college but because he was upset that his mother was dating – Rosa didn’t walk all over Gunther to get him to stay and work with her out in the rural area. Rosa was an idealistic, decent soul and just because you think the world of Gunther does not mean you have to diss every single other character who has ever come in contact with him.
Oh, and you believe that his mother mistreated him? I grew up with a mother who was widowed really young and did her best to support me and a (now passed) younger bro. My mom had offers from families to adopt us, but she kept us together. I never saw evidence of mistreatment of Gunther by his mother, and if she was the ‘walk all over you’ type, she could easily have just put him up for adoption and walked away.
OK, time to consolidate the info that I have posted in various spots all over this, my most participatory Luann strip in history.
I predicted a business alliance of Bets and Tiff, and that looks plausible. It could arise with a love-triangle sub-plot, given the history between Tiff and Gun. “United Colors of Betiffigun.” All of Gun’s engineering education, coupled with his love of sewing, could get him into a rather interesting design career that surrounds him with all sorts of beautiful women. THAT’s what I call irony, and I hereby make the prediction. Naturally, Gun can’t have any of these model babes, but his childhood friend can be there as his emotional anchor and female sounding board, making for a classic friends-to-lovers transition that should satisfy almost everyone.
The possibility of Gun going full MGTOW also exists. The backlash to feminism has reached critical mass, and is a large component of the statistics on the sex lives of Americans (numbers indicating that we’re getting less and less). Bets’ behavior with the photo is a bit THOT-like, but we do not know enough about Bets to completely brand her as a THOT, just yet. The jury is out on whether or not she will take Gun’s virginity, if that still exists. It may be argued that Rosa or Tiff has already taken it.
This whole story arc could be a plot device to kill off a character via texting and driving, an issue that has been brought to the forefront via tragedy, and now has become a part of numerous legislative agendas and outcomes. Bets would be an obvious candidate, based on today’s reactions alone, but what utility remains for Jack (whom I have predicted will have a tragic ending)? Lu has him in the friend zone, although it has been telegraphed that he may not be content with that. LuJack being a thing for a minute, only to have Jack be lost to tragedy would serve to make Lu vulnerable and available. She is that way now, but it is too early, in terms of my ultimate prediction.
Does this boy ever get turned on? He has had opportunities with some of the hottest ladies and the best he can do is sweat. Testosterone, testosterone where fore art thou testosterone?
All I can say is that today’s comic is extremely disappointing. I am not happy with Bets’s actions today. Very inappropriate and unkind.
Hopefully, it will resolve ok…. but that will need to be Gunther’s choice… if he can accept what Bets has done and also get her to realize how inconsiderate her actions were in posting the image without his permission.
A reader on another site brought up this very good point: Gunther just found out today that Bets considers them a couple. In other words, since it takes two to tango, this is their first official day as a couple. Yet Bets already has a joint IG account created for them that she’s been posting pictures to without Gunther’s knowledge or consent, and she’s had it long enough to build up followers?
Time after time, we think the relationship is over and somehow it is healed (temporarily at least). This time the ball is in Gunther’s court; he has to decide how and if he wants to fix this. The previous two times it was Bets who called out Gunth’s rude answering of his phone (making arrangements with others) sometimes right in the middle of her sentence. Each time they came to an understanding and moved on. Now, Gunther needs to tell Bets that she has to choose between him and those 219 followers whose feelings she seems to care about. It is hard to imagine that G&K would create this seemingly good match, have Bets find interests in common with other characters (Tiff) only to can the whole thing. Bets doesn’t seem like a mean, scheming and uncaring person; but she has a problem with social media (as do many in her age range).
Amazing how this has gone from Bets taking a questionable picture of Gunther and (maybe) posting it on Instagram to “Jack, Bets, and Jonah are all going to die in a car accident.”
May I present a couple of less extreme ways this could play out, assuming it does play out tomorrow:
Gun: Bets, I don’t like that at all! Take that photo down!Bets: OK, It’s gone. Sorry, Gun.
or, Bets: Just kidding, Gun. I’d never do that to you!
Boy you’re not kidding! Privacy is no laughing matter, especially “online privacy” which is barely existent as it is. All social media and other “platforms” are data collection bases, all images do not go to those who intend to see them (even those to they think are “okay” or benign).
Had a similar thing happen, we took my mom out for her birthday, neighbor friends took pics which was fine. BEFORE WE KNEW IT ALL of our faces were on FACEBOOK, WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION (my sister and I PURPOSELY do not have Facebook accounts for the reasons I mentioned above). We were furious!
I know this is a “fictional” and amusing story-line, but it implies the idea of posting unwanted pics (not consented to) on social media is “normal” and “benign.” Nothing can be further from the truth! Very reckless of the Greg Evans to do so.

Admittedly, the lingerie showed to an advantage against the darker background of Gun’s shirt. (And “Gun” is a hellovabetter nickname than “Gunthie” or “Gunth”). Depending on the Instagram following, if Bets and Gun continue shooting the lingerie as Gun puts it on his mannequin, I’m going with an arc of Instagram celebrities, sudden fame & fortune, and dealing with all that comes with instant success.
I also think they need to discuss candid shots, takes multiples, and both select the ones for publication on the web.

@Cheapskate0 After a blindingly fast meet-an-greet to being hooked up (nearly) we seem to have hit the doldrums. The eBay effort is languishing in photo games. We’re set up for a cliffhanger tomorrow. What will it be?
Perhaps Gunther’s little photo will go net-viral, after being photoshopped and cropped, that is. “Certain” folks will get wind of it and consequences will ensue. Not all being hilarious (sorry 1212 ). The possibilities abound. Les’ reaction? Irma’s? Luann’s for starting all this? Tiffany’s for “wearing” her lingerie and destroying the price?
One way or another I see a hiccup coming into our little garden of bliss. Tomorrow will tell.

What Bets is doing is inexcusable! She claims to care for Gunther then does this. This goes far beyond being a little controlling. This is mean spirited and humiliating. I had such high hopes for this relationship, especially since she was getting along so well with Tiffany. Sooner or later, everyone dumps on Gunther and it isn’t fair. I’m so sad and disappointed today.

It is interesting to note that at first it was Gunther who seemed hooked on electronic media, texting etc. and Bets was having none of this (she was focused on Gunther). Now suddenly the tables are turned and it’s not ‘even’ . Are they now ‘even’ and they will sort out the issue of electronic media in their lives and relationship, or are they over.

Food for thought, the overarching theme of this arc, which began in January, was Luann spends too much time on her phone. Which turned into Luann creates a robo date account for Gunther. Which turned into two dates, one of which was Bets and Gunther.
Time out for a second – notice that Luann and Doug went nowhere immediately. But I digress. Back to Gunther.
Back when Bets was too-good-to-be-true, the one thing Gunther did that frustrated everybody, fans and foes alike, is that Gunther could not ignore his phone, no matter what.

Gun is about to go MGTOW, and I would not blame him one bit for that. Bets is doing what many modern young women do; making it all about just them; the boyfriend is an accessory to be flaunted when convenient. Then, they wonder where all the good men have gone, when it is actually time to settle down.
Meanwhile, men have learned to never pay full retail (i.e. put a ring on it) for a THOT, which Bets may be revealing herself to be.

There is no point in trying to respond to MD, as there are 79 responses so far. It would be swallowed in the all the outrage. I was one of those who worried about the phone cam picture being taken of Gunther in what appears to be embarrassing. No chance for him to say no or yes , click, on the internet. I was worried about this, so much personal destruction, I mean the most embarrassing thing can be seen forever by who knows how many people! But today I get the point of the arc. Bets represents Gen Z (born after generally 1998) and people none of us fall there. We use the net, and we are kind of good with a lot of it, but we can never understand completely what Millennials do on it, and now Gen Z comes along, making the Millennials start to look old. 219 followers on Instagram! That is amazing, and not at all content, it really is the more crazy (at least in our eyes) a picture appears the more “followers” you get and those numbers are what really matters. There is no shame in Instagram, probably why I never plan to get on it. But Bets is totally a digital expert, far more than Gunther is (she met him on the dating site, which he resisted, now look what happened). I think MD and all of us need to TAKE A DAMMED DEEP BREATH. Relax. I daresay that Bets had only a good motive, to get followers, and it will end up fine in the end. This is a change for me too, but I think I see from today’s panels what the arc is trying to say, and it’s not shame and perdition.

OUR followers? She means hers. Gunny had nothing to do with perpetuating his page after Luann made the initial posting. Bets has picked up the ball and ran with it. I liked her at first, as I thought she would be the one to pull him out of his shell. Now, I’m not so sure. She most definitely crossed the line – twice. She did that first, by taking the picture, second, by posting. She might think she’s being playful and imaginative, but tone deaf in regards to Gunny’s feelings, like his mother. SactoSylvia is correct about Bets oversharing. Gunny has been walked over his whole life, and continues to be until he hits a breaking point. It happened with Rosa, it will happen again. It needs to happen not only with this situation, but with all the women who feel Gunny is little more than a plaything to be set aside when they get bored.

Ugh. Doesn’t Bets know that once embarrassing photos are posted on Facebook, Instagram, etc, they are FOREVER in public domain? Might seem to be light-hearted fun now, but once Gunther grows up, potential employers may see it. Or customs officials in foreign countries, or bullies at the workplace, or if Gunther goes into politics, political rivals may dredge up old pics like this and falsely accuse him of being a cross-dresser, gay, etc. just to smear him.
I generally like Bets, but this is a major blunder. It would have taken a few seconds to ask, “What say I post this on Instagram for our followers?” Girl needs to learn about boundaries and respect for her new bf.

@BEARHAMILTON: Rosa did NOT ‘walk all over’ Gunther. She cared about him enough to go with him to the prom and didn’t manipulate or walk all over him when he decided to take her home so early that they were hardly there. She decided to go to Peru because, as an idealist, she thought she’d be working in her uncle’s business helping others (didn’t work out that way) and she invited Gunther to come. She didn’t walk all over him to get him to go with her. And when he decided he had to leave – not just because he wanted to go to college but because he was upset that his mother was dating – Rosa didn’t walk all over Gunther to get him to stay and work with her out in the rural area. Rosa was an idealistic, decent soul and just because you think the world of Gunther does not mean you have to diss every single other character who has ever come in contact with him.
Oh, and you believe that his mother mistreated him? I grew up with a mother who was widowed really young and did her best to support me and a (now passed) younger bro. My mom had offers from families to adopt us, but she kept us together. I never saw evidence of mistreatment of Gunther by his mother, and if she was the ‘walk all over you’ type, she could easily have just put him up for adoption and walked away.

OK, time to consolidate the info that I have posted in various spots all over this, my most participatory Luann strip in history.
I predicted a business alliance of Bets and Tiff, and that looks plausible. It could arise with a love-triangle sub-plot, given the history between Tiff and Gun. “United Colors of Betiffigun.” All of Gun’s engineering education, coupled with his love of sewing, could get him into a rather interesting design career that surrounds him with all sorts of beautiful women. THAT’s what I call irony, and I hereby make the prediction. Naturally, Gun can’t have any of these model babes, but his childhood friend can be there as his emotional anchor and female sounding board, making for a classic friends-to-lovers transition that should satisfy almost everyone.
The possibility of Gun going full MGTOW also exists. The backlash to feminism has reached critical mass, and is a large component of the statistics on the sex lives of Americans (numbers indicating that we’re getting less and less). Bets’ behavior with the photo is a bit THOT-like, but we do not know enough about Bets to completely brand her as a THOT, just yet. The jury is out on whether or not she will take Gun’s virginity, if that still exists. It may be argued that Rosa or Tiff has already taken it.
This whole story arc could be a plot device to kill off a character via texting and driving, an issue that has been brought to the forefront via tragedy, and now has become a part of numerous legislative agendas and outcomes. Bets would be an obvious candidate, based on today’s reactions alone, but what utility remains for Jack (whom I have predicted will have a tragic ending)? Lu has him in the friend zone, although it has been telegraphed that he may not be content with that. LuJack being a thing for a minute, only to have Jack be lost to tragedy would serve to make Lu vulnerable and available. She is that way now, but it is too early, in terms of my ultimate prediction.

All I can say is that today’s comic is extremely disappointing. I am not happy with Bets’s actions today. Very inappropriate and unkind.
Hopefully, it will resolve ok…. but that will need to be Gunther’s choice… if he can accept what Bets has done and also get her to realize how inconsiderate her actions were in posting the image without his permission.

Time after time, we think the relationship is over and somehow it is healed (temporarily at least). This time the ball is in Gunther’s court; he has to decide how and if he wants to fix this. The previous two times it was Bets who called out Gunth’s rude answering of his phone (making arrangements with others) sometimes right in the middle of her sentence. Each time they came to an understanding and moved on. Now, Gunther needs to tell Bets that she has to choose between him and those 219 followers whose feelings she seems to care about. It is hard to imagine that G&K would create this seemingly good match, have Bets find interests in common with other characters (Tiff) only to can the whole thing. Bets doesn’t seem like a mean, scheming and uncaring person; but she has a problem with social media (as do many in her age range).

Boy you’re not kidding! Privacy is no laughing matter, especially “online privacy” which is barely existent as it is. All social media and other “platforms” are data collection bases, all images do not go to those who intend to see them (even those to they think are “okay” or benign).
Had a similar thing happen, we took my mom out for her birthday, neighbor friends took pics which was fine. BEFORE WE KNEW IT ALL of our faces were on FACEBOOK, WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION (my sister and I PURPOSELY do not have Facebook accounts for the reasons I mentioned above). We were furious!
I know this is a “fictional” and amusing story-line, but it implies the idea of posting unwanted pics (not consented to) on social media is “normal” and “benign.” Nothing can be further from the truth! Very reckless of the Greg Evans to do so.
