Im new to this comic. I used to comic on big nate but i figured why not here! seems like the comic is growing and there is a better community.

Focus Ladies, this is not about you two. You’re supposed to be helping Gunther.

And everyone was so worried that Bets would come back and be even more furious that Gunther is talking to two of his (female) ‘old friends’ and would break off with him for good. Meanwhile, a totally different direction - Gunther is going to abandon Luann and Bernice (who may not even notice that he’s gone while they fight). Gunther will call an Uber and call it a night. Bets will show up while Luann and Bernice are fighting, and ask them if they’ve seen Gunther…

I thought this might happen. Lu and Bern are so busy trying to one-up each other, they’ve lost focus on Gunther and his problem.

Maybe the poor dude should just walk home.

More likely, since G&K use weeks to express minutes of time, Bets will return before Gunther leaves.

I went back over the last several days and re-read where gunther told bets “i love you.” I think i may have royally misread her reaction. It’s not of guilt. She doesn’t want to love gunther, just use him for cosplay for comic-cons and social media likes. Bets doesn’t want a relationship with a man, she just wants a boy-toy for sex. Gunther wants more than that.

It’s not always about you two brats. Just “help” Gunther

Two words: Luann’s jealous. I can see, she just want to break Gunther and Bets up.

Wow, these two lasted a whole 5 seconds before making everything about themselves again. Like I said, Gunther needs to pick better people to confide in; anything is better than The Simpleton And The Snob.

Closet, Luann? That is bizarre. And Bernice does say the truth – highly emotional and stressed-out people do make a cop-out statement like that to escape a situation. And, Bernice, focus on Gunther. You can have that talk with Luann another time (that conversation is long overdue – Luann needs to get her life together. She is just drifting through her life aimlessly).

None of you guys want to talk about the Weenie employee’s mask? Just this bunch of nonsense? Anyway, Luann has many years to choose a major, at this strip’s pace. At least she didn’t choose one that doesn’t suit her, like Bernice has done.

Just call an Uber and go outside to wait for it Gunther while Luann fumes at Bernice because she still has not declared a major and is sick of Bern being a know-it-all. I kind of expected for Bernice to quote Psychology 201 textbook facts and she did with that escape strategy lingo but Luann is acting a lot denser than I would have guessed yesterday with the closet comment. Right now G&K have Luann acting like Brad over on the 28 year old retro strip: very shallow and obviously not too bright……

It would be funny if Luann turned out to be right, but I don’t even know what she is talking about.

You’d think that a psyc major would know to not force your advice on others.

I think Gunther is considering the advantages of celibacy, homosexuality, and empty hookups about now.

Did anyone catch the “Wheel of Fortune” earlier (4/28)? They had a contestant who almost looked like Bets, but older. I did a double-take when I saw her. I think she said she had 2 or 3 kids, but don’t remember their ages, she was probably mid-30s to early 40s.

So, this has continued to go nowhere from yesteday.

First frame is funny. Luann is straight-faced, but I think she is adding some levity, but Bernice doesn’t get, then explodes out of proportion, while Gunther is getting no help.

To me this is a.pretty good sign that Bets will show up again. Something else will happen though while Bernice and Luann argue over silly, non helpful upsmanship. Gunther appears a bit more focused in the last panel, a clue that a transition is about to occur.

I might add they both might be right though; misdirection play coming.

Heck, why not just leave and show up at Tiffany’s for a great meal and time. Why worry anymore? What’s happened has happened, just let it go and move on. Live it up and enjoy your new lease on life from that nightmare.

I’m going to get a tshirt that says “It’s About My Closet”.

Unfortunately for Gunther and his need for advice, it seems that the silent tension between Luann and Bernice has finally exploded after months of slow growth. Maybe Gunter will meet someone else at Weenies World? Maybe he’ll slowly walk home alone, thinking about his sad evening? I still hope in Luann♡.

Unlikely, but rillywannaseeit; next time we see Bets, she tells Gun she had to make space in her closet. She then asks Gunther to move in with her. I know, unlikely. But I would get a personal satisfaction, after all the #NeverBetser. Besides, it’s funny after Luann’s statement.

Gunther is thinking that a monastic community might be a good option.

This Arc finally illustrated to me, the definition of Luann…Vacuous: “having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless”. Summed her up perfectly.

Welcome! I’ve been following Luann for at least 21 years; maybe longer. I remember Aaron Hill (Luann’s boyfriend) who first appeared in 1985 and he moved to Hawaii; not sure when that happened, but I do remember reading it, so I’m not sure when I started?

Darn, I wanting read Gunther’s explanation of why he’s a Pirate.

Okay, I’m going to go out on an unfamiliar limb and say that Luann is talking about the skeletons in Bets’ closet which is very probably the root of her relationship fears. I know, I never defend Luann, but maybe she’ll say something about shoes and prove my former opinions correct. One can only hope. Bernice on the other hand, is just proving over and over how much she detests Luann. I wish they would just admit their friendship is over. It’s become toxic and sad to watch.

It appears that Luann and Bernice are beginning to behave as real sisters now that they are living together. Frank may be getting his wish for that second daughter.

Gunther can’t win.

My daughter is 23. Spent the last 4 years in the Navy trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. She’s out now and just started college classes. She still doesn’t know what she wants to major in.

What a pathetic way by the authors to milk one more week from this story. These are some of their lamest lines ever since monday.

What if Luann is right and “I need some space” is about her closet? As in “I need some space in my closet for Gunther’s clothes” and Bets comes back to Weenie World saying “Well, Gunther, I found some space. Grab your things, you’re moving in!”

Highly unlikely, but it would be nice to see Luann be a little less bumbling buffoon and a little more stealth genius.

Lots of thoughts crossed my mind as I viewed today’s effort:

1. Bernice’s “high-emotional-intensity escape strategy” is a pretty accurate portrayal of typical psychology descriptors… so Bernice is showing signs that she is working hard to earn her degree. Of this I am glad.

2. While Bernice’s assessment may be spot on…. and of course because she is a Psych Major… the awareness that Bernice currently lacks because of her youth and naivete is that to be a good psychologist, you have to go beyond the simple memorization and regurgitation of psychology content details and move into more thoughtful analysis. A good psychologist will have the degree(s) of knowledge, but also have developed the skills and strategies to use that knowledge to be helpful to the patient. Bernice is not there yet…. but it will come as she grows and matures.

3. Greg is, I think, giving us an option today about Luann. Many are reading Luann today and thinking of her comment as being a reflection of Greg’s sometimes portrayal of her as a “dunce”. I tend to think that Luann’s comment was actually meant to be silly hyperbole by Luann to try to lighten the mood a bit. I think she was saying something that is patently “silly” specifically to be silly and break up the analytical, morose mood.

4. Because Bernice is in her “sequential, analytical” mode at the moment, she takes Luann’s comment at face-value and tells Luann she is wrong, because Bernice is blind to the hyperbole…. and Luann becomes grumpy about that back to Bernice.

5. Luann’s comment “Miss Psych Major is always right.” is a bit of a mean-spirited comment IMO, but Bernice comes back in kind with the “At least I have a major” response. I do tend to think that Luann should at least have somewhat of an idea of her goals from her education by this point, if not an actual major.

6. Gunther is unfortunately just a prop today…..

….. he is right in that he needs to acquire some space at the moment…. Bernice and Luann, while comedically funny…. are not helpful for him at the moment.

Again I wonder why Bern and Lu are even friends.

I agree with other commenters that Luann may have been trying to get Bernice away from the academic mumbo-jumbo. I have been known to employ inane non-sequiturs for just such reasons.

Bernice is right that Luann needs a major. That girl needs some focus.

I wish Greg and Karen would let Luann and Bernice mature some. Bernice seems to be struggling in her major, although she graduated from high school at the top of her class. Luann is becoming as pathetic as she was at age 13.

Not in the closet Lulu. Bets was hanging all over Gunthie at Borenece’s study ball. I think she’s just putting up a defensive wall. She’s likely been burned before. He constant need for fans indicates to me a deep need for validation.

When the people trying to help need the most help themselves.

Gunther’s high, emotional intensity, escape, strategy. Some things never change. I think Les would be more help than these two, right now. Someone, please rescue Gunther!! ;-)

As we all suspected, Lu and Bern are no help at all. I could be going out on a limb here, but I think Gunther will go home to Mama, who will, of course, take his side. Because, well, that’s what mamas do…

What does that mean? It means that Bernice thinks she’s better than you Luann. She makes that clear all the time.

I can’t tell is Luann is just joking in the first panel or is really that clueless. Either way, it’s annoying.

Greg can tread water longer than any peanut gallery can speculate about the destiny of these characters lost in their own maze.

I would like Gunther to swear off relationships for a while! He’s been dropped or friend-zoned for so long by so many females. He’s been used to make other boyfriends jealous. His fashion design talent and tailoring skills have been exploited by Luann, Bets and probably others to little appreciation.

If he started giving the stink-eye to the females in the strip maybe he’d generate a situation where the eligible females would appreciate what they’ve missed.

He’s been described by females as the “kindest, funniest, sweetest guy they’ve ever known” and “100% pure gentleman. Respectful, decent, kind, honorable.” Maybe hey need to see “bad boy” Gunther for a while!
