The purpose of the Universe existing is to make life miserable for a 6 year-old.

Six year olds don’t get embarrassed by running around outside neked. Mom on the other hand is embarrassed by her kid running around for all to see.And today mom would be having a little talk with CPS

Gee, I wonder where the universe gets that attitude?

Calvin is out there in pouring rain and hail, and Mom doesn’t make him come in??

So much for mother love!!

And now she’s got his wet, dirty clothes to wash!!

He’ll be running around in the altogether into his middle age. Guaranteed.

I wonder…were Zemeckis and Roth inspired by this for the scene in Forest Gump where Lt Dan was doing the same thing on the shrimp boat during the hurricane scene? I never read the book so I don’t know if it was also in the book.

He’s right, of course.

But do you know?

The purpose of the universe is to prove that it doesn’t revolve around you.

Calvin, when will you learn that the universe does NOT revolve around you? ;D

You can’t fault the boy for his spirit!

One thing I like about today’s reprint is that Calvin starts out assuming that he is a sentient being and the universe isn’t then starts assuming that the universe is a sentient being like himself and trying to outwit it.

Nature always reclaims her own. Our “triumphs” over nature are, ultimately, very short lived.

Calvin wouldn’t have survived the latest effects of global warming.

I don’t know where Calvin’s knowledge is more deficient: science or religion.

Lesson well learned. Nature doesn’t care. Adapt or die. …maybe just get hurt a little, but still. It’s all on you.

Watterson put more talent and effort into one Sunday strip than a lot of cartoonists put into a year of dailies. …just my opinion

well since Calvin is now around 45 yrs old…

No matter how many tantrums people throw they cannot change the climate.

There were news stories about runners or bicyclists caught in hail storms. Their backs were covered with bruises.

Never try to fight billions of years of precipitation practice.

reminds me of captain dan and forest gump out on the shrimp boat during the hurricane… with dan up on the mast cursing the weather gods…..

Calvin would be surprised that both he and his universe are created (by the artist).

The kid’s got spunk. Lou Grant hated spunk.

Oh, I can sort of relate to this. My dad was stationed in Bitburg Germany. We went to a riverside beach park and mom sent me to the food stand for ice cream. Turn out the park was clothing optional. I saw other kids naked and took my swimming shorts off. I came with the Ice cream, and let’s say Mom had a fit. Dad thought it was funny.

Sums it up for me, especially for 4 months of Nature.

And to think he spent most of last week defying his mother’s efforts to get him to take a bath!

The universe has a sense of irony, and sometimes you get reminded just how sadistic it can be

An abrupt change of mood from Calvin once the hail started. Oops. Guess that’s what can happen when one undresses in public like that …

Hmmm… well, I see some parallels here between Calvin jousting with insentient nature and people who believe mankind can actually affect the atmosphere/weather/climate.
