Today’s a stressful day. Dad’s 97 and I just dropped him off at the hospital for a heart valve procedure.

I’ve seen huge disparity in the numbers. Biggest factor is we really don’t know the actual case numbers. That’s the denominator in all calculations. Like the old Laugh In joke, " We have a partial score 6 ". Then there are the survivor long term impacts. I doubt those have been properly assessed yet. I’ve seen the R factor as being in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Herd immunity kicks in with the first case. You’ll get exponential growth until you get to about 10% infection and then the curve will start to slow down. It will peak at around the 40% mark and then drop. At about 85% the R factor drops below 1 and you have herd immunity and it will die out, however it will linger in the community for a long time. IE years. That’s if no one takes precautions. Wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing all impact the shape of the curve. The biggest part to that is it extends the curve out a long time and gives us a chance to prepare treatments for the sick as well as develop a vaccine. And then there are those irresponsible people who think preventative actions impinge on their right to spread the infection.
