A lot of it doesn’t look like Calvin and Hobbes. It makes you feel like you went to the wrong comic

Always liked this strip.

I really wish Watterson had done a few more of these strips. The contrast between the adult artwork and the childish dialogue is absolutely brilliant.

I believe the Surgeon General has issued a warning about playing with girls. With boys too.

Dr. Calvin has the bedside manner of a vulture.

And when Calvin is a teenager, so will he (assuming Susie doesn’t slap him stupid or just laugh in his face)

I really wish Bill had done more of these, lol. They’re some of the best C&H strips of all time- the realistic art style combined with Clavin’s outlandish statements is perfect contrast. “How about a SHOT, then? Like a shot in the mouth!”

Actually it’s Watterson who has the vivid and crazy imagination, not Calvin!

For those who think Calvin is a dope, notice how he uses the words “psychosomatic” and “lobotomy” correctly?

Calvin’s bedside manner needs a little development. I can’t say much about Ms. Derkin’s bedside manner either. I’ve never been kicked by a doctor.

Bill Watterson’s art is amazing, and with fantastic humor on top of that! Love this strip!

Love these kind of strips! It’s the way the humor comes from the combination of “serious” realistic drawings and the childish dialogue.

More medical prime time soap operas should be like this.

It even takes a dig at how often women’s symptoms are dismissed by doctors.

I agree with Calvin on one point. Girls should come with a Surgeon General’s warning. Not that it would help, as guys wouldn’t pay attention anyway…….

I love this episode. Watterson effectively recreates ‘serious’ strips, while juxtaposing Calvin and Susie being themselves in the same context.

As I recall, there were only two other strips that were drawn in this soap-opera style.

Now Hobbs knows the right way to ‘play doctor’

If only the Dr. Rex Morgan Md strip was so animated…

I remember plaing doctor when I was 6 or 7. We had a lot more fun than these two!

even with a surgeon general’s warning – I don’t think I’d have ever figure out the girl thing cause even after 47 years of marriage, I still haven’t figured out the ‘woman’ thing!

In the years to come, it will be noted that Calvin and Susie played Doctor, and Susie declined the recommended medical procedure.

This might be the best Calvin and Hobbes cartoon ever!

I sometimes wonder if Watterson would occasionally do strips like this just to show us his more artistic side.

There are still “soapy” comics. LuAnn has to be the best example. Also The Meaning of Lila to a degree.

When I first saw this, I’d been watching a lot of “Get Smart” and thought that adult Susie resembled Barbara Feldon with short hair.

I like playing doctor. Guess my specialty.

Though the strip feels different it Ends well with the cheeky smile on Hobbes.

Hobbes obviously has a Tiger in his tank.
