There should be a filter for these sorts of scenarios on any sort of social media platform. Open-minded folk? Head this way. Overly-sensitive self-righteous folk? Head that way.
I wouldn’t want to be with someone who thinks exactly like me. That would be boring! I like being challenged and hearing different opinions and learning things I may not have otherwise known. It’s not healthy to be in a “silo”.
It’s not just in dating. In general I used to enjoy the company of people a lot more. But then people obsessed with their notions of “political correctness,” aggressively trolling for unintended “microinsults,” “microaggressions,” and “micro-oppression,” drained a whole lot of the easy pleasure out of almost any social interaction. Anymore, it’s like trying to walk on eggshells, so it’s quite a bit more pleasant to simply keep to myself.
It used to be that we could ‘agree to disagree’ and end it there. But now, it’s “I disagree, and I can say anything derogatory about you.”To promote your view: victimize yourself therefore you can vilify the opposing view.
It’s super cute that Stephan won’t acknowledge that these days, your political leanings pretty much sketch out your moral code. So where we used to “agree to disagree” on things like tax rates and foreign policy, we now have unbridgeable chasms over whether certain people should have equal rights, or can make their own health care decisions, or even have a right to exist.
a) I didn’t realize this was an option.b) This is a great way to prevent tribal drift of opinions. You have the documentary evidence that someone’s opinions have drifted (e.g. from Reaganism to Trumpism, or from Clintonism to Bidenism) and therefore are grounds for divorce.
This is IT in a nutshell! Better off doing your own thing than to be subjected to an opposite opinion…especially when its dealing with loons, nuts and wack jobs…
Glad I am not in the dating scene. I definitely would not be able to date a conservative Republican who supports Trump and was not Pro Choice. Since I live in Florida I’d have slim pickings
I would think that a questionnaire would make dating easier. Get the unpleasantness out of the way, instead of asking politely probing questions hoping they won’t offend the date. :-D
Actually it makes dating easier cuz you know right away to reject any maga republican cuz every one of them is either insane, immoral, ridiculously gullible or all of the above.
I met my s.o. on a dating site. The questionnaire had political beliefs, which I feel is a good thing. One woman I met previously on that site told me on our first date she lied, she had voted for a candidate I said was a non starter. I excused myself to use the bathroom, instead I paid the check and left.
Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that when I feel the need to add the words “No offense meant,” either as a prelude or an postlude to any remark I’m about to make, it’s an offensive remark that shouldn’t be made. Not a perfect system, I concede, but it is a workable rule of thumb.
It’s not Republicans vs. Democrats, it’s MAGA vs. everyone. And if you’re MAGA, no one else will date you, so it’s better to get that out of the way immediately.

Well, if your “political belief” is “your gay brother should have his marriage dissolved and his kid taken away” that actually may be a deal breaker.
