    Lu → Lutetium; C → Carbon; K → Potassium; Y → Yttrium ; U → Uranium ; S → Sulfur. We had to memorize the periodic table (without the Lanthanide and Actinide series) in order to get our baccalaureate degree. We didn’t need to memorize the transuranics, as they are mostly man-made and we weren’t likely to run across them in our daily work.
