Time to back off, Bernice.

So, is this exciting arc going to end with Luann in a dicy situation and then saved by Bernice? Oh, the tension! Oh, the suspense! And if you’ll excuse me now, I’m going to sleep. Nite all.

Hmmm. I’m kinda on both sides here. Luann had no trouble teasing Bernice about her dreams when she overheard it, but now that Luann is getting inquired herself, she’s getting pretty aggressive while hardly being poked. I know this is more serious than Bernice’s dreams, but I kinda feel like Luann is taking her savior complex over Tara and being aggressive with Bernice since Bernice “got [Tara] kicked out”. Like, Bernice should back off trying to pry given she KNOWS how upsetting it can be for the receiving end, but Luann doesn’t have to get so snippy so quickly. I think the girls just aren’t compatible as roommates; too many strips since Bernice moved in have been about them struggling to communicate and getting frustrated with each other and it seems like there’s more stressing times than good/heartfelt…

So we end the week with a return to the original scene of the crime. Luann continues with her deceptive behavior re Bernice. Bernice is is displaying some frustration with it all. It is interesting that Luann makes a hurtful comment about Bernice acting like an R.A. Bernice reminds Luann they have been and are BFF’s.

This is a dangerous confrontation that could spiral out of control! I wonder if GnK will go there; Luann and Bernice have had their falling outs in the past. Or will they blow it off with each apologizing profusely, blah, blah, blah.

The kernel of the problem is the deception around Tara. Luann is risky-frisky-ing into damager relationships with not only Bernice, but also with her parents and responsible staff at the fuse. And I doubt if Brad and Toni would think much of this gambit.

Normally when you walk into a room you might find the curtains being drawn.

Here we have a chair, table, and lamp clearly drawn in outline upon the pale pea soup green wall.

Ok luann, it’s ok for you to pry into your friend’s lives but they can’t ask about yours?!?

Wake me up when a new arc arrives…

While Bernice is not everyone’s favorite character, some blaming her behavior last week as reason to dislike her more, nevertheless, it’s Luann’s behavior that, to me at least, is the most annoying.

Of course, we know what Bernice doesn’t know.

And, in Bernice’s defense, Luann did indeed not take a dog to the dog park, another plausible indicator (to Bernice) that Luann is lying.

And lying to your best friend is the best way to lose a best friend.

Glad Lu is sticking up for herself. Not glad that it’s because she’s hiding a trespass.

Maybe Tara will prevent a robbery tonight.

Bernice, the kind of “best friend” normal people outgrow before graduating from high school.

“If you knew, you’d have to turn me in or risk charges of aiding and abetting. As your best friend forever, I couldn’t put you in that position.”

So Bern knows someone was in the room, she just thinks it was Jack and not Tara. Luann had a good laugh at Bern’s expense by putting her into a “frothy snit” but now does not like the third degree but what does she expect. Bern is pretty nosy and thinks a guy spent the night with Luann but Luann really needs to tell Bern to mind her own business if she does not want to spill the beans on Tara. Bern may end up getting the last laugh when (not if) Tara gets caught and it is found out that squatting in the Fuse storage room was Luann’s idea. Until then I think BFF will be on rocky status between these 2. Onto the next arc and I guess we will revisit this situation in a few weeks.

Bernice has never been a very good friend. She just sits there and snarks while Lu unloads about everything in her life. A real BFF would be supportive.

In my unprofessional opinion, we ended Tiffany and Ox in the dark mansion too soon and have been in whatever this is, too long.

If ever there was a time for Tiffany to overhear ANY part of this stuff, and start blabbing, then its NOW. ;)

Bern overplayed her BFF hand. And she thinks Luann is after Jack. Intelligent people can be just as wrong as anybody else.

My foreboding has been masterfully realized, something I was wondering might eventually happen; a major rift between two nearly life-long friends. And Tara is the proximate cause! Not surprising though, I always thought there was an underlying “deep stateish” theme that Luann’s fascination with edgy Tara might be a problem in her relationship with snarky, dismissive Bernice. And the whole situation could blow up so huge. Tara, whom I still like and feel sympathy for, is a possible bomb in terms of indelicate outcomes, Luann is toying with excitement and desire to help Tara, and is resentful of Bernice, who is upset she is not kept in the loop, something is kept secret from her. And wait until she finds out about the secret! Hey trolls will have a field day with this arc set, those of us who love this comic will also, so let’s sit back and enjoy it, keeping in mind that in the end hilarity shall ensue

Who says “po’d” anymore these days? Greg is showing his age, thinking ‘pissed off’ is a dirty word, that he has to use the abbreviation which is more appropriate for a family strip. Just write ‘pissed off.’ And Luann? This is plainly stupid and irresponsible. You will learn that the hard way. Bernice knows you’re up to something by your sneaking around. You’re bad at this, so bad Bernice is gonna draw the truth out of you and end it.

THE CONFLICT BEGINS! I can understand that Bernice feels hurt because her BFF doesn’t tell her something that seems important. But Luann has every right to have secrets and privacy! I wonder if this will lead Bernice to discover Tara sleeping at The Fuse (and, i hope not, tell that to everyone) or Luann to realize that now her best friend is Tara, or both. Beautiful use of the acronyms BFF and PO♡.

Isn’t Bernice staying there for free? Methinks she better scale it back..

Seeing as the VP is such a VIP shouldn’t we keep the PC on the QT? ‘Cause if this leaks out to the VC he could wind up MIA and then we’d all get put on KP!

I just worry a little about Tara sleeping in “The Fuse…” The last thing we need at this point is another “KAB-LOUIE…” Bad for everybody… But especially bad for Lu for letting it happen.

Tara has key to Fuse. So they come to work one morning and find out they have been robbed. Could the reason Tara has been in hiding be due to her being wanted by the police.

Is Luann being played as a sucker? Could Bernice have been right about Tara all along?

Never happen. She should heed the saying “When in Rome, do as the Romans”. Not her home, keep her mouth shut.

Time for this friendship to end!

Tara is thankful for just a corner in the storeroom, but Bernice gets a bedroom and thinks she can be judge and jury, too. It’s time for Joann to reassess her connections.

Big ups to Luann for telling Bernice what she needed to hear.

Friends who become roommates do not remain friends.

You know what the bad part is? They just made up like a couple weeks ago and already they’re fighting again. At this point, it makes you wonder if they should continue living together at this point or better yet, keep being friends because this isn’t working out.

With a BFF like Bernice, who needs enemies? This must be a “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” situation/

I am surprised over the number of folks that contend that Bernice’s behavior is somehow to be condemned.

Review the strip on January 25th

1 – Bernice is awakened by Luann’s alarm going off. Given what we know, it was probably set early as subsequent soto voce confirms

2 – Luann says “UGH! Time for you to go already? Seems like we barely slept .”

3 – She continues “Here’s your coat. Go back out the window.”

4 – Then there’s a noise; a “bump.”

5 – Luann says “SHHH! (emphasis in original) “ We don’t want to wake Bernice.”

Bernice knows or rationally suspects that there was someone in Luann’s room that night besides Puddles. The “someone” slept in the room since the alarm woke both. The “someone” came in through the window late, probably after Bernice was asleep and is exiting early the same way, hopefully before Bernice awakens. And Luann is trying to specifically keep the knowledge from Bernice.

Comment #5 makes it personal to Bernice. Luann could have said “We don’t want to wake the whole house.”

Apparently overhearing things through the walls and discussing them the next day is fair game in the DeGroot household given Luann’s teasing in the Jack dream strips.

The current behavior between the two is not beyond the pale for the two BFF’s. Over the years Luann and Bernice have exhibited curiosity, jealousy and even hostility toward one another yet remain BFF’s when all is said and done. In fact, this week’s Luann Againn has Bernice being jealous of Luann callously snubbing her at school lunches for Aaron Hill. By the end of the week all is well.

Commenters have chided GnK for not giving Luann a major arc of her own. Well, here it is folks. Enjoy the ride.

Lu and Bern seem to have gotten really tired of each other lately.

So…..Drum Roll….Will Luann start going around commando?

Luann wouldn’t be so defensive if she didn’t know she was in the wrong. She is right, though. This isn’t the dorm, and Bernice isn’t the RA. So Bernice needs to back off. And Luann needs to recognize that she’s feeling guilty because what she did was wrong and she knows it. Do I see a falling out between the BFFs? Maybe. Certainly could be. But where will Bernice go? It’s getting close to her storming out, suitcase in hand. Tomorrow is Sunday, so we won’t have any kind of advance on this particular arc until Monday. So, we’ll see.

What if, (what IF, I say!) What if we are all wrong about Tara. What if Tara really is trying to turn over a new leaf. What if Tara, say, Tara catches a burglar trying to break into The Fuse and becomes a hero? What if The Fuse hired her to become their new, on-site, night watchman? Heaven knows, we’ve all been wrong before about stuff. Well, not about Ann Awful. We ALL knew she was a bad egg.

Luann isn’t pouring ant oil on the waters much either. EVERY nuance this week as regards Bern has spread suspicion and jealousy. Then Luann gets PO’d when call on it.

What arrogance she is displaying in giving a set of keys to The Fuse to Tara. In what world would she think the owners (her parents) would think that way proper use of the trust they placed in her?

In Luanniverse I suppose!

Supposedly Bernice lost the RA job because of budget issues. Maybe that was just a cover because the other dorm residents were complaining so much about her being a PITA.

Some things never change.

Two quick points.1. It’s never a good policy to lie to anyone.2. If you know someone is lying to you, it’s never a good idea to call them on it when the timing is poor. Since Bern knows Luann is full of it, Bern should have kept her mouth shut and just wait things out until Luann knows the timing is appropriate.

I’d side with Luann if her private actions weren’t so idiotic. Someone that stupid needs someone monitoring them

They are in “Greg’s” World – in the REAL World Bernice would be seen as being extremely nosy at the age they are at, especially when Luann invited her to live there, she should be thankful and not a nosy body – Luann or anyone else, is not bound to tell there best friend everything in the real world – sometimes someone else asks you to keep something to yourself and you do , but we are living in Greg’s world here, so never know what is going to happen

“Tarnice” has a nice—never mind.

What Luann is doing for Tara is completely stupid, even if it’s coming from a good place. What Bernice is doing is completely offensive. And it’s coming from a controlling, obnoxious bad place. BFFs don’t put a glass to the door to listen in on things they aren’t privy to. BFFs don’t play Grand Inquisitor. It would be a twist if Tara DOESN’T do anything criminal and doesn’t get caught, because we are all expecting the worst.

Keep it up, Bernie. You won’t be BFFs much longer. —If Luann has enough smarts to dump you, finally….

Sunday: Brad and Shannon learn a lesson !

A couple of thoughts: 1. Bernice has no right, as a “friend”, to interrogate Luann about anything. And that would be true even if she were paying rent. 2. Luann’s saying “PO’d” instead of the full words is helping the joke Greg is making, of initials being used. 3. It’s obvious to me that Bernice is in “interrogation mode” even before she says a word – look at her standing with her arms crossed looking like she’s ready for a fight.4. Letting someone think something incorrect is not a “lie.” Bern dreamed up the Jack theory herself, so it’s on her if she suffers from it. Even telling a lie, as long as it’s not harmful to anyone, if it’s about something that’s nobody else’s business, is okay.

For me, no one in this story has done anything as bad as Luanns incredibly stupid, inconsiderate, selfish, irresponsible, self absorbed and rude actions. Bernice knows something is really wrong. Puddles knows Luann went to the dog park without him (the shoe smells tell them everything). No one has done anything that is worse than giving someone the keys to your parents business. I hope she gets caught.

I’ve known people who used to be Bernice’s. They will live to be 90 years old +, and will never gain 2 pounds.
