Both my parents had their perfectly good teeth pulled around 1955. After reading the comments on the above FBOFW strip I asked my friend Google a few questions and actually learned something. Back in the 90s my wife decided to get braces and fix her teeth, she is now 73 and still has all of her own teeth

I read that women in Scotland even unto the latter years of the 20th century had all of their teeth extracted before they were married as a wedding present to the husband, so the new family wouldn’t be saddled with dental bills. Because, as you say, the Brits had/have really poor dental hygiene

I remember that back in the ’50s, adults were having all of their teeth, good or bad pulled out and replaced with false teeth. I recently looked into it and discovered that the practice was due to overall poor dental health and few options other than false teeth. People thought that removing all of their teeth in their 20s and 30s, while expensive, was cheaper than dealing with dental problems over a lifetime. The practice declined during the latter part of the 20th century as the profession of Dentistry improved along with better dental self care to the point that today the majority of people born in the ’40s and ’50s still have their own teeth[Fluoride, which was added to city water plants around the US in the 1950s, despite protests by far right fringe groups like the John Birch Society, has in general improved dental health for generations. However trumps selection of RFK jr(with his anti Vax and anti fluoride conspiracies) to head HHS is bringing all of the nuts out of the woodwork and of course the corporate MSM is willingly jumping on the anti fluoride bandwagon

By 1974 the 2 rules that have governed the GOP to this day had been established. #1-Greed is good and #2-I got mine, f*ck you

On the opposite end, way back when I was 18 and came home on my first leave[we got a 2 week break in the middle of te]ch school]which was over Thanksgiving that year and at the big family Thanksgiving Dinner I will, unfortunately, never forget saying “Pass the f*ckin’ butter”

We are screwed as long as D members of Congress continue to believe that Congress old norm of placing Country above Party still exists. And bring butter knives to the open war that the party of trump is fighting against Democrats

  8. 2 days ago on Prickly City

true, but I don’t think anyone thought Biden would pardon his son. What would be nice is if Biden would do what @dotbup suggests. Maybe he could start by pardoning the Jan 6 committee members, then pardon everyone that trump wants to convict
