So many people predicted this yesterday but it still doesn’t make any sense. Why text Luann, say he’s bring a gift and not mention it wasn’t for her?

Nice and simple? Naw. Goldfish really do not do well in chlorinated tap water. They also need oxygenated water. Bernice better get cracking if she wants that fish to survive. But then again, this is a comic strip.

I think when bern mentioned wanting a goldfish at the dog park, she was being salty and snarky. But she’s over the moon because she thinks jack’s being sweet for the gesture. Luann is being jealous and wants a bigger gift. Smooth luann, real smooth.

Oh, thank goodness. It’s not a dog, it’s a fish in a Chinese food take-out container. Yum! If he’d only brought some sweet and sour pork from the restaurant as well, everyone would be happy.

Luann looks a little surprised, but not upset or jealous. There’s no reason, yet, to make this out a jealousy thing.

Luann is totally invisible now!!

A clever follow up to this emerging triangle. Bern gets a thought-that-counts gift and Luann gets to be witty.

Great. A car that will need a new battery in 10-12 years that currently run around $40,000. Used Teslas may not be a bargain because of this.

Luann is adorable here. She is being funny by going way over the top. Remember, the scene at the dog park was viewed through Bernices eyes. Luann did not experience that day in the same Way. She was caught up in Puddles, while her “friends” were judging her.

The gold fish was a cute gift for Bernice. But, on the practical side Jack should have come with a fishbowl and fish food. Luann doesn’t seem too jealous in today’s strip. I still think she has feeling for Gunther. Luann better decide before Rosa comes back.

That poor fish already looks shaky. Hope it survives Bernice!

That was rude of Jack. He text Luann and said he was bringing a special gift. He should have said he was bringing a gift for Bernice. Kind of a jerk.

So I guess the fight for Jack begins

Glad it wasn’t a puppy, but as was said, a living thing doesn’t make a good gift unless Bernice is ready and able to commit to taking care of it. Like others pointed out, she’s going to have to go out now and buy all the equipment needed to keep it alive, which is going to cost a lot more than the fifty cents or so Jack probably paid for the fish.

I like Jack.

So….is this strip today alluding to a budding romance between Jack and Bernice? And will Luann be resentful? Stay tuned.

A Tesla what? I have a small kit Tesla coil that cost under $10. I also have a Tesla turbine that I made. She needs to be more specific.

Awwww. This is so sweet ♡ Bravo Jack! And Bernice will have no problem taking care of a goldfish in her room without annoying the hosts. Now she needs an aquarium. Bernice looks so happy ♡♡♡. Luann, not so much… is it more surprise or envy?

You want a little “irony” with your morning corn flakes? Well, Jack is the second guy in two years that Luann as literally “given away,” to some other gal. First it was Gunther now Jack. As you might recall with Gunther, Luann “accidently” uploaded Gun’s profile (Over his Objections) to “Date-Pics” where Gun ended up getting hooked up with Bets. Bernice was happy staying in her “loaned room” studying. But Oh No! Luann HAD to drag her to the dog park where Bern met, and spent “quality time” with Jack. That’s sort of an annoying re-occurring theme in the VAST Luanniverse: One character taking another character they have feelings for, and exposing them (Gift Wrapped) to potential “competition.” And THAT all started back in 2017 when Gunther bone-headedly took Tiffany to dinner that night and re-exposed her to Les.

But don’t feel sorry for Luann because she’s about to “lose” Jack. Feel sorry for Luann when it dawns on her that EVERYBODY around her has moved on while she’s still standing still. Time to try new things and make some new friends, OWN YOUR OWN. Next time, DON’T give those friends, new or old, away to someone else.

And for GAW’S sake, start taking your phone off speaker!!! ;)

So now Jack and Bernice can further bond at the pet shop as they pick up supplies. Y’know I’m impressed that such an attractive guy (well, Tiff and I think so!) isn’t passing an averagely pretty, not traditionally gorgeous, girl by. Jack is solid and I’d be proud to be his girlfriend…okay, mother…fine then, grandmother.

Weird how a stock split makes no difference in a company’s value, but Tesla went up 12.57% yesterday after their 5 for 1 split.

I think someone is a little jealous

Jack and Bernice are CUTE as a couple! I hope this keeps going. Luann needs to leave the room and let them spend time together but we all know that’s not going to happen.

Well there is a gag at the third panel with the silly wish that Jack could give Luann a Tesla. I mean since is being so kind and gift giving, but to Bernice, not to her. Jack is a nice guy, he gave Bernice something she mentioned she wanted in a pet, a new friend, a goldfish. The question is between Jack and Bernice, and Luann in a tangential sense is, is a goldfish just a goldfish, or is it something else? There are so many possible paths this could go I am withholding any prediction until I see more. I did at least think Jack was bringing the “gift” to Bernice even though he texted Luann’s phone. I think one has to assume that he had Luann’s text address but not Bernice’s.

I have a very difficult time believing Luann actually knows what a Telsa is. When has she ever shown a hint of interst in cars let alone a brand?

I like Luann’s attempt at witty banter. I’d have made the same type of comment if one friend bought another friend a gift based on an offhand comment. As for the gift itself. Jack should have at least bought a tank (Preferably 10 gallons or more) and some food. That fish won’t last long in that bag and now Bernice has to rush to the store.

Luann feels uncomfortable and ignored. So she’s making a little joke to try to redirect Jackson attention to her. Meanwhile, Bernice seems thrilled with her gift!

Bug off, Luann. Your chance has passed. Now, the fishy thing is for Smilin’ Bernie. Jack and Bernie?

One commenter was right on the money yesterday in predicting a pet goldfish for Bernice. . .

WELL! I for one, am gobsmacked by this turn of events. On a number of levels.

First. I’ll admit the goldfish that some predicted was not on my radar. The set up was a dog person (Jack and Max) volunteering at a rescue mission ( dogs and cats) asking Bernice about her pets in a dog park. DUH!

Second. Jack’s character has taken on more shades than a chameleon. At one point most commenters thought he was losing his brash impulsiveness and being groomed as a boyfriend then a BFF for Luann. He was Tried and True, sensible Jack at the Monster Truck event and subsequent rescue. Luann groomed him at the dog park from a physical labor future with his dad to a sensitive guy with a veterinarian tech future and serious student in Chem class and Lab. Then Jack distanced himself from Luann somewhat by presenting himself as a multi-dating player and easily getting a girl’s phone number at the dog park. When Luann took Jack’s advice and started phone dating (Doug), Jack reverted to the bumbling somewhat insensitive lout. In the current dog park series he seems to be taken with Bernice. From what we’ve seen of Jack, Bernice doesn’t fit his dating mold. He snubbed her for Luann in the double date bowling episode. *And** he hasn’t been presented as being as overtly snide as he has been here.I wish GnK would make up their collective mind.

Third. Bernice seems open to some kind of relationship with Jack so far. She is in a vulnerable place with so much changing her personal life. (Losing her job and possibly her dorm room. Losing her own bedroom. Living with a new family environment.) She abandoned her studies for a conversation with Jack at the dog park during which they shared a mutual opinion of our fading starlet, Luann. There was some compatibility through their snide-ish remarks.

She does seem to be pleasantly taken by Jacks gift and there is an undercurrent of being pleased at being the object of the gift over Luann.

Do you suppose Greg came up with this idea after watching CJ getting her goldfish on “The West Wing”? Does Bernice like crackers?

Luann seems surprised that her geeky friend is getting more attention than herself, and sounds desperate to get the attention back on her.

This is going to be interesting. Keep in mind that Luann has not pined over anyone for some time in this strip. Most women like to be doted on, but this can show Luann’s growth as a woman. If she views Jack as a friend along with Bernice, she would want the best for both of them. It seems to me the two personalities work well together. I’m going to call a bit of tension with Luann as she grapples with the lack of a man in her life, but she does not seem to need one at the moment.

A poetic pause. Two plain Janes sitting on the floor. And then came Jack, standing at the door. Bernice got a fish, but since she was so drab, Luann ended up with hermit crab. Thank you.

Now, will Jack invite Bernice to the pet store to buy a bowl and food for the fish? Will Luann expect to go with them? Will she be kindly turned away from Jack and Bernice’s “date”?

I’d like twenty trillion dollars.i could pay off most of the national debt and still have money left for chewing gum. (In case I decided to chew gum.)

It would be fun if David Dobrik would make a “guest appearance” and Luann and David would giveaway a TELSA to a fan. They could have so much fun together.

At first when Bernice saw the box, she thought, “Hmm, Chinese food, I am so hungry.”

To Sum It All Up:

1 A: Lu was surprised and jealous and made snide comment when gift given to Bern B: Lu was surprised and made a funny comment when gift given to Bern

2: Gift was a fish not a dog or other.

4 A: Lu lost Jack to Bern. B: Lu doesn’t want Jack anyway

5 A: Lu expects Jack to get her a Tesla B: No she doesn’t

Awww, this is so sweet! And Luann, initially a little taken aback that the gift wasn’t for her, quickly rebounded with a cute quip. Now, to get the aquarium, rocks, fish food, etc… Maybe a nice jaunt to the pet store with Jack…

Wow, some people are being a little hard on Luann here. It’s not like she’s literally asking Jack to buy her a car; it’s a very obvious joke, exaggerating for comic effect. If you want to criticize her, then do it for her butting into a conversation she’s not a part of. Self-centered, yes; greedy, no.

Many here think Luann is not interested in Jack as a BF but i think she is. But Luann tip toes around; the time she invited Jack to dinner was a move. But Jack (on arrival) was over come with Puddles’ plight and Luann showed herself distracted and not exactly adept at what she was making in the kitchen. I think the main issue is that Luann waffles and that’s not an appealing trait (to Jack), like the the time she organized a study group at her house and spent a lot of time wondering what happened to Tara while Jack just wanted to study (go over the practice exam) or the time she asked Jack to chaperone her date with Doug; that didn’t become her. When Jack found himself talking to Bern at the dog park, the differences were stark; he enjoyed her to-the-point remarks; they clicked.

So this is how season two of The Umbrella Academy ends…

Love that everyone is so critical of Luann here. What kind of a-hole sends a text to someone that he’s bringing over a special gift then gives it to someone else? Also, he didn’t exactly ask the Degroots if Bernice could have an animal in their house.

Well, I’d like a 1944 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, but they weren’t making any new automobiles that year.

You know, at first I thought Jack was just a dumb jock, but he’s really thoughtful and a good friend (way to prove me wrong)

Bernice just got a “free fish”. Now she has to buy an aquarium, air pump and air stone, aquarium filter, some pretty stones for the bottom, and fish food. Just like a “free kitten” or a “free puppy”. No such thing!

Strike Two for Luann.

First, Bernice makes a big breakfast for the DeGroots and helps in the kitchen while Luann sleeps in. Frank and Nancy show their appreciation to Bernice, and Luann mumbles off on the side.

Then, Bernice has a personal conversation with Jack at the dog park while Luann makes an @ss of herself. Jack shows up with a thoughtful gift for Bernice, and Luann babbles off on the side.

Bernice is acting like a normal adult and getting rewarded for it, while Luann is sinking further into her lazy self-centered marginalized immaturity. Where are the Evanses taking this?

Can she take it for Swims in the local Goldfish Park?

Some express the idea that Jack was rude to Luann.

IMHO Jack is somewhat naïve in male-female relationships. Much as is Gunther, although G-man is more cerebral relationship-wise. I would be surprised if it ever entered Jack’s mind that Luann might have her feelings hurt by this gift.

In fact he is quite liberal with his gifting. Remember the shower of flowers he gave Luann after breaking her foot.

What’s his name? Ben York? Where is he?

Just realized the gag that Luann meant Tetra. Not Tesla.

Gail is a nice name for a goldfish.

Also, Luann’s crack in the third panel shows to me that she is not jealous.

Luann and Jack? I’d have better odds playing lotto, which isn’t such a bad idea these days.

Yikes! a goldfish. I will never, ever again raise goldfish. They really are high maintenance. That one fish will need at least a 10 gallon tank, add another fish, add another 10 gallons. (That is if you want to raise them properly)

People on here salty about LuAnn. She does not look jealous, a little surprised, yes. She does not want nor expect Jack to buy her a Tesla, she was just joking around, geez, as people are want to do.

Bernice will now likely have a crush, micro or otherwise on Jack because he did a nice thing for her. Not many boys pay that kind of attention to her, so it seems normal that she will totally take it out of context.
