Frank.. next time ask some more details about any structure you want your family to reside in. This cabin clearly wasn’t made for a 4 person family.

While not totally run down, the cabin is ridiculously small and not suitable for their needs. I would suggest heading home before the roads get shut down.

    .

So what do we think.. will they stay or head on back?

At least it has a fireplace, so they won’t freeze to death (assuming someone was nice enough to provide firewood). Will they sleep in chairs? Doesn’t look like more than a one-room ‘lodge’, so no bedrooms. And now to find out if there is an interior facility, or whether the outhouse is also ‘close’…

Oh, I love it. Look at that rustic interior and stone fireplace. The secret to being comfortable in those tight surroundings is for each person to secure an “area” for themselves, just to sit and reflect. They’ll get used to it, and will end up having a ball with each other. Think of the memories they’ll have.

Frank will go nuts from the constant complaining, Luann will get weird and start talking with her finger then telepathically summon Bernice to come who will take an axe to to the chest from Frank, thus getting rid of an obnoxious character.

Frank seems really annoyed and he’s right. Probably the person who allowed him to use the cabin is someone who talks a lot about his things and makes them seem huge, or maybe he completely misunderstood… But I think Nancy is right, the decor is tastefully and the cabin is in good condition. Even if space is limited, they could have a great time together. Now it’s time to light the fire in the fireplace.

OK, obviously two small rooms. From the outside it’s square, but the inside view shows rectangular. Unless it is the Tardis, there needs to be a second room. Anyhow, it’s interesting how priviledged people get to be. I’ve been reduced to just a cot in the Navy, have spent many a wonderful hour in just a two man tent, taken long trips and slept in the back of a small truck or station wagon. All of that was an adventure. people used to do this all the time, look at how small tourist cabins used to be. The world is just getting more entitled.

Next thing is, they’ll find out there’s no firewood cut and split for the fireplace, which looks to be the only source of heat for the cab-shack. Plus no saw, no axe, etc. to cut and split the wood. Looks like a cuddle-up family night ahead with little to no sleep. Hope they didn’t eat all their snacks as that will be breakfast in the morning.

Long, narrow one room cabin with no heat in the dead of winter….I think Frank’s need to impress (that he was getting for free) has been squashed. Maybe next time he wants to treat his family to a nice get-away he’ll spend some money and book rooms at a nice resort. We can still hope that this will turn around, that this is just the guardhouse for a beautiful home with a stocked kitchen, snowmobiles, skis and snowshoes for recreation. Maybe horses?

Toni is the lucky one.

A fireplace is a plus as long as there is firewood and squirrels haven’t built a nest in the chimney.Do they have any electricity?Do they have water? Maybe a pump?I’m thinking a place like this probably has an outhouse for a bathroom. If there are a few fold out couches then everyone can sleep somewhere. With the snow coming down like that, they’ll probably be snowed in for a few days.Home is going to feel like quite a luxury after this rough cabin adventure.

Hmmm, maybe one of them should’ve tried looking the place up beforehand. That’s why this setup worked in the old sitcoms it was originally used in, but doesn’t work so well now: back then there really wasn’t any way to research these things. But the Degroots don’t have that excuse. This is an entirely self-inflicted wound and the unfortunate thing is that not a single lesson will be learned from the experience.

Nancy always presents as level-headed. It makes me sad that her character thinks her husband (who presents as a good man with a healthy self-image) might be so shallow as to want to ‘feel privileged’.

I know the writers would not pursue that line of thought (nor would i want them to) because it would not be funny! And i love the way this strip has genuinely made me laugh over the decades. Still, as a husband, i would be mortified if my wife thought i were that desperate for affirmation, instead of trying to treat his family to something special that he himself could not afford. Been THERE.

I know, i know. I’m way over-thinking. Sorry! I do think it will go Hallmark-y, and that will be lovely, i’m sure :)
