See how Gunther reacts to Luann in the last panel. He’s giving her a “what’s with you” look and pulling away from her. And I think he said “Not” specifically because of her childish giggle-giggle behavior.

Oh jeez luann, why is it so hard for you to verbally ask for what you want to know?

We engineers expect people to follow simple instructions and have been known to withhold information from those who don’t.

Just a general comment, that.

In this case the answer wouldn’t be any of Luann’s business no matter how nicely she asked.

I think we all know what the answer is: “Naw.”

If you care more about the love lives of others, it’s no wonder you have none of your own. Or, likely, ever will.

My GAWD, Luann. You haven’t learned A thing. The whole thing ran right through your ears. And you aren’t subtle at all. First, you walked into The Fuse and marched right to Les and asked him within earshot of many people around. Now you’re leaning on Guther. Sheesh. And Gunther? Hope you’re talking to Bets next to cool it with the IG thing.

I liked this one tonight. For G..d’s sake, they’ve been close friends for years & years. I think we’re going to see a kiss & make up the next day or two. And I’m starting to think Gunther isn’t happy with all the publicity Bets has heaped on him, and he may be about to fess up on that. Sorry folks, but both Luann and Gunther had something to learn here.

Gunther needs to leave this arc and find Bets and tell her the salacious relationship is over.

Oh yeah Luann, that kind of expression/behavior is REALLY gonna make people open up and trust you! Especially Gunther whom you’ve already betrayed by sneaking around and prying behind his back. Does she think being all cutesy is going to make Gunth forget what she did? What is she, five?

After everything that’s happened, she’s STILL trying to stick her nose where it doesn’t belong.

Well, Quill did tell Luann that she needed to go out and get a life. And Gunther did exactly that.

This week has demonstrated how much more honest and mature Gunther is than Luann. I’ve long believed they had the makings of a couple, but right now I think that Luann has way too much growing up to do.

A lesson not learned, and a missed opportunity.

Dang, this is stupid. Luann, he’s still mad at you. Playin’ around like that now acting like a dork is just going to make him even more pissed off. Just tell him, “Gunther, I understand you’re mad at me right now, so how’s about we give each other some space, spend some time apart and let this cool down. Maybe you can forgive me and we can remain friends. I don’t want an answer now. Just something to think about later down the line. Bye for now. And… I’m sorry.”

The naivete in this forum so far, and I am not being superior but hasn’t anybody one realized that Luann is trying to take a smiley selfie, which Gunther is refusing? I think it is clear why: she wants to send a message to Bets, and Bets was clearly sending a message with all those disturbing—to Luann—texts of her and Gunther, that Gunther is hers, not anyone in his crew of friends. don’t you all remember when Bets first met. Bets was quite suspicious of Luann when she saw Luann’s reaction during that first encounter. And possessive. Now several arcs away in Luannverse time, Luann starts asking questions of her friends (who I believe were plot devices), including about whether “they” were doing “it.” I am not quite sure this is jealousy, I still think it’s envy. Bets has something with “dweeb” Gunther she does not, a full-on love life. The selfie does it for me, se the sheepish smile, the two of them standing together as nice friends? That was a message, but Gumther was having none of it. He might not totally understand it beyond his irritation over Luann’s prying, but I guarantee it she does, and Bets would if that selfie made it to social media. LUANN I did not know you had it in you,

There may be an answer hidden in this day’s panels. Perhaps the “NOT” means that he is telling her that he and Bets have “NOT”.

I think this actually may also answer our continuing question about their relationship: Gunny, while not always the most comfortable about it, is okay with Bets sharing their adventures online.

Those unspoken words speak volumes, Luann! :D

I’ve got a feeling when Bets finds out about all this, Luann’s going to get her attitude adjusted!

That guy is definitely not having sex on a regular basis. If he was he would be much happier, relaxed and cooler. This is how people act when they haven’t had sex, but need to. I wish I didn’t know this.

This is Stereotypical role reversal. Usually it’s the guys male buddies asking if, where, and, how he “got any.” And, the gal’s female friends would be getting the details, dressed up romantically, from her.Of course Gunther is too much of a gentleman to discuss such things, especially with how he’s so PO at Luann.

Y’all are doing WAY too much projecting here. Who knew a comic strip would be so cathartic? Admit it now. You wanted to know just as badly as Luann!

Gunther has matured but he still is not aggressive. On Gunthers first date with Bets she led the way and Gunther loved it. But, I am not sure he was comfortable with the selfiesBets took.On the other hand we know that Luann was not thrilled to see Bets with Gunther and if she gets another chance to be on the bed with Gunther we will see a more aggressive Luann

“Not” could be construed as a double entendre in this situation.

That was resolved quickly and well – another sign of the characters’ growth and maturity. I’m glad it didn’t become a two-week issue we readers had to suffer through.

Is that “not” referring back to the first panel (… if you should know or not) or is he saying they’re not doing it?

Allow me to translate in simple words that you can understand, Luann: Mind. Your. Own. BUSINESS!

So let’s review the bidding, as it were. This episode started with cosplay videos and fan pics with some continued concern shown by “Gun.” It shifted into said vids causing Luann to voice he curiosity re “Gun’s” love life. It morphed into a clandestine spy movie/rumor mill. Shifted to Irma dropping back into (or never leaving) helicopter mom mode. Then this “confrontation.”

Luann pleads guilty and throw herself on the mercy of the “Gun” court who immediately gives her permission to directly ask about his love life. Luann drops into seventh grade cutesy mode with associated eye batting, etc.

After all the rigmarole what’s the theme? Are we supposed to take some story progression away from all this. What’s the payoff? We have two days left in this sequence. Will they continue with Luann, Tiffany, or Bets?

Bottom line… this arc is wearing thin.

Need to import Broom Hilda to sweep out this messy place.

UGH! She has no propriety. Either she wants to live vicariously through gunther, or she just wants something to flap her lips about. Likely Both!!! shes almost as bad as Tiff in that reguard.

Luann is always nosy. I know, she should limit herself and probably now she has learn that she has to ask directly. But this is so hilarious! She makes such funny and adorable expressions ♡. I’m happy that Gunther has made things clear with her. Will he go talk to Tiffany now?

Let me make my point on the selfie again. She has her arm extended with the phone not in frame, She moves close to him with that mixed motive smile (to me anyway), he clearly draws back. Looking where boopsies? Up toward the phone camera, which he clearly does not want to do. I think there are all kinds of motives here, but one thing is NOT answered with his saying NOT. His NOT has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Luann’s question about it they did “it.” I think they do/did but that is just something we can wonder. All the other stuff we think about project you can go back to but clearly that is a selfie pose, and let me remind you SOCIAL MEDIA, and Bets is not envious like Luann, she be jealous. So….

Luann is trying to be cute/funny/silly by saying, “So…..”, meaning “Are you having sex?” and he is telling her “Not” as in “That’s none of your business.”

Why is she so concerned about who Gunter is smashing?

Luann is lending Gunther an ear in a nosy sort of way. She wants an answer to her question are you and Betts hitting home. He responded, “No”.

Back to the 3rd grade: Did you see Bets underpants?

I love Luann’s character, really I do. She’s smart, and funny, and she can be very caring and resourceful. That being said, she has some major character flaws and nowhere is that more painfully spotlighted than in the past 3 weeks. She had a severe bout of immaturity, walking around and asking question no college student really cares about, and she NEVER LEARNS. When Gun confronts her she acts sorry at first, then tries to excuse her behavior, THEN tries to blame BETS as if she had no choice but to watch the live-stream and stare at pics for hours. And now she “apologizes” and tries to get the info anyway. Girl, you had numerous chances, Gun is not your little toy anymore, stop before you ruin your friendship completely.

Luann’s apology IS sincere. She says she should not have pried and that she is sorry. I’m not sure what some people think a sincere apology would be beyond what she said. Some people read other things into something and don’t read what is actually written. Luann has sincerely apologized to Gunther.

Luann is soooooooo annoying today.

I hope we don’t see her again for a loooooooong time.

And Gunther did say “if you want to know something ask and I’LL decide whether or not to give you that information…”. So Luann did just what Gunther said – SHE ASKED.

I almost hope luann1212 is right about the selfie. I don’t agree with that interpretation, but for the sake of argument……

Luann takes a selfie of her and Gunth and posts it online. Bets sees it and wants an explanation from Gunth. He fills her in all about the nosy Luann prying, rumors, gossip mill thing.

Bets gets a candid photo of Lu and posts it on her Instachat (or whatever) feed, with the tags: “Gun’s jealous ex. She can’t stand that Gun dumped her for me. She’s sneaking around prying into Gun’s and my business, starting nasty rumors and gossip. Really sad to be so desperate and not have your own life.”

Let Luann deal with THAT!

Harrumph.

Luann’s apology is extremely minimalistic and her further actions today lead me to believe that she is truthfully not sorry. In my manner of thinking, a person’s apology needs to feel sincere and given with a mindset of care for the other person. I do not see/read that in Luann today, and it is a bit disappointing.

In the greater scheme of things, however, what we see today is that Luann still is extremely curious about the copulatory beahavior’s that may or may not be occurring between Bets and Gunther. I think Gunther’s response here is legitimate and appropriate given that her tiny attempt at an apology is followed immediately by her still trying to pry out the information. I can understand her remaining interest… but again, her actions are to me, rather dismissive of Gunther…. which seems to be a major component of Luann’s perception of Gunther since college.

Even though I do not really like Luann’s approach…. I think Greg has done a good job here of showing a realistic portrayal of this kind of relationship…. I am meaning especially today…. I can easily see Luann continuing to try to weasel out the information she wants because she does not feel she has really done anything all that impolite.

You’re a mensch, Gunther. That sort of information is community property.

I admit being curious about who was and who wasn’t at that age. Most everybody I knew was. There were competitions to see who could “do it” the most (guys AND girls). I was never in the running. Doesn’t seem very smart in hindsight. All that being said, I wouldn’t ask my female friends about whether they were or not. Now if they volunteered the info, I wouldn’t put my fingers in my ears.

By the way, young’uns do tend to share that type information with their closest and bestest. Heck, these days some post it on social media.

Looks like it’s safe to say that Luann has learned next to nothing from this whole experience.

I’ve been looking at the last panel for signs a selfie might be taking place. I don’t think that’s what’s happening. Looks instead like Luann has coyly placed one hand over her ear cupping it as if to hint to Gunther that she is all ears waiting for an answer!

Inquiring minds just want to know. Clearly, nothing from their interactions (over the week) has sunk in; Luann seems to feel she is entitled to know anything and everything about Gunther; she doesn’t see the boundary line.

Lu, it still would be in your best future interest to unfollow and unfriend the Bets and Gunther show. I wonder how either Tiffany or Bets would have acted if Gunther yelled at them the way he yelled at Luann. Luann didn’t yell back, didn’t play the victim and didn’t argue.

Well, an apology and a discussion about boundaries. All done at the literal boundary of the door. It’s no longer “prying” because they’re friends talking directly to one another. She has been given permission to ask him directly and he now has the option now of declining to share, which he has taken. Drama over. I’m a little surprised she hasn’t asked how he feels about the sudden attention. It’s a reasonable question when a friend seems to be acting so far out of character. Of course, he could decline discussing that as well. Maybe we’ll see tomorrow or Saturday if this is over or still leading to that topic.

Perhaps this is the beginning of Gunther growing out of his friendship with Luann. Probably they haven’t talked in while and won’t likely (going forward) since this is all Luann wants to know.

Yes I peeked too l2l, and my selfie observation makes all kinds of sense. I won’t go in detail, and whether this part of the arc goes past Saturday, this story is long from being over. I won’t spill the beans, but I sure plan to take my credit tomorrow.
