It was Erik Thorvaldsson “The Red” who named Greenland (actually Grœnland) in 982 or thereabouts, and while it may have been a marketing ploy, it may also have been a reasonably accurate description of the place he made landfall at that time. Certainly he stayed there among the settlers he had moved there until his death about twenty years later, rather than moving on to (ahem) greener pastures. But about eighty years after he died, the average temperature had dropped about 7 degrees F.
What science? As CBS News notes, “The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe wrote in 2019 that there was no scientific or statistical evidence to suggest breed-specific bans reduce either the frequency or severity of injuries to people.”
