I love how Calvin’s whine continues between panels. You don’t see that very often.

Actually, him passed out on the floor might be best for baby and sitter.

To say that Cal’s reaction is a ‘little’ extreme is to say the sun is a light.

If he does pass out, he’ll be easier to bathe. (Ha, just noticed what “he’ll” turns into w / o the apostrophe. Very fitting for Calvin)

Suzie would make the best baby sitter, Calvin would be in his room strategizing for hours and avoid Suzie.

One of my nieces was like that as a toddler. Whenever she was around, I was in my car studying.

That may work for Mom, Calvin. But for Rosalyn, forget it.

Rosalyn never engages with Calvin. When she finally looks up from her homework and gets off the phone, there stands Calvin, craving some attention, fun and games. Once he’s tuckered out, then she can get back to her other things.

But Calvin’s real future is as an abalone diver

Would you be quiet woman and let Calvin pass out on the floor.

Even better, send Calvin to boarding school in Nigeria. If the crazies should kidnap Calvin, they will quickly repent their ways and turn to a more peaceful means of support such as weaving baskets.

Let him pass out. It really won’t hurt him and then he’ll be quiet.

Rosalyn will have a better night if Calvin is passed out on the floor.

I guess the test of the Emergency Broadcast System from yesterday is not exactly working right?

He must think he’s Joseph of Arimathea, telling us which castle the Holy Grail is located, just before he died.

Mom should hope that Calvin passes out from a prolonged scream and is unconscious for the entire evening.

back in the days of my youth when the dinosaurs roamed I babysat for a monster-much worse than Calvin. The going rate back then was .50 cents an hour. I got $5.00!

Oh boy! This is gonna be great!

Like all little kids, it’s the only weapon he has that he can use.

I wonder if, after all these years, it is possible that Mom and Dad have ever been able to have a cogent dating moment together? Are they in jail for the misfit deeds of their child? Is Hobb’s really a safe bet to leave with a nice innocent little child like Calvin? These and so many more questions plague me.

Let him pass out, he’d be quiet for Rosalyn that way.

… as I said before, when I was reading this strip in younger days, I thought it was funny, but now I see it as a very dark commentary about an only and lonely child: his parents are never shown giving him hugs or being playful with him.

Today’s strip, is especially alarming, when to the parents going out is more important than finding out from Cal why he hates that baby sitter so much…

The other thing I noticed, as I’m reading it nowadays, is that the parents are assuming that Cal is always lying and want him to stop his nonsense, and they never just go along with his stories just for fun.

Of course, Calvin probably can’t hear his mom over that overly long scream!

Where’s the fire?

Well, if he passes out, it ‘ll make Roze’s job easier.

Passing out is your body’s way of resuming breathing before it’s too late.

Don’t interfere. It would be a good thing.

Drop a bar of soap in there.

That mouth could hold a pot roast.

That would help Rosalyn out though.

Oh, dear. How about Hobbes? Can’t Hobbes look after Calvin?
