I can’t tell if Lupin is just messing with him or is GENUINELY serious about shutting down the sky. Also Bea for the love of cat get in there and stop your dad. I normally wouldn’t ask that of a kitten but I assume part of her offical factchecker job description is “Stop Elvis. You’ll know when”

Sometimes preparing for a storm will actually prevent the storm, or cause the storm to change in some way. When the remnants of Hurricane Ike were headed this way, the weather guys were predicting torrential rain, so I spent the day before clearing out the gutters. Instead, we got absolutely no rain but tropical storm force sustained winds and hurricane force wind gusts. I’ve I’d gone to the store and stocked up on not perishables that could be eaten without cooking, we would probably have gotten the torrential rain.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Maat-Tilda: So you’ll take part in our fashion show, Elvis?

Elvis-Anum: Of course. Do you have a particular style in mind?

Tillie: Since you and Iggy were both once sefarers, Soph, Adobe, and I were thinking of a nautical theme.

Elvis: That sounds lovely. Maybe highlighting adventure and peril.

Soph: That can be part of it. We were also thinking about how the sea brings us great bounty.

Adobe Style: We plan to have fashions depicting both the coast, and the deep blue sea.

Tillie: And we’re going to use a fabric made from seaweed from the frozen north* and other plants.

Elvis: But we’re far away from the frozen north. How did you manage to obtain this fabric?

    Tillie: Ladies?

The Royal Procurers: We’ll never tell!

*For more information, Google SeaCell. They will tell.

We older types, Elvis, Scaeva, Robin, or myself.., want order in an increasingly chaotic world. Whether it’s kids on our lawn, no bog roll in the dunny, or snow, thinking it can just show up whenever it wants to. We want some peace and quiet, dagnabbit.

I salute you, Elvis! Demand answers; put your paw down. Find out who is in charge of snow and put a stop to it once and for all!

Lupin is on Elvis’ side for once, and Elvis does not appreciate it. Their combined effort could be powerful, and I am eager to see what measures exactly they take to stop snow. Perhaps it will involve the ceiling cats.

    … When troubles call

And you’re sick of it all

There’s a lot to be done

    To stop your downfall

… Once there was an angry bold cat

Thought he’d pen a whole hatin’ rant

People should make those clouds scram

And Lupink’s in on that slam

… ’Cause he had high hopes

    He had high hopes

He had high stop flakes’ fly

    In the sky hopes

So any time you’re feelin’ bad

    ‘Stead of feelin’ sad

    Just remember that rant

… Oops, there goes a loud “shut down the sky” chant

Oops, there goes a “people must stop snow” rant

Oops, there goes a wish they hope Cat will grant now

    - Sammy Cahn – High Hopes

I’m in trouble. Big, big trouble. Marie sent me this email a few minutes ago:

“…you locked your poor Holmes in the closet this morning! He is very upset with you. The fact that he went in the closet himself and thus was locked in is not the point! The point is that you locked him in, and now he’s traumatized. When I went up to get dressed, he was sitting on the food bin, meowing sadly. He’s now out and telling the other cats about his “adventure/mistreatment.”"

Ignoring the issue of how a consulting cat detective can get himself locked in a closet, the real problem is, do I dare go home? I think Hamilton shoved him into the closet as the door was closing, and I am sure I am not to blame here. However, they say a good defense is a good offense. Therefore, I need a cat attorney to plead my case. Does anyone know a good cat Barrister that works for kibble or tuna vouchers? Please send all referrals.

In the meantime, I will be on the lam somewhere in the wilds of Australia. If they find me there, New Zealand is another option. I will resurface occasionally and send you all a coded message. They are calling my flight, ave.

Sadly, people are doing way too much to stop the snow. And it seems to be working, at least around here. We’ve only gotten a total of about 8” so far this season and way above normal temperatures (except for two days last week, when they were way below normal). Grass has still been green, trees have been budding, and pu$$y willows (I had to use the dollar signs because GoComics flagged the proper word) have been out since early January.

we use trucks with scoops on them, we deliver saltiness to the streets to punish the snow for it’s evil desire to make us slip, we shovel it out of the way when it’s trying to block us from getting into or out of our homes.. other than getting a contract with the sun, there’s not a whole lot we can do from here.

Elvis really needs to contact Dr. Scuttles about this. I am sure they could work together on this.

I know Dr. Scuttles is not a fan of BCN, but this may be something they could work on together, professionally that is.

SHUT UP, ELVIS!!! We need snow, it has quite a few uses. For one, it can raise the water table so we are less likely to suffer a drought in the spring and summer.

For another, WARMTH. Everyone complains about snow being cold. But snow is also an insulator that helps trap heat in. I remember building a snow fort as a teen and having a cave in it where it was five to ten degrees warmer in the snow cave than it was on top of the snow out in the open. Not to mention snow buid up against a building helps to lower heating bills as it’s yet another layer of insulation against the cold.

Snow drives ticks and termites deep into leaves or fallen tree trunks when it is deep. Learned that from an exterminator years ago at a DI competition we were both appraisers at. He was talkiiiing about how bad the tick and termite season was going to be because we hadn’t had a decent snow fall that winter. Someone asked him what snow had to do with it and he explained that when the snow is deep and stays on the ground for a long time the ticks bury themselves deep in the leaves of the forest and termites go deep into stumps. They don’t come out very early either.
