By Georgia Dunn | 7.6K FollowersAbout Breaking Cat News
Join our crack team of feline reporters as they bring you the news that matters—cat news! They ask the hard-hitting questions about empty food bowls, house plants, box forts, vacuum cleaners, birds, bacon, and more!
"Breaking Cat News" is a webcomic drawn and written by illustrator Georgia Dunn, based on her real cats Elvis, Puck, and Lupin. It came about one night when she tweeted a few jokes about her cat Lupin playing a newscaster. Friends thought it was funny, and she decided to draw it. When she posted it, the response was so great that she drew a few more strips. She quickly gained a large and devoted following and started a website for the strip in early 2014. It was picked up for online distribution by GoComics later that year.
Her first book of “Breaking Cat News” strips was published in 2016 by Andrews McMeel Publishing to overwhelmingly positive reviews, holding the top sales spot on Amazon for pet humor and cat humor during its first week. Her most recent book "Good as Goldie: A Breaking Cat News Adventure" is available now. Are you a "Breaking Cat News" super fan? Meet Georgia Dunn
Georgia Dunn is an illustrator who works in watercolor, with pieces appearing in educational magazines and independent publications.
She was born and raised in Rhode Island, by the sea, in the forest. It was a very lovely way to grow up and greatly influenced her art. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and has been illustrating since then, with most of her success starting in 2010 when she left her day job at a bank to focus on illustrating full time.
Georgia lives in Washington with her two children and five cats.
Cast of Characters

Admiral Crackers
A bird of many repeated words.

Admiral Whiskers
A ghostly reporter heading the anchor desk of the RKO spirit broadcast; the otherworldly news station sometimes heard from the attic of the Big Pink House.

Agatha, the Golden Mouse
The fabled legendary folk hero of the mice. Agatha still watches over her descendants and the inhabitants of the present day Big Pink House. Once a hero, always a hero.

Agnes
Formerly a member of the Robber Mouse Gang, Agnes found her calling as a mouse correspondent. The RMG does whatever they can to help their girl’s reporting dreams come true. Sister to Alice.

Alice
Leader of the Robber Mouse Gang. Tough, hearty, funny, and occasionally a little defensive. Sister to Agnes.

Angus
One of the ghostly reporters of the RKO spirit broadcast in the attic. An eternal worrier on both sides of the veil, Angus has the distinction of being the last cat who lived with Winifred Quinn. He was adopted by a Young Dr. Man after her passing.

Baba Mouse
A wizened old crone with great taste in music. She’s the scariest barn cat in the world (it’s true, kid), with a heart of gold.

Baby Dustbuster
Child of the Vacuum Cleaner.

Beatrix
The intrepid polydactyl intern of the CN News broadcast. Precocious, capable, and usually on top of things.

Burt
CN’s news’ tech and A/V cat. Burt runs the station’s live feeds and computer system, piecing footage together from a growing series of cameras he controls from the barn of Quinn Farms. The scrolling red news chyrons in the broadcast are written live by Burt.

Burt’s Woman
Runs the modern day Quinn Farms, taking care of llamas, chickens, and other animals.

Buzzy Mouse
Puck’s best friend, confidant, and muse. More than just a cat toy who runs in circles when you pull their string, Buzzy Mouse is family.

Carl
The ghostly news photographer from the RKO spirit broadcast in the attic. Carl, Admiral Whiskers, and Lady Jane were contemporaries, who lived with Winifred Quinn in the Big Pink House.

Chitter and Chatter
Queen Magnet’s spies. They heard what you said, and they’re going to tell Old Mag.

Clover
The previous guinea pig scribe. Each generation has one living guinea pig scribe, a deep honor for the piggies. Clover recorded the events when Wicket originally terrorized the fields of the Big Pink House and the trial of the July Bug. He lived with The Man when he was a boy.

Clucky Chicken
Elvis’ beloved Easter-decoration-turned-cat-toy. Elvis dotes on Clucky Chicken, treating Clucky very much the way the Woman treats him.

Dr. Man
Local veterinarian and the present day head of Quinn Animal Shelter. A dear friend of QAS’s founder and the former owner of the Big Pink House, the late Winifred Quinn. Executor of her trust, Dr. Man does his best to continue the work Winifred started to care for cats and has extended that care to other local animals.

Dr. Scuttles
Grumpy and mysterious, Dr. Scuttles is an enormous snapping turtle and local cryptid expert. Rumors still persist of his podcast and its sudden cancellation. (Junk the raccoon was a big fan!)

Drumstick
The oldest of Princess Magazine’s five younger brothers. Drumstick has shown an early talent for tech and A/V work and sometimes shadows Burt the A/V cat, learning how to run the CN news station and tend to the broadcasting equipment.

Elvis
The skeptical, cynical, secret sweetheart news reporter of CN News. Quick to assume the worst, Elvis is just as often delighted to find out how good folks can be, once you get to know them.

Fishbone
The second oldest of Princess Magazine’s five younger brothers. Fishbone tries to help his older siblings Young Mag and Drumstick any way he can, and wants to be included on their adventures.

Glamour Hammer
A stunning and fashionable raccoon lady warrior. Sworn knight and defender of Queen Magnet’s raccoon court. Childhood best friend to Queen Mag’s daughter, the late Princess Magnavox.

Goldie
A local detective and defender of the law. If Goldie’s on the case, rest assured it will be solved. Formerly the neighborhood stray, Goldie held onto her street smarts and ability to read the room.

Great Boot
Ruler of the raccoons during the Raccoons/Opossums war. Queen Magnet’s late father.

Gutter
Queen Magnet’s appraiser. Gutter holds a position of honor in the raccoon court, as an expert in trash and found items.

Homestyle
A mercenary warrior of the Wild Lands, Homestyle is cool, calm, and collected. Which is great, because her best friend Thimblefist can be a little…intense. Homestyle was rescued by the ethereal and legendary local cryptid, the Mailman, when she fell out of a tree as a baby squirrel.

Iggy
Intelligent, thoughtful, and shy; Iggy is a sweet little guy who loves to organize everything from pom-poms and socks to codes and puzzles.

Junk
One of Queen Magnets sworn knights, along with Glamour Hammer. Junk is an easy going guy who loves cryptids and conspiracy theories, but watch out if cornered!

Lady Jane
One of the ghostly reporters of the RKO spirit broadcast in the attic. In life, Lady Jane was adopted by the late Winifred Quinn after her owner, the mayor, passed away.

Louie
A friendly local skunk. Hey! He gets startled!

Lupin
The head anchor cat at the CN news desk. Reluctant to be stuck at the desk, Lupin manages to escape any chance he gets, preferring to be live on the scene. The wildcard of the crew, Lupin hates to miss the action and isn’t above creating his own on a slow news day.

Mona
A mole warrior turned mole politician when the need arose.

Montague
The embittered and embattled leader of the mole society.

Mutter and Murmur
oPericles’ moth scouts.

Natasha
The muscle of the Robber Mice Gang! Natasha is brave to the point of nearly being fearless, but just clever enough to stay on the right side of safety. Claiming to be “the mightiest prey,” Natasha has no trouble reminding predators that sometimes courageous things come in small packages. Loves to party.

oPericles
The wise and warm-hearted leader of the opossums’ opeaceful society of opoets and ophilosophers.

oPersephone
oPrometheus’s bride.

Opollo
Former leader of the opossums during The Great War. Father of oPericles, the current reigning leader.

oPrometheus
oPericle’s kind, gentle, and anxious grandson. Heir to the opossum kingdom.

Ora Zella
Take the sweetest kitten in the world, give her unlimited reserves of chaos, and–please–keep her away from the matches. Ora Zella is all optimism and no brakes, virtually indestructible, and quick to protect her best friend, Iggy.

Our IX Lives Angora
The beautiful, compassionate, stylish daughter of fish oil tycoon Snowball Taggart. Sister to Princess. One true love of Kit Chase.

Our IX Lives Bandit
A former magician, Bandit followed a calling to serve and protect the cats of Viejo Gato (the fictional town where the cat soap opera Our IX Lives takes place). Brother to Kit Chase, on and off again love interest of Paisley.

Our IX Lives Brad
This guy is the worst. Spends his time scheming to steal Angora away from Kit Chase, and the Taggart family fortune away from Snowball.

Our IX Lives Captain Nimble
Often lost at sea, Captain Nimble never fails to sail into port just when he’s needed most. Husband of Princess. Twin brother to Paisley.

Our IX Lives Dr. Mittens
Brad’s dastardly partner in crime. Specialties include cardboard box car chases and death certificate forgeries.

Our IX Lives Father O’Kittery
The benevolent local priest serving the cats of Viejo Gato. Father O’Kittery had a paw in raising the orphaned Chase brothers, Kit and Bandit. Rumor has it that before he turned to the priesthood, he was the childhood sweetheart of the famed actress Snowbelle Cane (before her rushed marriage to Snowball Taggart under mysterious circumstances…).

Our IX Lives Kit Chase
Our favorite bad boy (swoon!), Kit always comes through! The perfect mix of a tough guy who is secretly sweet, Kit doesn’t have it easy. Raised in an orphanage, framed for a crime he didn’t commit; Kit’s out of jail and doing his best. He’s deeply in love with Angora and would do anything for his girl. Brother to Bandit.

Our IX Lives Lord Crabbington
Captain Nimble’s faithful crab buddy.

Our IX Lives Paisley
Viejo Gato’s resident psychic and Angora’s best friend. Terrific sense of fashion; frequently struck by “visions”. Recently Paisley became a single mom to three telekinetic kittens who keep her on her toes.

Our IX Lives Princess
Strong, confident, and defiant, Princess is Angora’s protective, independent older sister. She truly brings the “eldest daughter” energy to every adventure. Devoted wife to Captain Nimble. It’s uncertain (and unlikely) that she’s actually Snowball Taggart’s kitten.

Our IX Lives Rascal
The friendliest of the Nimble quadruplets. Son of Princess and Captain Nimble.

Our IX Lives Rogue
The little shy guy in the Nimble quadruplets. Son of Princess and Captain Nimble.

Our IX Lives Rowdy
Always ready for adventure, the wildest of the Nimble quadruplets. Son of Princess and Captain Nimble.

Our IX Lives Sister Snowbelle
A nun who lives in seclusion, serving the church in Viejo Gato. Bears a striking resemblance to the late Snowbelle (Cane) Taggart, mother of Princess and Angora, who died in an untimely helicopter accident years ago…

Our IX Lives Snowball Taggart
A fish oil tycoon billionaire and scoundrel extraordinaire. It’s suspected Snowball amassed much of his wealth through frauds and scheming. Regularly fakes heart problems to avoid consequences. Father to Angora and maybe (but probably not) Princess. While he’s not a great father, he genuinely adores his grandchildren, the Nimble quadruplets.

Our IX Lives Sweetheart
The most observant and funniest of the Nimble quadruplets.

Our IX Lives Paisley’s Telekinetic Kittens
These three little bundles of joy have the power to move objects with their mind. Their father remains a mystery that tortures Paisley’s former love—who looks exactly like them—Bandit.

Pawtuxet Steve
The Rhode Island counterpart to Punxsutawney Phil. Steve is the local groundhog seer the CN News crew turns to yearly to predict the start of spring.

Pengo
The Boy’s favorite stuffed animal and best friend, Pengo the stuffed penguin sometimes finds his way into the CN News headlines.

Pippa
The Girl’s beloved stuffed toy fox and best buddy.

Popcorn
The current guinea pig scribe. Guinea pigs in BCN are the witnesses to historical events, more record keepers than reporters. Every generation has their own piggie-scribe, who will show up in moments they deem significant, to sketch notes and later capture history in the quiet of their shavings-filled tanks. Each works in their own media; Popcorn is a watercolorist.

Princess Magazine
Queen Magnet’s oldest grandchild and heir to the raccoon court. Sometimes called “Young Mag,” Princess Magazine is bright, headstrong, and eager to step into her role as leader of the raccoons.

Puck
The feline interest reporter of CN News. With a soft paw and steady purr, Puck asks the questions we all want answered. A sweet little guy who never fails to get tough when it comes to his friends, family, alone time, and what’s right. Puck stepped into a parental role after kittens Ora Zella and Iggy were adopted, co-parenting with Elvis and juggling a news career.

Queen Magnet
Also known as “Old Mag,” she’s the reigning ruler of the raccoons, overseeing their extensive trash and recycling operations, and the acting judge of the raccoon court. Longtime frenemy of Baba Mouse.

Santa Claus
Santa is real. It’s canon!

Sir Figaro Newton
The roaming reporter of Gatos de Noticias, the Spanish-meowing broadcast upstairs. Figaro is a friendly, cool guy who never shies away from getting the story!

Sophie
Local eccentric; a sensitive artist who works in mixed media modernism and found objects.

Spork
The baby of Princess Magnet’s five younger brothers. A total cutie-pie.

Starfish Squeaker
Sophie’s treasured cat toy from her brief time imprisoned at That Woman’s house. She was retrieved for Sophie by Gutter the raccoon.

Tabitha
Dedicated reporter of Gatos de Noticias, who often sits in at the anchor desk. Tabitha is a formidable investigative journalist, driven by the truth. She speaks four languages—Spanish, English, Russian, and one more currently unknown—and has caught the Red Dot.

Tabitha’s Woman
Super cool lady and local librarian with access to the town’s historical archives.

The irascible troublemaking prince of the leprechauns who infest the cupboards of the Big Pink House.

The Leprechaun Queen Granny Bitty
Graceful, serene, and helpful, Granny Bitty stands in stark contrast to her ne’er-do-well son and is often tasked with cleaning up his messes.

The Bird in the Cuckoo Clock
This noisy little pal makes hourly appearances in the living room, but never stays long enough for an interview.

The Boy
Once the Baby, then the Toddler, and now the Boy, he’s one of the Children in the apartment and often contributes to CN News’ headlines. The Boy is a gentle, creative child who loves science and make-believe. He is particularly fond of Goldie, Iggy, and his stuffed penguin, Pengo. Son of the Man and the Woman. Brother to the Girl.

The Builders
Appearing whenever the Big Pink House is in need of repairs or renovations, these guys are Lupin’s biggest fans.

The Destry Home Hearth
The unpredictable digital assistant in the apartment. Destry is fluent in sarcasm in more than 50 languages.

The Ferrets
It’s a nonstop party with these fuzzy friends around! They are active, outgoing, and overwhelming. They share a home with their friend and fellow ferret Wesley.

The Future Lady Cubs of America
Seen selling cookies and homemade goods to benefit the Quinn Animal Shelter, the Future Lady Cubs of America are fabulous little business women!

The Gentleman Cricket
A local musician, seen on summer nights.

The Girl
For a time in BCN the Girl was also known as the Baby, after her brother the Boy graduated to the Toddler. She’s a cheery bundle of happy mayhem, well matched with her frequent partner in crime, Ora Zella. She loves art, music, and dressing like a squirrel. Elvis is extra protective of her. Daughter of the Man and the Woman. Sister to the Boy.

The Grimtech Zombie Bunnies
Seen in security footage Burt hacked from Grimtech labs, rumor has it these spooky bunnies escaped into the Wild Lands, where they recovered. Folks say some continue to live there today as regular rabbits, whose eyes glow just the slightest red under the right circumstances...

The Intruder
Sister of the Woman, and occasional sitter-of-cats. Vibrant, funny, and free-speaking, Lupin harbors a not-so-secret crush on her.

The July Bug
Friend? Foe? Immortal? No one is sure. Every July this joyful harbinger of havoc makes an appearance. According to archives of past broadcasts, he’s been doing this for many years, leading the cats (and viewers) to speculate on his age and origin. Also known as “Jules.”

The Killer Roombas From Outer Space
These mysterious aliens visited once in an attempt to clean up our world.

The Mailman
Also known as “the Mail Carrier.” This magical creature was long believed to only be a myth. While he’s still considered a cryptid by the cats, several appearances caught on film have proven his existence. Puck is a big fan!

The Man
Always confusing and never quick enough with a can opener, the People are often seen on CN News broadcasts, but rarely understood. The Man sports a tail that often changes in length, prompting speculation from the cats about how People balance.

The Nana
The Woman’s hilarious, intelligent, tough cookie mother who has an uncanny sense of when Elvis is about to misbehave.

The Red Dot
What does it want? Where does it go?? Where is it now? Cats want answers!

The Scientists
Former employees of Grimtech, who decided after one particularly stressful nightshift to quit and open a gaming store.

The Snakes
This trio is grateful to the cats of BCN for shifting March 17th’s focus away from notorious snake hater St. Patrick to the Patron Saint of cats, St. Gertrude.

The Vacuum
A truly feral beast, the Vacuum remains the only real wild animal in BCN. Acting on instinct and often difficult to understand, it’s best to take shelter when she’s let out of her pen (the hall closet).

The Woman
The cats of the main CN News broadcast live with the Woman, who is often seen filling their cat bowls, tending to her children (the Boy and the Girl), wrestling with the Vacuum, enjoying mystery shows, and endangering plants.

A hero of the Wild Lands, Thimblefist is always ready to lend a thimble when trouble comes to town! Best friend to Homestyle.

Thorn
The trusted crow ambassador of the raccoon court and advisor to Queen Magnet.

Tillie
A top notch ghostly reporter, who watches over the Big Pink House and is particularly fond of Puck.

Tommy

Tommy and Sophie’s Man, husband to their Woman. Shares her love of having a beautiful purple hammock in the living room.

Tommy’s Woman
Local vet tech and all around wicked rad lady, Tommy’s Woman never hesitates to jump in and help a cat or creature in need!

Tortimer
A robot vacuum who lives in the apartment and always does his best.

Trevor
Noted dog and friend of the broadcast. Trevor is a border collie with a kind, quiet, and anxious demeanor. He prefers reading in his dog bed and long walks in the woods to barking or doing tricks. Lives with Beatrix and their woman in the apartment above her bookstore.

Trevor’s Woman
The dry-witted, well-read, artistic owner of the local bookstore. She loves plants, science fiction, fantasy, and can conquer nearly any creative endeavor thrown her way.

Violet
The explosions expert of the Robber Mice Gang! Her favorite kind of explosion is a sandwich bag filled with flour or glitter and tossed from a distance, and viewers at home are urged to never, ever do that.

Wesley
A cheese connoisseur and former flame of Sophie’s.

Wicket
Known by the Mice as “the Wicked.” Wicket is dangerous, cunning, and not to be trusted. In his younger years, he courted (and betrayed) both Baba Mouse and Queen Magnet.

Winifred Quinn
The former owner of the Big Pink House was the sole heiress to her parents’ fortune in the early 1900s. She devoted herself and her resources to founding Quinn Animal Shelter. Deeply connected to the Big Pink House and the surrounding properties, Quinn Farms and Quinn Animal Shelter, her presence is often felt by the CN News crew and even some of the People.
