/// At The Wine Press they work hard and long.

To keep cool, some girls wear a sarong.

    Though the young man believes

    that he’s wearing grape leaves,

poison ivy was used for his thong.

The secret to getting that oak flavour in their wine was adding cow patties.

With the way their clothes are falling off, they must be emptying out last years vintage to make room for the new.

He thought they were grape leaves, but they’re poison ivy.

P.S. The girls are in on it! Tee hee.

The original painting is much larger. A whole section to the left was cropped out. This is the original:

Bacchus and his Bacchae look forward to the upcoming baccanal, but the music will not be by Bach. You might remember Bacchus from his 1960s TV commercials for Italian Swiss Colony Wine. Is that figure to the left Bacchus, AKA The Little Old Winemaker, Me?

This moment, captured in time, how bucolic! Unfortunately, it was during the next unloading of grapes that Anthony slipped off the ladder onto the oxen horns…..forever after to be known as No butt Tony!

He’d have a better view if he let the girls climb up while he holds the ladder for them.

I, too, must sing praise to the fruit of the vine. / Who doesn’t enjoy a good glass of wine? / Chardonnay, Burgundy, or Merlot, / A new Chablis or an aged Bordeaux, / Shared with good food and good friends, is anything more fine?

Those have to be the smallest bulls on record; some kind of dwarf breed? On the other hand, as that fellow has three stripping ladies lined up, he must have an excellent reputation as a bull.

Annis was chosen to sit on the edge of the wine cask because his crack fit perfectly.

(Annis was NOT my first choice of a name but the more appropriate near-rhyme is A BAD WORD – apparently)

The coloring (tan/brown) of some of the leaves in the lower right in the basket of grapes almost looked like some type of dog (German or Belgian Shepard) had snuck in there.

You wonder why they bother with clothes that seem designed to slide off with every move. The vines seem more practical.

    The Wine Press

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:Paintings by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes" site=commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string Wine, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3023 (November 4, 2022) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 5 works by this artist have been used here. The September 6, 2019, strip has the prior. The active artist info URLs in my comment there are here links in my blog comment.
