Reboot’s idea of anything new is hiss and run away. Twice now that’s been his reaction to Update. I don’t know that she’s really noticed him. I think Reboot will be ok with Update when he gets used to the idea. I have no idea how Database will react. Only time will tell, but Update is small enough to not be a threat to her alphaness.

Meet Goose! After Jack died this kitty kept popping up in my Facebook feed. I decided to adopt him! He had been at the shelter for over 100 days. His first night home he jumped up on my lap and purred. Then I woke up in the middle of the night and he was sleeping next to me. I really believe that Jack has sent him to me. What an awesome birthday present!!

So at Midnight, there will be a window of opportunity!

I was reading some mystery short stories by Edmund Crispin and was reminded of Lupin and his deafness by the fact that one of the stories ended as follows:

“Quite,” said [Gervaise] Fen [the solver of the mystery]. “That was how I realized she was shamming deafness — wasn’t , in fact, what she pretended to be. A genuinely deaf person would have felt the vibration of that heavy fall, conducted through the floor and walls, and would have turned at once.”

This is the anniversary of my day of emergence into this lifetime, and I’d like to say though I do still miss Rico (who passed on shortly before this day last year), I’m very grateful to have my “new” dog, Bucky! I miss having Rico on my lap, but Bucky gets cuddlier as time goes on (and the weather gets cooler). Yesterday he scampered after a squirrel for the first time! As a senior dog who apparently didn’t get to spend enough time outside, I’m not sure if he doesn’t have the chasing gene, or just never learned to do it. Closest he’s come before was to speed walk after some geese, and a duck. That was funny – they didn’t bother to fly away, just waddled quickly – then jumped into the pond!

Surely there is some plan to free the bunnies as well, although if they are addicted to the little green pills, I wonder if that would really be a kindness.

Please tell me the mousies aren’t going to leave the bunnies behind.

I actually understand this series of strips better than usual, and the musical accompaniment is great

Hippo Birdie Two Ewes, El Biff—may your bacon never mold, may your suspenders never be old, may your fuzzy blanket be never cold.

The name “Grimtech” puts me in mind of a piglet slaughter and processing factory in Ontario, Canada called “Fearmans Pork”. The plant was founded by the Fearman family in the mid-19th century, but holy heck is that name a little too on-the-snout for those of us who love pigs and wish they didn’t have to fear anything from humans.

Like a fine wine he just gets better with age. Happy Birthday Elvis!
