Well he thrashed again last night when I was putting him on the bed – but that just seemed to be because I wanted to hold him a little longer than he wanted. I’ll take the progress!

It’s ironic that the response to “fear of being dropped” is actually to increase the likelihood that they’ll be dropped! Or at least, not set down gently. But, not a rational thought process. I’m very grateful most of his PTSD symptoms have gone away, with a few years of unconditional love and respect.

Yes, they both have some value – especially if you like hyper-processed food ;)

I halfway kid; I’ve read recently an in-depth article about how Big Food hyper-processes the nutritional value out of food, replacing it with addictive substances such as processed sugars and fats.

I’m actually not fanatical about food; my feeling is, as long as it’s in moderation, enjoy what you like! If you eat a good balance, some processed foods won’t hurt. ALL processed foods is another thing; but I’m sure neither you nor I eat all processed foods. Though I admit, it’s likely I actually eat more processed foods than you – I have a fondness for hot dog-style foods, meat or meatless, due to the ease of preparation and consumption (NOT a Freudian thing).

“Processed cheese product” does of course have some cheese in it … and like you say, stays fresh longer. And, it bubbles up nicely when toasted. But I can’t help teasing about it … in my thought, it’s to cheese what spam is to meat.

Thanks for your suggestion! I’ve been trying to do as you said, with some success. I started holding him tighter to my body until I’m closer to putting him down, and squatting some while I do. He seems to thrash when he doesn’t feel securely held; so, when putting him on the bed, I can squat a little and set him down near the edge without leaning or extending him unsupported; that gives him less opportunity to thrash!

The key for him seems to be, in addition to not leaning, trying to hold him snugly to my body as long as possible before setting him down. I’ve tried that some in the past, but there’s only so much I can do if I’m putting him down from standing. That said, just being aware of keeping a solid hold on him is helping – yay! Thanks again!

I don’t think I can squat low enough to put him down without leaning! He’s about cat sized. And, even when I just set him on the bed, which doesn’t involve leaning (placing him nearly horizontally), he still starts to thrash. But, I’ll keep that in mind, and see if it helps. I’ll try anything, as long as it seems safe.

Oh, and my last dog LOVED his Snuggli! This one tolerates it occasionally. Glad to see I’m not the only one who carries pets in baby carriers! Though, I imagine Georgia’s was actually purchased for a real baby. I got mine at a rummage sale (which I didn’t know was aimed at children’s things). If it hadn’t been almost over, I might not have bought it, thinking to leave it for someone who wanted it for a baby. Glad I didn’t. I imagine it was because that style was kind of complicated to use – straps everywhere.

I can relate with my dogs! My previous dog LOVED being picked up and held, as well as lap-sitting. This one however does NOT. The first time I picked him up like I had the former one, he SCREAMED. It was blood-curdling. I quickly realized he had PTSD from people not respecting his personal space (and Dog knows what else), as well as a sore behind from being constipated – so scooping his rear, as I had my previous one, did NOT work. And, he’d sometimes thrash unexpectedly while being held, resulting in his being dropped, which wasn’t good. He also screamed when startled, especially when touched unexpectedly. Now I make sure to approach him gently and slowly. He still doesn’t like being held much, but loves sleeping on my bed (and other benefits that come with being picked up), so he tolerates it much better. I just wish I could get him to stop thrashing when I’m putting him down!

Not sure that actually counts as “cheese”… ;)
