Oh, the dreaded two words: “what if.”

Stay the course, Tiff. Literally.

Does Bets know she hails from a wealthy dad who cut off her allowance? It’d help her understand where she is coming from – a poor rich girl who wants a life she is accustomed to. It is quite natural Tiffany wants the life she grew up in – never having to look at prices and buying on whims, having one-of-a-kind designer label clothes, eating at exotic restaurants and driving foreign cars. Now Tiffany is dimly understanding she has to work for the life she wants back. Tom Farrell is not gonna give it to her – not as long as he’s with Ann, that is. Who knows how long Ann will have her claws on Tom.

“Ethics”, huh? Judging from the news lately, a lot of students sleep through that, or just don’t show up.

Tiff stop setting your goals low.

Don’t bail just yet. A little hard work never hurt anyone.

Oh, Tiff, with your looks and that body, you definitely don’t need a course in ethics. Quite the opposite. And calculus? Sure, while Ox is attending a ballet class. Get back to your original dream. Manicures, boutique, financial freedom, happiness.

You can skip the ethics class, Tiffany. The big rich guy in the Oval obviously did (not meant as a political comment; meant as a comment on learning…)

Regular person ethics: You see someone drop a $100 bill. You run up to them to tell them and give it back.

Business ethics: You invent a reason to get their address, then invest the $100 and hope you get $1000. If you do, you return the $100. If you’re really ethical, with $10 interest.

Criminal ethics: You run up to them and mug them because they may have another $100 bill.

Political ethics: You spend the $100 to buy advertising to smear your opponent to get elected, then you work to pass legislation to help the company that offers you the biggest campaign contributions to get re-elected, which happens to be a company that produces opiods that are abused. The person who lost the $100 became depressed and got an opiod prescription, became addicted and lost their job and family and home. You talk about how there’s a homeless crisis, but the homeless don’t make campaign donations, so you don’t do anything about it.

Seriously, are these business major classes? I’d think you’d want marketing, management, basic accounting, business law, and suchlike, not advanced math and philosophy. Has the college cobbled together a “business course” from its other disciplines?

Didn’t Tiffany’s dad begin having financial setbacks after he started hangin’ with Ann?

Usually this isn’t math major Calculus, but something like “Calculus concepts for Business Majors”. Ditto with the statistics. Ethics, on the other hard, is straight up business major.

“Very, very well off” comes with its own set of required courses, the first of which is “patch things up with Ann Eiffel 101”.

Give her time, Tiff will get there. She has shown great character development.

Bets looks like she is thinking in the last panel “This may be more effort than it is worth.”

Time to find a sugar-daddy boyfriend.

Better to work for what you want than be a leech.

Get the Bus mgmt. degree, go into business, place yourself in a position to put your dad out of business…he’ll be broke, and then Ann will leave him…put dad back on track, and then relax and sponge off of him for the rest of your life. What you’d really like, eh?

Uh, no business major program in the country dictates calculus as part of the curriculum.

Bets will need all her patience to remain friend with Tiffany without exploding when she says things like this. She will have to be like Gunther… interesting.

Well, Tiff, in order to be “very, very well off” just take a page from Ann’s play book: marry well.

She’ll either (A) graduate from school and marry someone wealthy or (B) Learned her life lessons and make her own empire. She got the drive and ideas+skills, just need the how to push it forward and become a huge venture to eclipse them all. Then when Ann and Tom come to her for cash, she can tell them where to go…

So, while I hope Tiffany changes her mind, and truly immersed herself into her Business Major…. and comes to realize she is smarter than she thinks… she could also go and transfer to Pitt CC and instead go for an Associate Degree in business, or perhaps a more “trade” oriented Associates in something akin to “beauty” or “fashion”. I hope this does not occur, however, and she stays at Moony U.

I have a business degree and took Statistics & Calculus but Calculus was an option. It wasn’t a requirement for the degree.

Ah, Finally. We come to the REAL take away from this week’s Strip. A Solidifying Friendship. Bets selflessly offering to help Tiffany in her Studies. No “50%, cut.” No Strings Attached. Tiffany ASKED Gunther to be “Study Buddies.” Bets, pretty much “Volunteered.” Big Change.

Oh. And speaking of “Gunther.” NO Gunther. Sorry, Dog. Yeah, I’m a little disappointed too.

This seems like the end off the arc today – unless we go to the gulag and see Bets/Gun and Tiff/Les having to deal with each other.

Maybe there’s a Business Lite program that only requires accounting and general ed courses.

Maybe Calculus Lite for Tiff. She orders something from Soufflé and will be traveling when she needs to get it…

Tiffany needs about 4 years of Calculus prerequisites first.

Didn’t Tiffany talk to ANYbody from the college before she decided on this major who could have told her what it would require? Do colleges just let you switch majors without at least one counseling session?

It looks like she’s already decided to either bail out or not try very hard.

Boy the sexism, fat shaming, females being more regarded for their bodies, less on their intelligence is ripe and rank in these sets of comments. Tiffany should depend on her body, what kind of body, before or after, Why even try? go do nails. Or go to community college that is best for her, since community college is for lesser somehow. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I prefer to wish her the best luck, believe that she can handle hard stuff (remember John F. Kennedys’ exjortation “we do the hard stuff because it’s hard”), and be very happy that someone who had a rather artificial regard for herself is now becoming a better traveler in the real world, as a woman, who is person not a sex object. And the fact that a woman of color is the person who is encouraging her, while at the same time helping Gun(ther) become the man he is meant to be is an even better bonus.

Maybe, once Bets gets to know Tiffany better, she might persuade Tiffany that getting a good idea of what she could do with a business degree, might be a way to undo Ann. I don’t think Ann would expect an educated attack from Tiffany. :o)

I think the most startling thing about the comic strip is the total eclipse of the sun that occurs in the second panel and is gone away by the second panel. Tiffany and Bets just keep talking as if nothing happened.

Uhm… The help Tiffany needs Bets can’t provide.

Unless you have connections or are at the top of your class in a top university, a business degree is not going to make you wealthy.

Bets is so close to flawless that if she were any closer, she’d have to change her name to David.

Tiffany has as much of a chance of passing calculus as common lake trout.

there are 3 ways to get rich, you can inherit it, steal it, or work for it. The latter is actually pretty rare in this day and age, and just about everyone who is a billionaire has in some way or another done the second one (usually through tax dodging.)

I am afraid for Tiffany. I took those classes for my BS Business degree. Had a high IQ and went on for a master’s. Those classes were rough on a good day. In Calculus the only thing I got right was my name on the top of a paper. Not feeling optimistic for T.

Business degree holder here and never had to take Calculus or pre-Calculus to graduate.

Calculus because the Math Department has a Lot of influence.

Statistics because it just Might be Useful.

Ethics to help keep you out of Jail. It’s so Embarrassing when the Class Reunion has to be held in a SuperMax.

I just don’t see Tiffany taking Calculus AND Statistics.

Bets is sweet and generous but with Tiffany she has her work cut out. Unpacking and rearranging Tiffany’s clouded mindset may be the most difficult task.

Ahh, no. Bets won’t let you cut any corners, Tiffany. It’s all for Your Own Good, as you will come to see and appreciate….
