Unless Tiffany makes some significant changes in her approach to life this could end badly. That being said, remember the distaf side of the GnK writing team, and I don’t see Karen taking Tiffany down the obvious path. If you’ll excuse the historical reference, the world awaits.

Sorry Kiddo. But your “epic fail” was being approved for that (no doubt, high interest) credit card.

And by the way Tiffany? Have you given any thought on how you’re going pay that credit card bill each month?

Surely not with just that laughable mere pittance of a salary you’re getting from Kidz First.

I’m getting the feeling you may long for that dishwasher job at the Fuse after you get the first bill from the card company……,

Ummm….Tiffany? It is YOUR card…and dad will not be paying for you. He was paying for the card that Ann is monitoring you for. Every penny you spent on YOUR card, you have to pay back PLUS interest. That card your dad’s been paying is actually HIS card, HIS account and you have the secondary card from his account and he’s been paying for every item you bought on that card. Now you’re on your own. Knowing you can’t have TiffasNails just yet, and minimum wage at First 1st, you better accept the dishwasher job – pronto – to be able to pay next month’s bill.

Well, I thought (briefly though it was) that Greg was going to let up on the Tiffany Torture Trail, but it seems not to be. Tiff will spend herself into trouble. OR Ann will be monitoring Tiff’s credit history, find out about the card and once again rain on Tiff panel 3 parade.

Entrepreneurs often times have to take on some risk to start up. Without which, many of the businesses today just would not exist. Managed right she’ll pay that off in no time flat. Especially if she gains a partner and backers. No telling what could be accomplished.

Oh this is just so bad! I can’t etand seeing her dig herself a hole like this. Worst part is she is going to prove Ann right. Tiffany doesn’t know how to be wise with money. She does need censure. And her Dad, whether he is in money trouble or not is going to have a fit when he sees the bills piling up for her “business” expenses etc. etc.

I know that some credit card companies, specifically not mentioning the one run by the new owner of the Carolina Panthers, specialize in “high risk” customers. But how did Tiffany get approved with no income, and, the dorm at Muni as an address? I’m not a credit card company, and, I don’t play one in the comic strips, but Tiffany’s present financial status seems a “little” more than high risk to me.

For all the (accurate) complaints about credit cards, in my experience the real wolf is auto loans. By the time many teens get to driving age they assume they can get a loan for their dream car and everything will be roses. Six year loan, with the abyss of repossession hovering constantly, during the time their expenses rise the fastest and their jobs are iffy. Too many never even check the cost of full coverage auto insurance – a condition of the loan. Repossession leaves them with no car, mind-numbing residual debt, and wrecked credit.

Of course she got approved, credit card companies LOVE college students who don’t understand debt. She probably didn’t even look at the interest rate, yearly fees or terms and conditions. Doubtless she’ll max it out the moment she gets it and face a large minimum payment every month with a double digit interest rate.

I got a credit card when I was in college. I was absolutely not ready to have a credit card. Luckily it was only a $500 max limit, but by the time I finally paid it off, that $500 had become $1000 after interest and penalties. Took me years before I felt comfortable owning a credit card again, but now while I use it for pretty much all my purchases so I earn rewards, I don’t view it as the free money I kinda did back then and I pay it off in full every month. Tiffany will be learning a hard lesson, and Dez is giving surprisingly terrible advice in encouraging her to get one.

Like I said it is not surprising that her application for a credit card was approved, for the college student target market credit card companies employ the same strategy that drug dealers employ to hook new customer/addicts, give a nearly free sample of the drug, so the user becomes a user. So there is that. I don’t think that is the point though, although Tiffany is the worse possible person to extend any kind of credit to, particularly signature credit. She is used to using a piece of plastic like a sippy cup, instant gratification with no consequences, such as paying the debt created at every sip. But I am guessing this is really part of an arc that eventually makes her older, wiser, freer, and ultimately happier being able to put down the sippy cup, and be responsible for herself. At least I hope it does, Tycoon Tiffany. She must might…

What is interesting is if she is still under 21 (assumption she is 18 or older), then she must prove she has a source of income. Othewise, she has to go to “daddy” to ante up for a secured credit card.
