The plus here is that Tiffany’s dad might actually be inclined to bankroll such an endeavor, particularly if he gets a cut. The downside is that Ann Eiffel will want to use Tiffany’s business to launder money or cheat customers or some other sort of ridiculously obvious illegal thing.

I was thinking late yesterday. What if Tiffany operated her business on the donation model. No set prices, just pay what you wish. This way it is not really a business. Also promote it as a way for the students to show their school spirit!

Hear that Tiffany? Great Ideas coming your way!

Wouldn’t you like to be a CEO of your own Empire one day?

By the way, I see two of your Future “Executive Vice Presidents in Waiting,” standing nearby.

Now declare a major and HIT those books! And if you need help with your studies I know a book-smart “guy,” and his name ain’t Les or Jack.

And TRY to talk to Your pop about your ambitions, and see if you can leave your future “Step-Monster” OUT of the conversation……,

Ha! You found that dark pit in your brain and lit it! Yep, that. So, stay at Moony and realize your dream of an empire! Many in here don’t think you need a business degree to achieve that. I am not so sure. You need to learn accounting and how to read a spreadsheet, etc, especially if you want an empire. Your accountant and CEO might be inclined to embezzle and you would not know if you don’t know how to read financial reports, spreadsheets, etc.

Well, she’s inspired. And all she has to do is switch her major, unless her area has a cosmetology school she can attend.

Meanwhile. Luann is still plodding along in her dull life arc and Greg doesn’t know how to write any stories for her that don’t involve her getting a boyfriend.

I am glad that at least for the moment, it appears Tiffany is making a wiser decision.

If this goes to fruition… and we would like to see Tiffany maintain that focus and go into “high gear” with this as her aspriation, a route she could potentially pursue would be to:

    1. Immediately change her status at Moony U to a business major. Probably a lot/most/perhaps all of her courses she has thus far completed will be able to utilized for general education requirements and not put her behind.

    2. Explore the possibilities to enroll in the Pitt School of Cosmetology during Summers. Most Cosmetology schools that I was able to look at on line offer Summer options and a “full-time” student could earn their license in a year. If Tiffany did this for three or so Summers, she could potentially graduate simultaneously with her Business Degree and her Cosmetology License.

    3. She could also do the (quite common now) 5th year status and give herself a bit more breathing room and another Summer session for the license as well.

    * * * *

I think there could be ample options for “Hillarity Ensues” in both the business classes and in the cosmetology classes… so if Greg pursues this…. I think it could also be quite comedically funny. A lot of “fish-out-of-water” scenarios pop into my mind in this scheme.

somehow I’m reminded of the Underwear Gnomes from SouthPark , in Tiffany’s thought process:

    Step 1: collect underwear

    Step2: -————

    Step 3: PROFIT!

I think Tiffany is jumping over Step 2 also …. the hard work part.

I ran an anime shop. I think a business degree will help in managing a future chain of stores she envisions, but the actual nuts and bolts of creating and running a shop is much more basic: lease a store front, get a local business license, get signed up with the state Board or Equalization, do basic bookkeeping and meet the safety requirements.

GnK are now tackling their second “career epiphany” story line. The first involved Jack’s revelation – thanks to Luann – that he should follow his love of animals into a career in veterinary sciences. Jack started with “maybe I could be a vet!”, did some further research, and is now working towards a vet tech certificate. That may lead to vet school or it may or not, but Jack is taking a realistic, work hard approach that seems to be consistent with what we know of his character.

And now Tiffany is seeing cosmetology as her calling… and her mind is going straight from doing a few nails to field domination. With plenty of opportunities for hilarity to ensue at Tiffany’s expense.

It’s been nice to watch Tiffany’s character grow in complexity in the past year or two, beyond the self-centered bubble-head she was portrayed as in high school. I hope that growth continues till we see her as a successful entrepreneur – a very successful entrepreneur. – in the fashion or beauty field.

Now if GnK could just help Bernice to some self-awareness and insights into her career choice…

Eschew both Awful Ann and absent father. Use your own ambition, vision, sense of style, and yes, feminine wiles, to make it on your own. Learn the nail/spa business and rely on the strong points of your friends; choose them wisely. Once you get started, hire the expertise you need.

GoComics seems to forget me password and username from time to time so I have to redo my password. Is this their sneaky way of making one change the password? Why, there is no money involved here. Anyone else have this issue? Anyway to the panel/arc of the day. First I hope that this leads to a positive basic set of developments in Tiffany’s life. It might take awhile for her to get to where she could be, and it is up in the air to me, given the real world choices, and opportunities, how far in Luannverse she will or should pursue B-School. I do think it wise she takes as many courses as possible, and get real world experience, and avail herself of all the sources out there, like the SBA for a start. But I think the main thing is that she get confidence enough to support herself, and more importantly her own self-esteem, and as Abraham Maslow would say her self-actualization. Typical for college age persons. What might be a possible arc development is the battle for dad’s money and love between her and Ann Awful. Tiffany might have a ace card to play now that her dad might be interested in, and that might threaten Ann. On the other hand Ann might want to be an investor, partner. I would not do that, but anything is possible in Luannverse. I also like the way Bernice and Dez are drawn here. Being helpful, and believable. Tiffany’s Empire. See Hilarity ensues after all.

Deep down she is really a good kid who has just been spoiled too much. I know this is just a comic, but I enjoy it and it is the first thing I sign onto everyday when I turn on my computer. Soap Operas updated from TV to the computer. She is probably going to be more successful than all of the characters.

I have run my own business for many years, and when my sister passed away a number of years ago, I suddenly found myself running two businesses – one of them was my sister’s salon (not my cup of tea). She had me promise to do my best to keep it open. There was one of the 5 women there that had a good business head on her shoulders, and I could trust her as I knew her for many years. My wife and I had to make a decision – either add another person to take my sister’s place and station in the shop and keep running it, or sell the shop and it’s fixtures to someone who would keep it running. Since the salon was only 2 miles from my shop, it was easy for me to check in, and in the evenings, I would do the bookwork and update the product inventory, place inventory orders, then pay bills. The girls were worried that I might close the salon, but I told them I would keep it open with one major change. They were no longer employees, but became “independent contractors”, rented the stalls from me, and I took a percentage of sales. It ran along doing well, and after about 6 months, the one who I thought had a good business head approached me wanting to buy the business. After all, she had been practically running the place for me. I helped her as much as I could with letting my sister’s deposit on the building remain for her, giving her some of the fixtures, the inventory for pennies on the dollar, and giving her assistance/advice here and there. Since there was no purchase of the building, I sold her the business for what the average yearly net was. We both thought the price was equitable, and I was out from underneath something I really did not care for. The salon is still running today, and doing well. I love to see when someone who is young get ahead and be a success.

Folks seem to think Tiff should study cosmetology instead of business. Tiff has been in ‘beauty school’ all her life, you could say. Clearly, she knew what she was doing with the nails and she knows how to cut hair (she changed Bernice’s style). She has the ability. A business degree will serve her better IMO in the long term. Tiff can do the beauty stuff; she needs the organizational and management skills to make a venture work.

Well, I’m glad Tiffany has a goal in life now. But here’s the thing… Tiffany kind of needs money now. Ann won’t let her use her card in peace, Kids 1st has cut her income, and Dad can’t be bothered to listen to her about anything, especially when it comes to Ann.

So, while she knows how she’ll make money in the future, how is she going to earn money in the meantime?

I’m not so sure. Staying in college means Tiff has to stay under her fathers (and Ann’s) financial control. A college degree isn’t necessary to start a business. It’s useful to WORK in a corporate environment, but as several people have commented, the market is flooded with MBA’s. I would hope that a good B school education would teach how to limit liability by working with financial entity’s known to honer there debts & pay on time (not Ann). The only good way I see this turning out for Tiff is if she consults with Les, Grey or someone on how to limit Ann’s interference BEFORE asking for any money to start an empire or even have them pay for school. So we’re back to Tiff needs a lot of money NOW. Government grants to start a business maybe? But there going to ask about what portion of her income is funded by her father, and if she has any experience running a business.

Daddy might suddenly develop an actual interest in his child if she went for a business degree. He’s a businessman; they’d have something in common, and he might actually want to support this effort – support as in emotionally, as well as financially. Wouldn’t Evil Ann hate that!
