And you think all of those things can be attributed to mothers working outside the home? We live in a society that glorifies huge corporate profits; we have been moving away from a society that rewards workers for a long time now. The people at the top accumulate more and more profit, while their employees do the work of 3 or more people at their primary job, and still have to have a second, sometimes even a third, job to survive. College costs are out of control, health care costs are out of control, and housing costs are way, way beyond out of control. Who profits from that? Huge corporations, not the general public. Meanwhile we’re told by politicians that the people to blame are those who are even poorer than the overworked middle class: Minorities and immigrants, most of whom handle the jobs that middle class people won’t do. We have millions of people in prison who work for pennies producing goods for corporate masters; we have companies who moved their manufacturing overseas where they can pay workers starvation wages, rather than keep the jobs here and pay workers fairly. It wasn’t mothers going to work that forced these changes. It was corporate greed working hand in hand with the politicians they bought.
Bernice’s “feelings” are that a nice looking guy has complimented her, and as she is actually shy, she doesn’t quite know how to react. If she had other feelings for him, she wouldn’t have sat on that park bench perfectly calm and talked to him without any sign of nervousness.
And Luann is fine with it because she showed months (or possibly years) ago that Jack is just a friend. Let the girls have friends, everything doesn’t have to be about romance.
What they are is friends. That’s it. That’s all. Why can’t Luann have some male friends instead of everyone trying to constantly pair her up with every man she meets? What is she, 18, 19, 20? What’s the hurry?
Who wears heels to the dog park???
Same thing the county got – the shaft!
Aha! I knew it. Ann is a con artist, after all, and this is just another scam. After a couple of months, she would just tragically “miscarry” but by then the fish has been hooked. I really can’t see her going through an actual pregnancy again.
Oh, great, Frank. You’ve been the beneficiary of your wife’s unpaid housework and child care for over 20 years. She is now taking on extra work at the company you (and she) created, and all you can do is whine because you have to make dinner and throw in a load of laundry?
I wonder if all these people would be saying “no, you should stay home with your spouse in the evenings” if it was FRANK that wanted to take over Pru’s job.
The term “hunter-gatherer” refers to the whole society, not just to the role of males. Men hunted, women gathered. That’s an over-simplification as very likely both sexes shared most tasks for a good portion of human history. When you have to create every tool you use, every garment or ornament you wear, every meal you eat, as well as hunting or trapping, skinning, plucking and cleaning every animal, bird, or fish you obtain, being picky about who does what is a luxury.
Fun fact: Most of humanity’s impact on climate is caused by a few very large corporations. Lower your thermostat all you want. You’re not really making much of an impact, if any.
