Personally I just hit the Publix deli on the 4th nowadays for fried chicken, Cuban sandwiches and sometimes a mojo rotisserie chicken or mojo pork with the normal fixings like slaw and potato salad and guava pastelitos from the bakery.
Just call it extra well done, and make sure everyone has lots of condiments. I like burgers but found out the hard way that they’re not as good without condiments.
Sigh, if they wanted a burger done their way, they perhaps should have gone to a certain fast food establishment which touts that in one of their slogans…
The key to a successful cookout is not asking anyone how they want their burger cooked. Unless you are a professional short-order cook, it’s too complicated and everyone’s food get a ready as different times. Just cook every burger the same. Don’t overcook them – don’t undercooked them: it’ll be fine.
Say, what’s up with the background? It’s just a plain color like they are inside, but no one, not even Jon would put a grill inside of their house. Either Jim Davis needs to add more details to the sky, or he needs to think of these things.
My (Late) father-in-law did burgers just like Jon. Put the burgers on the Grill, Squirt on lighter fluid and light it up. Serve the charcoal briquettes on a bun with a pickle.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Jon got some grilling tips from Roger Fox of Foxtrot. Anybody wants some ham briquets? Plenty of carbon for everyone.
Jon: How does everyone want their burger done?Garfield: First bun, then patty, followed by ketchup, mustard, pickles, extra onions, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and bun, in that order.

Jon the burger burner. Well, well! When he plays the chef, you should know what’s at STEAK…

Whose idea was it to make Jon the grillmaster?

Happy 4th of July to all!

Sort of a missed opportunity to have Liz being introduced to Jon’s family and the farm before this.

Even for Jon, a burger is kinda hard to mess up. Also, I like mine medium rare and marinated in worcestershire sauce prior to grilling.

Just skip the grill completely and you have steak tartare. Much simpler.

I think this might be the first time we’ve seen Liz with Jon’s family since they started dating.

Some extra mayonnaise in the bun will solve that problem.

That’s no grill…

But rare hamburger is a recipe for E. coli, and extra crispy is carcinogenic.

Scary, but this 4th is the kickoff of America250 which is in 2026.

And thus is it perfectly explained why Jon doesn’t cook often

This is the funniest Garfield yet. I’ll be saving this one, for sure.
It looks like everyone knows Jon’s grilling technique, such as it is. Extra crispy. That’s a hoot.

Asking the chef to put salt on your burger for you seems odd. Just put some on yourself when it’s done.
