Elvis’ headband is awesome! I never found one like that, but I used to wear them as a front desk admin for all the holidays. And poor Puck and his groundhog hat…
Poor Pucky, I too have a hard time getting in to the whole Groundhog Day thing as well. What do you say we just sit in the window and watch the bird feeder?
Sigh…I guess Groundhog’s Day has been so commercialized and I just can’t get into the spirit! CAN’T ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT GROUNDHOG’S DAY IS ALL ABOUT?!
Serfig-Aro: Your Majesty, may I present the Royal Prognisticator, Phil-Adelph of Punxsutawney.
Her Majesty, Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Welcome, Phil-Adelph. What news do you bring?
Phil-Adelph: I awoke from my slumber this morning, Your Majesty, and noted I did cast a shadow. That means the seasons will proceed as expected.
Puckmosis: What if you did not cast a shadow?
Phil-Adelph: It would indicate the day was overcast.
Puckmosis: So what is the difference?
Thomios: A great difference, friend Puck. When Phil does not see his shadow, I make angel food cake with vanilla ice cream. On those other times, I make chocolate shadow cake (available by googling chocolate shadow cake) with hot fudge sundaes. Either way, the entree is ham.
The Queen: Then let the feast begin. That is, if Lupinium doesn’t get there first.
There is a very funny cartoon on, Disney + called, 101 Dalmatian Street! In it there is a character named, Dante. He is literally a negative Dalmatian…black coat with white spots, who always predicts that everything is DOOMED! Hmmm, it reminds me of someone… ; )
I Am Cartoon Lady: Sigh…I guess Groundhog’s Day has been so commercialized and I just can’t get into the spirit! CAN’T ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT GROUNDHOG’S DAY IS ALL ABOUT?!
rs0204: Sure Cartoon Lady, I can tell you what Groundhog’s day is all about….Lights please…
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by a winter’s day.
And, lo, the Great Ground Hog came upon them, and the glory of the Hog shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the Ground Hog said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you this day in the city of Punxsutawney a weather-rodent which is Phil.
And this shall be a sign unto you that winter is not forever; Ye shall find the Ground Hog Yawning, and emerging from his den.
And suddenly there was with the Ground Hog was a multitude of the woodland creatures host praising Nature, and saying,
Glory to Nature in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards all creatures.

rs0204: That is what Groundhogs day is all about Cartoon Lady.
After days of gloomy, gray clouds, and a weekend of snow, thunder snow, sleet, freezing rain, more snow, the sun rose over the snow covered hill across the road. Take it away, Robin…
Puck is the cutest cat alive in that costume, other than when my mom put a cat hoodie on Mallory. That was the cutest thing ever, nothing will ever top that.
There seems to be some disagreement regarding the winter/spring forecast. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and scurried into his home to wait out six more weeks of winter. However, Woodstock Willie, in Woodstock, IL, where most of “Groundhog Day” was shot, did not see his shadow and is predicting an early spring. I live about 50 southeast of Woodstock; I saw my shadow this morning, so I’m hunkering down, especially since the weather is expected to turn bitterly cold this weekend. I think Willie is going to freeze his furries off!
I’m wondering, is there any Breaking Cat News subreddit? If not, I’ll start it. (Remember when I made a BCN discord? Yeah, that didn’t work. Also thanks for the support on my fan game!)
Poor Pucky is all confused because he doesn’t realize that Groundhog day was invented in the South. Down here, winter is not a season, it is a type of weather. It happens in spurts of a few days up to a few weeks, depending on your latitude and altitude (and possibly your attitude!) and is loosely defined as those periods when the ground is frozen. (Just don’t expect that with a side of snow unless you are in the mountains!) The time of year you northerners call “winter” is divided into “post fall” (which begins when the leaves finish falling) and “pre-spring” (which ends when the daffodils come up, or after the last hard freeze, i.e., “winter”, depending on who you ask. Opinions vary.) The changeover between “post fall” and “pre-spring” is determined by the groundhogs at the start of February. Of course, none of this makes sense in Pennsylvania where Phil lives, so they had to simplify it to six more weeks of winter or an early spring.
I’m so excited! I spent several days trying to find a vet in our area who gives Purevax rabies vaccine, since that’s what our previous vet recommended and what our two have had since they were born. I finally found one! The only drawback is they only see one animal at a time, so I have two appointments on the same day. I’ll try to catch Miss Pookie Poo first because she’s the escape artist, then grab Tommy for the second appt. I hope he isn’t spooked by Pookie leaving in the carrier, or I might not be able to catch him for the p.m. visit. And I can go in with them, which is great since they are afraid of everyone except my husband and me.
Here in Las Vegas, one of our TV news casters mentioned that we don’t need no “stinkin’ hedgehogs”, because we have Mojave Max the Desert Tortiose who only comes out of his den once Spring is ACTUALLY approaching. I totally LOL’d!!!

As performed by The Captain and Tennille: Muskrat Love
Groundhog, Groundhog, first daylight
Waking from sleep and greeting his friends after evening
Find out the season
Punxsutawney Phil awakes
Prognosticating spring is early or late
Faces aglow….Puck doesn’t think so!
…….
Bea and Tommy all anticipation,
Elvis loves the situation
Looking at the clouds above
But Puck doesn’t love.
…….
Nibbling on bacon, chewing on cheese
Waiting with hedgehogs and chickadees,
Even our Elvis seems to be pleased, we can hear it
Puck can’t get into the spirit,
And he’s feeling so sad, heaving a sigh
Wanting to join his friends, he wants to try
Maybe later
…….
Bea and Tommy all anticipation,
Elvis loves the situation
Looking at the clouds above
But Puck doesn’t love.
