I had a friend in SCA whose favorite Medieval character was the village idiot. He was one of those folks who went all in during costumed events. A local TV station news guy interviewed him, and he stayed in character to the end when the reporter asked him what he did in real life. “I’m a college professor.” And he really was.

Some awards just aren’t worth much….

Back in 1967 (another time when the world seemed to have gone mad), a fellow named Joachim Foikis declared himself the Town Fool of Vancouver, BC. The Mayor was not amused, but the Vancouver Tourist Board thought he might be a tourist attraction:
