I wish Tiffany would try to get an internship in Paris. I’m afraid, unfortunately, that the Evanses have decided to make the Luannhaters happy by putting Tiffany into the spare room in the DeGroot house. This will enable Tiffany to act just like Ann Eiffel toward Luann, and those who hate Luann will enjoy it a lot. When that happens, I will just give up on this ‘toon. I know no one here will miss me, but I will be sorry to stop reading ’Luann’. But I didn’t like Ann Awful bullying Tiffany and I won’t like Tiffany bullying Luann. Bullies are disgusting wastes of oxygen, and those who cheer them on should be the ones that the bullies attack next…

    Ah, I KNEW it!

I Knew the first place Tiffany would head for would be the Gulag. And everybody can relax, Tiffany doesn’t want to stay there. But that means that it is HIGHLY likely that Tiffany will stay at the DeGroots. At least for the Summer until school opens again.

But now, there are two problems.

    1) What will Luann think about having Tiffany as a roommate? I cannot imagine that she’s going to be happy about it. And she’s going to be even less happy with her mom for letting it happen.

    2) Tiffany’s leaving her dad’s house means Ann has won yet another a battle.

UNLESS, These two guys can help. For all of their “faults” Tiffany is now with two guys that care about her. H3LL, these guys probably care more for her than Tiff’s retched father does. I kidded around that Sunday’s Strip featuring Gunther and Les was foreshadowing things to come. Besides, Bets the lads are arguably the best friends Tiffany has right now.

And Just think. Tiffany dropping by the Gulag to get away from Ann or Luann. Luann dropping to get away from Tiffany. Bets just dropping by. All We need now is the Coupon Lady and Tara dropping by, and the lads will finally have a swinging bachelor pad!

Speaking of Bets, is about time she DID drop by Gulag. It seems highly likely that Tiffany’s “best friends” are about to be drawn into her drama.

How is Gunther insisting that Leslie clean up after himself in any way comparable to Ann demanding that Tiff wait on her like a servant and then give her a foot rub?

If Tiff is unable to discern the difference between folding a dish cloth and fetching drinks for and thereafter rubbing the feet of a person who hates her I give up all hope for Tiff.

Before you can get a clue, you first must be able to understand what a clue is.

How would Tiffany GET to paris? That wouldn’t be a a cheap flight plus where would she live once she got there? She had to sell everything she had. She can’t get the money from dad or *cringes Ann. Knowing Tiffany, she’d probably resort to standing on a street corner before asking Ann for money.

And now, for anyone that still cares:

I stopped looking at the survey when total comments Saturday reached 500. And it was 500, on the nose, which I thought was kind of odd, as well. I haven’t gone back to see the final count.

As for ”yea” vs. ”nay,” I think there were 43 ”yea” (had enough of Ann). There were five comments under ”nay,” but I’m thinking that only one actually said, ”let it play out” – knowing who the others were, I’m pretty sure they meant ”yea” (had enough of Ann) but simply marked the wrong thread. That was probably my fault for not making the threads clearer.

The big surprise was well over 100 comments under my explanation of the survey. And no, I don’t think I saw a single comment complimentary of Ann. But there were numerous duplicate entries, so I don’t want to just add these comments to the ”yea” column.

Knowing that, of the 500 comments, there are usually even more duplicates (people commenting more than once, often saying the same thing), that becomes the real challenge of interpreting the data:

How many unique people commented that day vs. the number of unique people who voted that they had had enough of these Ann Eiffel arcs.

Considering that I only saw one comment in response to the survey that said ”let it play out” and, for the rest of the day, maybe one or two others who appear to like Ann Eiffel, other than that, I’d say we have a pretty good preponderance of ”had enough of Ann Eiffel.”

The question now is, how to get this to G&K.

Not that they are bound whatsoever to our wishes.

But it would be nice for them to know how we feel.

Everyone things that Luann is going to hate Luann having Tiff move in to the guest room and that Tiff will be a total bully to Luann. But I’m going to be the oddball her and think that maybe the two will finally be able to bury the hatchet here.

Luann was willing to help Bernice and Delta cheer Tiff up when she was depressed and Tiff was willing to help Luann and Delta get their money back from the scam. After knowing what kinda person Ann is after hearing what Brad and Bernice went through and trying to be an empathic person, I’m sure Luann would be willing to help.

If we’re lucky, we might actually get some character growth out of Luann and continued redemption for Tiff.

Les likely knows about the extra room at DeGroots. He could tell Tiffany that Nancy has already had a preview of what being around Ann Eiffel is like – and Nancy is likely to be sympathetic. I don’t believe Luann will have a major objection to giving Tiffany a chance at the DeGroots. Luann has already shown some sympathy when Tiffany was shut down in her dorm gaining weight. Now Luann could show growth and intelligence by being kind to Tiffany, but at the same time, setting Tiff straight if she cops attitude.

Tiff? I am wondering why you can’t say “no” to Ann? Let’s practice…“No, Ann. I am not your servant. I am Tom’s daughter and I have the right to live here and not to serve you. You said you fired the house staff. You need to call them back because I am not doing that.” Pause for effect. “That’s OK if you go to my dad and whine. I will say the same thing I am saying to you now.” You can do it. Don’t be a wimp. Stand up to her. Just because she beat you at your game back then doesn’t mean you have to forever submit to her.

Are sonograms dated or marked somehow to indicate when it was taken? Maybe the sonogram is of Shannon, who Ann had out of wedlock when she had an affair with Shannon’s Dad. And I agree with most. This Ann arc is way too played out. Tiff’s dad is overplayed and a real dummy not to see what’s going on. Ann needs to go into the sunset being totally exposed for what she is. And I agree that Tiff needs to grow a pair and not become Ann’s slave.

However, it’s so obvious that she’s going to end up at the DeGroot’s that they might as well just skip to that part.

On our opinions it is kind of presumptuous of the readers to try to poll the comic creators to change the comic to fit their preferences. Plus the very number of the comments on the blog during anything involving Tiffany and Ann evinces huge levels of interest, even if ostensibly negative. I am of the opinion that overall Greg is expanding the comic into the kind of issues that young adults have to confront in making their own lives, and I have said that the main characters, with the exception of Brad and Toni, who have excellent, loving parents, with Nancy being a tiger mom at heart, have either only one parent, the other being gone somehow, or other issues relating to their backgrounds. TJ is a prominent character, whose morality is challenged, but who has morphed into a loving, caring, friend of Brads’ and Toni, but whose background includes father who had issues with the law, and a mother whose fate or whereabouts is questionable. This is a long game, and any temporary discomfiture is ultimately frustrating.

Something suspicious has been going on for some time now in the strip. Follow me here…

    • Luann arcs have been in the doldrums since forever..

    • Tiffany had to move out of her luxury, year-round apartment into student housing.

    • Tiff forced into moving home due to summer session closure? Flunking out? Or ???

    • Suddenly Pru exits the strip for flimsy reasons, opening a room at the DeGroots.

It’s been a slow (but deliberate?) process to isolate Tiff and portray Luann in need of a friend, frenemy, BF …

    Questions:

Are GnK on a glidepath to a Luann-Tiffany link up via Pru’s old room. If so, a sort of Gulag West will ensue. Hilarity will ensue to 1212’s delight (an us too). Will Frank and Nancy be assigned to roles of referees? 8^ )

Take my ideas with the notion that I have not had any coffee nor a pipe….

    1. I am glad Tiffany seems to be exploring other living options.

    2. I am glad that Tiffany is NOT enamored with living with the Unger/Madison duo at this time.

    3. I believe Tiffany now appears destined for the DeGroot abode…… but I am hoping that if this comes to pass, that Tiffany does not return to her “mean girl” high school roots via this living arrangement, but instead, it becomes a pathway for further growth and development for both Tiffany and Luann….. both could benefit from a bit more self-awareness and planning and developing and pursuing goals. Perhaps they can both foster this in each other? As many of noted since the college years have started…. Tiffany and Luann ARE in many ways more similar than people first thought.

    4. I am glad that we have a bit of time away from the Tom/Ann dynamic. I still feel over-saturated with “Ann-iness” at the moment. I would like at least a month to pass before we revisit her if possible.

    5. Neatness (like shown in Gunther) is a virtue. But, it is a virtue I have damn well never had. Still, I can appreciate it…. and I learned that my own “Madison-like” slobbiness can benefit from being around a neat-nik. Les could make his own life a lot easier, by following some of Gunther’s ideas…. folding a dish towel doesn’t take but a moment….. and by placating that need in Gunther, Gunther is going to be inspired to do more and more of the “detail work” which ends up making day-to-day easier for Les in a bunch of ways.

At this point, Bets walks in and Tiff explains to her what’s going on, while keeping both the boys on a short leash. Then she suggests to make the most out of the situation by creating a secrete video channel and having Tiff video and talk about her experiences. This also serves the purpose of getting Ann to spill the beans in an arrogant way to Tiff because it’s all about power and control. Ann wants to be in control of all the power and money. In turn, as Bets and Tiff, along with Les and Gunther’s help, creates a series of videos that paint the picture of how Tiffany feels and is being exploited by her soon to be step mother. At which point, with various uploads and creating a HUGE cash flow, this will create a pickle for dear old Dad. Does he sue to shut down Tiff’s channel which is an entrepreneurial success or does Ann give him an ultimatum that she will sue Tiff into non-existence if he does not hand over a good chunk of his fortune?

I like that this arc dovetail’s on yesterday’s (sunday) strip. Someone mentioned The possibility of Irma and Al stepping in. Once Ann and Tom are married, Tiffany will become a stepdaughter to Ann and then Al would be her step uncle. Given that she will be ‘family’, they might want to make some arrangement for her. Both Al and Nancy at this point would be equally sympathetic to Tiff’s situation (both are now intimately acquainted with Ann’s negative attributes); it’s a toss up. But we don’t need to rule this possibility out.

Not that I really want another month of this arc but I feel like there have been a lot of loose ends that have either been forgotten about or put off for too long. What happened to Tiffany’s situation at school, both financially and academically? Can she not return because she’s flunking out? Does this spell the end of her academic career? If she was so short on money why did she blow it all at a clothing store? (I know she’s not practical but that scene at the box store begged for context that never came.) Does her waitressing job, which was originally supposed to be raking in the tips, no longer cover a shared dorm room? And if she’s destined to become part of the de Groot household what was the point of setting up the entire situation with a new roommate? The one good thing about Raggedy Anne (I’ve forgotten her name) is that she, as well as her boyfriend, were actually new people that Tiffany met at Moony, rather than Tiffany constantly latching on to people she knew (often not even former friends) from high school. Add all this to the one note relationship with her evil soon-to-be stepmother and this feels like an ill thought out storyline.

I remember Bets saying she might have a solution for rooming for Tiffany, but then that went no further. We know Bets has been helpful to Tiffany before, and wants to as to Tiffany’s school work. I would like to suggest another reason, there is no way she is letting any female anywhere near Gunther, certainly not in the Gulag. Nope. no way. So I think the Bets solution might be just as possible as the DeGroot one, and would be a win for Tiffany in so many ways. Just a thought.

Let me see, Tiff moves in without knowledge of landlords. Gunther complains to Bets, who says just leave and move in with me. He does, leaving Tiff and Led as cottage mates. Mr. And Mrs Gray are not pleased..Or not.

    Okay.

About this “Tiffany living under the same roof as Luann,” business.

Tiffany will not bully Luann. Tiffany has NEVER “bullied” Luann event though Tiff has tricked and humiliated her in the past. So don’t worry about THAT. The thing We should be concerned about is that Lu and Tiff have gotten into Knock Down drag out FIGHTS.

    Case in point:

Yeah, I know that was back in High School. Yeah I know that the girls have grown up a bit. But then, there’s this:

“We’re not exactly pals.” That says it all. Do you really think that these two ladies NEED to be under the SAME roof with each other? Argy, and I have had our differences in the past (Lord Knows) but I’m with HER on THIS one. Putting Tiffany with Luann is as BAD an idea as putting Gunther under the same roof with Les.

Gunther’s snippy behavior in the third frame probably reminded Tiffany of the way Gunther behaved the night Tiff had the dinner and dessert dates. So no go…

And so, she finally begins her search for a nice, small apartment.

Do something Tiff, if you can’t stand up to that ogre named Ann Eifffel. I’m getting sick and tired of you being powerless over Ann. You need the help of Les Knox to take her down.

I believe the rivalry between Tiffany and Luann stems from Tiffany’s jealousy over Luann having the kind of family she couldn’t have, despite having all that money at her disposal. And while Tiffany does need to get the heck out of her father’s house, I fear moving in with the DeGroots will cause Tiffany some emotional turmoil that she’s not ready to deal with on her own. She will need real therapy, not the kind Mrs. Fogarty was paid (by Tom and Ann, btw!) to give her.

But since her kids are grown up, Mrs. DeGroot still desires the need to mother someone. Tiffany needs real parents. Tom Farrell and Ann Eiffel can never fill that void.

We can hope Luann will not mind seeing her parents giving Tiffany the parental guidance she desperately needs.

And can you imagine the possible custody battle that could ensue if Tom sees his daughter living happily with another family?

I spent so much time going through the comments that it took me until now to realize that the punchline of the strip was that her description of Ann fit Gunther at that moment…

Gunther needs a medical procedure—-to remove the stick from his @$$. Tiffany, Luann, or bets needs to push Gunther onto a couch and just lay him—-maybe some sex will loosen him up. I realize going to peru helped him some but he’s still really high-strung.
