Way to go Dez! FINALLY the voice of REASON! Tiffany should listen to Dez and stay in school and get a Business Degree! THEN, after she graduates, she can Cosmetology, Fashion design, whatever.

Plus, Guess what? Tiffany will finally have something to talk to her father, (a successful businessman) about! He can’t help but be proud of that daughter is following in his footsteps!

And if she needs more business inspiration, she can always contact Simone of Souffle or even Businessman Al Gray. Even former manager Evil Ann could serve as an example of what NOT to do.

And if Tiffany has problems with math, there’s always Gunther.

I’m not one to see silver linings in dark clouds, but damned if I don’t suddenly see one here.

One more thing. Bernice should IMMEDIATELY give up the idea of being a “Counselor” and become a Librarian, where she can’t do any more damage.

    Dez, SHOULD be a Counselor!

I’m cringing, somewhat, over a potential daily Tom and Ann and Tiffany at home setup. I hope she doesn’t go over to the Dark Side and take business advice from her step mom.

Oh well. It is but to wait and see.

Right Bernice. Tiffany tells you she’s feeling frustrated with failing with career goals because A) Nobody really believed in her. And/or B) Someone threw roadblock in her way. So you immediately say counseling. But counseling would only deal with the frustration. It wouldn’t fix the problem. Besides, who would she go to for counseling? You? You’re the one who just ’B’ed her. Luckily, Dez needs only to hear 10 seconds of dialogue to find the practical solution.

Bernice, you might reconsider your career path. You are not doing too well in counseling so far. Dez, on the other hand, is born for that career. Tiffany, you can stay at Moony and get a business degree so you could OWN a business rather than work for some corporation. If you go to comestology school, you’ll only learn trade skills and work for someone else. With a degree in business, you can be self-employed and financially independent. Try to reach the hidden pocket inside your brain to get that bulb lit.

Dez, tell Bernie to quit being a little tin plated bureaucrat and maybe try to help Tiff with this. Yeah it’s against Bernie’s precious rules but maybe she could figure out a way Tiffany could still do this on campus. She knows things haven’t been rosy for Tiff but instead of being helpful, she suggests something that Tiff has already said she did. The look on Bernice’s face on panel #1 says it all. Seig Heil!

As usual and as always, Dez, without a psychology degree, out-counsels the “counselor” who is now suggesting Tiffany go get counseling. Everyone has written this before, it’s Bernice who needs the major change (warden, perhaps?). She is absolutely no gd good at counseling.

As an MBA, I must say that the cost of the degree is NOT worth it…unless you’re going for specific disciplines like Accounting, Business Information Systems or Operations Management. But, Tiffany’s skills and contacts are guiding her towards business. A Bachelor’s degree in business could add to her current skill set for a solid foundation to start making her own money.

At last! Dez will be the voice of reasoning. But will Tiffany listen? And yet a business degree isn’t the entire answer? She also needs cosmetology certification. Actually she could probably take and pass the skills test right now. I’m sure there are some things she needs to learn such as the chemistry of hair products and skincare products but she could easily learn all that. She needs both skill sets to have the business she wants. But this is a start!

So, first I have to admit I have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, and I feel a bit grouchy, and have had no coffee nor pipe. So, I admit that my perspective may be a bit skewed, but:

    1. I have found Tiffany’s responses “aka I QUIT” to be rather off putting and annoying.

    2. To bail part way through a semester of college that is already paid for and to dump on your living arrangements that are already paid for to….. go home and live with Dad (and Ann)…. yeah, that makes a helluva lot of logical sense in terms of making your life situation better.

    3. I realize that Tiffany is upset about the “nail salon” shutdown… but she is very literally making her own life HARDER by her response to the shutdown.

    * * * *

    4. Thank goodness Dez actually has come into this story as a voice of reason. If Tiffany really would like to do this “Mani/Pedi” stuff as a carreer and not just as an employee, Dez is absolutely right that she should be a business major (as I and many others had suggestsed). There has been NO indication that Ann nor TomCat were changing her finances in regard to college, so Tiffany should be smart and take advantage of what that can offer her.

    5. Everyone is dumping on Bernice at the moment. But, you need to put this in perspective…. yeah, Bernice wants to become a trained counselor…. and she has been giving legitimate advice through all this (it is not what Tiffany wants to hear, but it is accurate)…. but the BIGGER issues is that Bernice IS CURRENTLY an RA, and it is her responsibility and her job (paying her dorm fees, presumably) to uphold the University’s rules. Running a business as busy as Tiffany’s was appearing…. would not be something any RA would be able to “let slide”. So, I think Bernice has been doing a pretty decent role at bridging her RA duties, her friendship, and even her efforts to be a counselor.

Dez should be MD, I agree on everything you said, but Bernice could learn to be a counselor, but the difference is that Dez is a naturally gifted people person, while Bernice needs to get over her value judgments, and inability to think outside the box (sorry for the trite saying, but it fits).

She retired at 55, sold all 9 salons, and spent the next ten years traveling while we REALLY SMART people counted down to Social Security.

This reminds me so many students I encounter in my late life community college career. At the age that Tiffany and her fellow Luannverse characters have feelings of low self-esteem, caused by internal factors, and external ones—like those she has mentioned, from failing with her Dad, to failing at anything she has tried—are one of the biggest issues that they face. In my urban environment campus everything from parents in the penitentiary, to fear of pregnancy from very autocratic, conservative parents and family situations, to economic factors, to simply dealing with life and all it’s challenges come crashing down on these new young adults. And that is just a tiny bit of the situations that they contend with. Lets not talk about drugs, or coercive social media. One of the best things our system has done, and it has been very successful, are Wellness Centers. There whole purpose is to help students do what is necessary to learn to deal better with these challenges so that they can get to their goals, and not let them stop them in their tracks. Colleges, from Harvard, to Happy Valley Community College have similar counseling, advising, Wellness centers. In Luannverse its Dez though, and that is fine too. Lots of times fellow students can be very, very therapeutic. I hope that is an outcome of this arc that Tiffany can embrace. Tiffany being a Mistress of the Universe? Seems possible.

Unless your wish is to be a corporate drone skip the business degree and go for what you want to do. Learn that and then you can pick up the few classes that are relevant to your business needs. Most of the classes that you have to take are fluff meant to make money for the collage. And Tiff, go read. Read books on business written by people who are business people to learn about business. Read the great books to learn a wide range of cultures and thought. Read biographies to learn what other people went through. Heck read a cheap novel. I have yet to pick up a book that did not teach me something. Even if it was only what not to do.

Her father is not only ignoring her, but he’s also allowing a scheming, gold-digging con artist to control her life. She can’t have a moment’s peace without thinking about Ann Evil, and it doesn’t help that she has no money to spend.

Counselling??? PLEASE…!!! Her father and Ann have been making her see a counsellor: Mrs. Fogarthy, of all people. She’s nice, but not competent.

Maybe Des can offer her some hope. Let’s hope…

Dez’s word balloon has the best message I’ve seen since my last birthday balloon. Business school is okay. She could major in marketing because what she has, she could really sell. If not, she should find herself a smart, hard working Chaldean who already owns his own store or two. He may well invest in her enterprise and show her the ropes like no one else can. He would also supply her with a 45 cal. hand gun, and have his daughter show her how to use it.

I haven’t read all of the comments so someone else may have already pointed this out, but…..all of the suggestions about Tiff getting a cosmetology degree and/or a business degree are all well and good. And I hope Tiff listens to Dez and doesn’t drop out of school. But all of that is for a distant, nebulous future.

Tiff needs/wants money NOW! Money she can spend without having to answer to Ann. Maybe she should get licensed as a manicurist and go to work somewhere, although I doubt she’d earn enough to maintain the lifestyle she’s used to. But at least she’d have more pocket money than $2.22.

Of course someone would have to pay for the cosmetology degree/license, and who would do that? Daddy? He may not want to, since he’s already paying to keep her at Moony. And if he DID decide to spring for it, and Tiff got a job, then would Ann convince Tom to cut Tiff’s allowance even more since Tiff’s earning a little money on her own?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that would happen.
