Please, don’t do this in real life unless you want to experience dehydration and possible heatstroke .

Lo and behold, Clark County, Washington is experiencing a heat wave. Lewis County voice mailed me to remember to stay hydrated and all those other precautions. While I currently live in Clark, why would I need to know that from Lewis?

Drinking alcohol REDUCES the amount of water available to your body (water is used up handling it). And, by the way, drinking iced water actually causes your body to spend calories to heat it up. This may actually make sense as a minor addition to a diet, but it’s a bad idea if you’re out in the heat: Drink cool to room-temp water to hydrate. And if you’re sweating profusely, use Pedialyte or Gatorade or some such.

Timely comic: Most of the west of the U.S. and Canada are under a extreme heat warning. Even here in Edmonton we are about to experience record high temperatures for several days.

Pastis can apparently see the future, considering he turns these in about 6 months in advance, and today through Monday are supposed to be record highs (111° or more) here in the Pacific Northwest.

Rat should hang out with Steve Dallas from Bloom County instead of Pig and Goat. They both have quite similar personality traits (mostly negative) including the excessive binge drinking except I do not think rat smokes cigarettes which Dallas does (or should I said did as the strip is currently in the mid ’80s in the time of Reagan).

“The Elks, on the other hand live up in the hills, and in the spring they come down for their annual convention. It is very interesting to watch them come to the water hole. And you should see them run when they find it is only a water hole. What they’re looking for is an Elk-o-hole.” — Groucho Marx as Captain Spaulding, Animal Crackers, 1930
