I don’t read this stuff to become annoyed. The whole summer not featuring the road trip at all was annoying and possible story selections are boring.

Other commentors have alluded to this arc is about hook-ups; (agree), not so much about Bernice’s attempt to gain insight into people’s by-the-book psyche as Luann is imagining. But there is psychology involved. Mind games.

Interesting. With Nil and Jack, Luann was mocking Bernice’s project. But as soon as Les started insinuating Bernice wanted to do something weird, Luann started defending both the project and her BFF. Luann is really a good friend and Les is still an egocentric slimeball. Luann’s faith in Bernice is so touching that it makes you hope this isn’t that kind of project and Les isn’t totally right about Bernice’s intentions. However, it’s clear now that all participants know this is a project. But what Bernice is searching is still a mystery.

I’m thinking (at this point) that Luann’s responses to each person (so far) are mostly spontaneous, that what has gone on between her and Nil, Jack and Les, respectively, reflect (1) quirky fun, (2) true attraction and (3) dislike, and that these are her honest feelings about each.

This project is clearly about observing social interactions in an ambiguous environment

I know this is a comic and intended to be for fun, I just wonder what sort of information Bernice could be getting since everyone she is observing knows they are being watched. Clearly with the first two, Luann was messing with Bernice.

I don’t think Les is being sleezy at all. He asked valid questions about why Bernice made him meet with Luann and what the psycho study was all about. He didn’t come on to her at all. Luann is the one who got all uppity indignant and jumped to conclusions (making an a$$ out of herself in the process). Les isn’t even fazed. He can spot a neurotic virgin a mile away.
