Today’s strip excellently portrays the two sides of Calvin – the mature, poetic side and the childlike side with a taste for both the gross and the grotesque.
I loved the strip when Calvin said that he made “bug butter” just to gross out Susie! My coworker and I loved Calvin and Hobbes back circa 1991. Every Monday we’d photocopy and pin up said copy on our bulletin board. I had such a crush on her! Then she got transferred. Deep ouch.

Calvin! Would you like it if someone stared at you while you were having lunch?

Nature is icky. Stay away from it.

That’s a very well crafted poem with scansion and rhyme and everything. I bet Watterson really enjoyed creating this strip!

I don’t know which is uglier: cobwebs or those “curtains” of gray moss that drape over oak branches in the American South.

Shame on you, spider! Why didn’t you invite Calvin to join you??

To be or not to be….oooh glistening web, thou art a work of beauty, and he comes to praise him, not to intrude on his disgusting eating habits!

If he’d only turned in poetry like this to Miss Wormwood…. she’d see he’s on the level of Richard Armour.

I’m surprised that Calvin’s response to bug-sucking is a negative one. You’d think he’d be calling over Suzy in his enthusiasm!
