I think their scheduled by the same guy who schedules the Russian car plants. 10 years out but he knows the exact hour it will roll off the production line

Yep. If anybody could be, they’re the ones who WOULD be late for their own funeral. Of course, they’re ALSO the ones who constantly provoke people to the point where, someday, someone is going to snap when they finally DO get there.

Karma would say that it was the corpse which would have to wait.

This is not just an issue with cable companies. I recently had to wait over a month (including 1 rescheduling) to have my A/C serviced.

Surprisingly enough, the cable guy came EXACTLY on time last week. Scheduled for 12-2, I think he arrived at 11:58, and knocked on the dore 2 minutes later.

Well the job is appears to be less work than in the past. Guy installed cable to son’s house. Son asked why it was running across the yard instead of buried in a conduit. Guy said they didn’t do that anymore. Son asked who he should call when family cars broke it where it ran across their gravel driveway and front walk. No answer.

Let us all blame the workers in any business who left to find living wages plus benefits and without the forced overtime – often without OT pay – and not the management who will not replace those workers because all the suckers caught onto them and yet management continues to overbrook calls but now with only 45 to 55% of the needed staff

Here in Spain, when you ask for a plumber, electrician etc they use the word “Mañana” which in this case doesn´t mean tomorrow, it just means “Not today”!

In 2000, I had cable thru TimeWarner. I had to go out of country on a 40 day business trip and made sure to pay my cable bill before I left. I returned and thee service had been cut off. Long story short, they credited the wrong account and we parted ways after a correction.6 years later, I tried to sell my house and TWC and filed a lien against it for non payment. After two months of trying to even contact people, I paid the lien (that means I paid the bill twice, with interest, their mistake, my money) and finally got to sell the house. No cable ever again.

We’ve had two instances of no show for people who were to do work in our house recently.

One was from someone who was to inspect our heating system. He said he was about 30 minutes out. When he did not arrive an hour later, we were concerned and called the company. They called us back and told us that right after he called us, he got a call from his wife telling him she was in labor. We rescheduled the appointment.

In another incident, we were supposed to have some people come to clean the house. We could see their car at the top of our long driveway. Between us was a coyote who apparently had something wrong with it. It was wondering around and would not get out of the way of their car. Dusting and vacuuming were within their job description. Wrestling rabid coyotes was not.

Animal control eventually got the beast. We rescheduled that appointment too.

I hate my cable company. Years back I decided to drop the television, leaving the phone and internet. That was on Friday. In sub-zero weather they came and disconnected, having to shovel a path through the snow to get to the box. That was on Sunday afternoon just a few hours before the start of the Super Bowl.

I thought that the cable guy not arriving on schedule was simply an American trope. However, after living here in Ecuador for the past 10 years, I can attest to the universality of cable repairmen never arriving on time! ( And one of my stepsons works for the Cable company!! )

When we moved here, the cable guy (never female or ungendered) was on time. All he did was connect his meter and verify there was a signal. The modem/router arrived a day later and I installed it myself.

Since my cable company also provides my internet service, I particularly enjoy phoning in when there is a internet service interruption to be told by the automated voice that I can report my service interruption online at their website.

Finally got fed up with the cable company raising the rates every year on my Internet connection, and when I got the bill this month raised $7 from the previous, I switched to Fiber from a different provider for $35 less a month and 50% more bandwidth. Now I’m getting letters from the cable company to switch and get a $500 signing bonus. This is a broken business model.

Management used to deliberately overbook “cable guys” and other service people. For some reason, they thought the joy of getting an appointment soon would make up for having to reschedule twice. Most reputable companies have realized customers don’t have wives or house-husbands sitting around at home anymore.
