Hey, if the bite of a horse fly hurts, then something that can bite through the hide of a dragon must hurt even worse.

“Dragonflies are predatory insects, both in their aquatic nymphs stage (also known as naiads) and as adults. In some species, the nymphal stage lasts for up to five years, and the adult stage may be as long as ten weeks, but most species have an adult lifespan in the order of five weeks or less, and some survive for only a few days "

From the perspective of an ant, they are dragons

“Devil’s darning needles” … and if you’re a bad little person and tell lies, then they will SEW YOUR LIPS TOGETHER! (was what we learned in OUR family)

I grew up to love how the look, how they hover, and particularly that there are so many beautiful variants!

Lucy might want to worry about whether that is a snapping turtle…

And Danae may not wish to mention snapdragons anytime…

    Isn’t that spelled/pronounced as “To-may-to, to-mah-to”?

    Well listen, someday

You’ll hear a rush of wings

So distant, a sound of secret things

There, look there, up in that rusty sky

    Yonder, sweeps the dragonfly

So awesome, he blocks the setting sun

He’ll come to collect the souls of everyone

Yet another insect name that confuses me. The dragonfly is neither dragon nor fly. Just like the butterfly. The construct of the matrix is puzzling sometimes. Proof that common sense is uncommon.

We have several species of dragon flies in my neighborhood. Some of them are really weird looking. I don’t mind too much. Along with the frogs and bats and insectivores like our local possum, they keep the bug population at bay.

A favorite event was witnessing a termite colony flying en masse and the sudden appearance of at least a dozen dragonflies.

My bestest buddies as I hike the local trail. I’d have a squadron of them every time I get attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. Great air cover. Sometimes they land on my hat or shoulder to take a break.

Just for the record, Dragonflies are benevolent. They feed on mosquito larvae.

I have them in the yard. They’re beautiful. I’ll betcha DD Wiz doesn’t have any Dragonflies in his garden.

My late loving wife and I had 2 Chihuahua’s, a few years ago when the female was in the backyard a dragonfly landed on her back. She was just frozen in place until it flew away. It was so funny for us, not for her.

Dragonflies are pretty fierce and amazing when you can look at them for a minute. They move pretty fast. Here’s a picture of one that I saw in Texas. It has broad-striped wings.

First Lucy is afraid to cross a tiny little creek for fear of alligators. Now she hides in a pond for fear of dragonflies. Guess she forgot about the gators. Would be a really hilarious time for Danae to remind her of that. (ever see a horse levitate?) :-)))
