However, Lupin’s “ding ding ding” might start to drive the other good boys and girl, completely nuts after a short time. And how about the midnight crazies, running races? The People might reconsider.
We had a belled cat once. Chessie was a Fearless Hunter (the last of our cats to be indoor/outdoor), very energetic, and had very little self-preservation instinct as a young cat, so the bell was hoped to provide warning for the yard critters and give us notice that there was a cat in the area. While the gifts on the patio did decrease, what was much more noticeable was the dingalingalinga that carried through the house FAR better than the normal kitty stampede sounds. I don’t remember how long the collar was on, long enough for the nickname Dingaling to take root, at least, but it was not a long term accessory.
Our black cat is just like Lupin. I can look and look and call and call. Then I say to Hubs, I can’t find that cat and Hubs will say, he’s right behind you. I spin around….and there he is! Sly little trickster!
I desperately need to know if this happened in real life! Soon it will be “Is that our clock or is Lupin on top of the fireplace?” This is just the thing to transform Lupin from tiny horse to tiny reindeer, although he might make enough noise for a whole fleet of sleigh-pullers. The commenter who suggested Lupin would learn the wrong lesson, on the other hand, seems to be right.
Usually in cartoons it is the mice trying to put the bell on the cat. Though in BCN world the mice have nothing to fear from the cats, much to Gent’s dismay.
OT: I wonder if any of you cat lovers are also puzzle people? We would like to put puzzles together, but the cats would knock everything off the table (as is their right). Anyone know about a good portable puzzle keeper or anything? Thanks for the help if you can!
Sounds good for an indoor cat. Not so good for outdoor cats. Birds don’t know what the bell means, but pugnacious cats figure it out pretty quickly. They can find your little ding-dong, when she’s trying to hide or run home.
When we bought a card table it had a piece of cardboard packaging that covered the whole top. I saw that and immediately realized it would keep the cats off a puzzle in progress. It means keeping the card table up until the puzzle is done but it works for us. A piece of cardboard the right size would probably work for you. Put some contac paper on it to spruce it up and weigh it down with a couple of decorative rocks. What? Doesn’t everyone decorate with rocks?
Well, if I’m going to get my bell rung it’s better done by the Orb. I put a tiny bell on my deaf cat. She goes outside occasionally (former owners’ request) so I comply. My back yard is fenced with plenty of kitty hiding places. My dog who thinks she’s a cat keeps other critters away. Being out enriches rings kings day immensely. Dog likes a companion. Cat is black so bell helps us find her. Bell is useful inside too. When we hear it at night we know signaling is awake and exercising. She has partial cataracts too so when she moves she is navigating successfully. A win for everyone. The other cats ignore the ding.
Just what Puck, Elvis, and Goldie needed. Bet Tabitha and Sir Fig won’t be too thrilled either. Lupin already makes enough noise as is. So the Woman want’s to increase it with a bell? Now NO ONE WILL GET ANY SLEEPY!!!! Grouchy Puck will refuse all attention. Grouchy Goldie will attack Lupin regularly. Grouchy Elvis taking a swipe out of the Woman. The Man will be grumbling. The Boy and Girl will be extra grouchy at not getting any sleep. I’d say the only good thing is knowing when Lupin has just destroyed something, but 90% of the time when you hear something being smashed the culprit IS Lupin
O.T. Is anybody else here addicted to This Is Us? I cannot wait for this season to end. I’m not addicted because I like the show. There is not one character that I like. They are all whiny, self-centered, irritating enablers. A family that should have cut all ties to each other years ago. But it’s like a train wreck—I just have to watch to see what ridiculous thing will happen next. Okay, rant over, thanks for listening.

But if Lupin is asleep somewhere out of sight, the bell isn’t going to make any noise so it’s not going to help the People locate him.♥

Edgar Allan Poe: The Bells
See the kitty with the bell—Lupin’s bell
Something in his demeanor predicts
This won’t end well
Here the tinkle, tinkle, tinkle
Morning, noon, and night
While Puck reports the news and Elvis states his views
Lupin gazes with delight
At his brand new prize tonight
Hear the ring, ring, ring
As the chaos that it brings
With the tintinnabulation that makes us want to sing
Hear the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells bells!
…….
All throughout the Big Pink House you hear the bell!
With Lupin the game’s apaw, we all can tell
We all know where Lupin’s, been
But it causes such a din
While that tiny bell’s a-ringing
Wonder what Woman was thinking,
When she put on Lupin’s Collar
With the bell, bell, bell, bell, bell, bell bell!
…….
See the Woman now remove Lupin’s bell!
What she was ever thinking no one can tell
We all wonder in disbelief
But we all sigh with relief,
Tired of hearing that bell,
A sound straight from the pits of Heck
The silence is truly dear,
And now we do not have to hear,
That stupid bell, bell, bell, bell, bell, bell, bell!

He’s comin’ on like a hurricane

Puck and Elvis sigh, heck’s bells
Ow, ow, ow, ow
