If they can figure out how ancient Egyptians built pyramids, they are smarter than archeologists. Invite some archeologists over to make them feel stupid.

Wait until the mouse prophet demands that the leader of the gophers set its fellow mice free and Gail’s yard is beset by plagues like blood for water, swarms, storms, boils, darkness, and so on. Now THOSE are telltale signs of epic problems.

Have had years of mole and voles combining to kill new lawns. I don’t use broad spectrum pesticides, so it was an annual problem. In recent years blackbirds have nested nearby and are frequently seen feeding in the yards. Don’t know if they are eating the grubs, too, but the yellow circles are much smaller and fewer in number. Now if they could only sing like the wrens instead of a broken ’58 Ford muffler . . .

    Epic?

You get rid of the epic by finding and killing the director.

Surprised Wiley used “gopher”, just over the line here in NH we call them woodchucks. Persistent buggers who refuse any polite or “humane” means of deterrent. I have stories….

2 weeks ago there was a rodent on my front walk. I figured it was a "gift’ from my outside cat as it was nicely laid out. I couldn’t tell what it was. I kicked it aside when she wasn’t looking & 2 days later when then lawn people were there asked them to dispose of it. Later he told me it was a mole. I knew we had them as the holes were all over. So far no pyramids or slaves & drivers yet.

On occasion, there are comics where you sit back and wonder how the artist came up with the comic, and this is one of them for me. I am guessing Wiley must have a gopher problem and this somehow is the result. I have to admit to being a little jealous of the ability to draw in a manner that shows a little bit about the inner workings of ones mind.

As some of you know, I am a volunteer guide at a historic cemetery in Philadelphia. We have a large wildlife population—birds of prey, foxes, and especially groundhogs, whose holes tend to be about the size of a human foot. We guides are literally required by law to alert visitors to watch out for groundhog holes.

And though “my” cemetery has many monuments with an Egyptian motif, it has no pyramids. The (closed) cemetery across the street has a pyramid. And probably more groundhogs.

Interesting to see this comic today. I just had to hire an exterminator to get rid of the gopher(s) destroying my front lawn. I didn’t have any pyramids, but there were about 20 holes that appeared over the last three weeks. We need to get those Varmint Cong! (Caddyshack)
