…then trump complimented China on its handling of the virus and took the month of February off while telling us everything was under control.

Lisa, the official designation is COVID-19 virus, “COVID” being the group/type of virus, and “19” being the year it appeared to originate (2019). Being a bigot does nothing positive to either contain or treat the virus, nor to help anyone who has the virus. Calling it the “China Virus” is just a deflection from Trump’s delay in acknowledging it, his downplaying its seriousness or his actions withholding supplies from those who ARE doing something positive about it. You can worship the little man in the white house all you want, but at least be honest about what is happening to around the world.

Somehow this does not match what the rest of the world has seen. Actually only those in the resident’s fairy tale alt-reality seem to believe that the delay was not generated by the resident’s inability to accept and act on the advice and warnings some of which preceded the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 based on our previous experience with SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses.

    For example:

First off, it is Not a ‘China-virus’ , it is a Corona virus. And if you’d get rid of your MAGA hat, and look at some facts rather than going by donald’s tweets, you might be considered to be not cut from the same cloth as Dr. Goebbels.

I think “Trump virus” is more fitting. The virus may have originated in China but Trump single handedly made the the US have the highest number of cases and deaths in the world. Give credit where credit is due.

Are you tired of winning yet ?

Let’s say Trump and the Republicans are correct that China did not do what it should have done in warning the rest of the world about coronavirus. I am willing to concede that. It doesn’t change the fact that when the Trump administration did know about its dangers they did nothing other than do a halfway ending of travel from China to the United States. If Trump knew the virus was dangerous at that point he should have done FAR more than just end travel. Instead he delayed any further action for over a month. In fact, he repeatedly claimed that it was contained here in the United States when he had to know that wasn’t true. That is either stupidity or incompetence on his part.

This brilliant…/s Reich wing cartoon is based on what besides the prejudices and bigotries of the artist? The Angel of Death and his administration ignored warnings from U.S. intelligence services in November 2019 regarding a spreading highly infectious respiratory virus in China. His own intel. Totally and completely ignored. Because PINO Trump is an incompetent boob.

China did set the fire. But then Fire Chief Trump stood by and watched the building burn, only turning on the hose after the first floor was consumed (and now suggesting the hose be turned off since there isn’t any fire yet on the 5th floor.

In 2017, the White House’s National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense survived the transition intact. Its mission was the same as when the Obama administration established it after the Ebola epidemic of 2014: to do everything possible within the vast powers and resources of the U.S. government to prepare for the next disease outbreak and prevent it from becoming an epidemic or pandemic. One year later, the White House dissolved the office, leaving the country less prepared for pandemics like covid-19. The U.S. government’s slow and inadequate response to the new coronavirus underscores the need for organized, accountable leadership to prepare for and respond to pandemic threats. In a health security crisis, speed is essential. When this new coronavirus emerged, there was no clear White House-led structure to oversee our response, and we lost valuable time. Health systems are struggling to test patients and keep pace with growing caseloads. The specter of rapid community transmission and exponential growth is real and daunting. The job of a White House pandemics office would have been to get ahead: to accelerate the response, empower experts, anticipate failures, and act quickly and transparently to solve problems. It’s impossible to assess the full impact of the 2018 decision to disband the White House office responsible for this work, but it is clear that eliminating the office has contributed to the federal government’s sluggish domestic response. What’s especially concerning about the absence of this office today is that it was originally set up because a previous epidemic made the need for it quite clear. When asked about the slow roll-out of coronavirus tests in the U.S. on March 13, President Trump responded, “I don’t take responsibility at all.” Trump is not just responsible for the damage done in America. He owns it. The Trump Plague is not just his responsibility. It’s his fault.

China is getting a lot of flak for not being transparent about a lot of deaths.. I understand that in the US there are a lot of deaths in nursing homes that the government is not being very transparent about.. double standard??

I think there is likely some truth in this, but it’s far too simple and one-sided to be useful. In any event, who’s to blame is just a major distraction right now. The priority is finding solution(s) ASAP. And Trump’s withdrawal of funding from the World Health Organization is exactly the wrong thing to do. How stupid!

Its all China’s fault that Trump mishandled the virus in the USA and now it is out of control. Idiot Trump wants you to go back to work and get your ‘herd immunity’. Republicans think you’re a work animal.

China’s failure to permanently close down the wet/warm blood meat markets and trade in wild animal flesh after SARS in 2003 is why we have the Coronavirus outbreak. Do your petty political attacks after you get China to shut them down.
