I think landing on our guts is mandatory at our house. Round two includes tails across our nostrils. Then there is the popular human chest-finish line manuver.
So … let me get this straight. The two-yard dash is sort of like a hurdles event in that the cat is supposed to (gracefully) bounce across the bed, over the People but not hit the People?
On another topic, our apartment-sized chest freezer decided to give up the ghost. I was able to salvage most of the food and my daughter, bless her heart, jammed the rest into her freezer. Now, there’s another expense at the end of February: $200 – $300 on a new freezer (we didn’t need that)
Speaking of 2:00 a.m. cats…The kitten, Holly Berry, has a favorite thing now, it is to attack my feet that are under the covers. Little needle sharp claws are used, and she is determined to make sure the bed is safe from my feet. Yeah, I don’t understand kitten logic either.
it took me a little bit of thinking to determine that the mystery gold thing in the foreground of panel 5 (by the book) is the string & tassel from the bookmark.
In the last two panels it appears the owl lamp is missing from the nightstand. I believe one of the rules of the “running” is to knock over at least two lamps?
I’ve been away, because “overwhelmed”. But, I’m working my way back. (There’s a song there, isn’t there?)
Quick background, Bartok wasn’t well, and was 14. The raw food diet ultimately was AMAZING for him. I was, actually, able to wean him completely from prednisolone. I think I first tried it too soon, but could have tried again sooner than I did.
Taking him off pred saved the leg strength he still had. He adjusted to his limits, then proceeded to (literally!) climb the walls again!! I have many recent wonderful pics of him stretched out in his favorite “up high” nooks!
The face lump was NOT dental, although getting those abscessed teeth out was a good thing still of course. It was the cancer that was (apparently) asymptomatic for 2-3 years. Because it was in his sinus cavity, Vet said early operation would not have been successful, if even attempted. (IF I had $$ for a specialist, maaayyybeee? But, irrelevant. Wasn’t an option for Bartok.)
What I DID do, may have been quite helpful to his quality of life, though.
1) Oncior is a NSAID approved for short term use in cats. Around here, it is often used long term with good effects, though (from my vet, and the Pet pharmacist I used). Things like arthritis etc, respond well to it.
2) Gabapentin (generic Neurontin, NOT GABA supplement, unfortunately). I found reference to it helping with things like skeletal pain (ex. bone cancer), and was able to try it. After a few days, he was eating normally (he’d lost NO weight by the end!), playing, stalking in the grasses and basking full length in the sun again! As long as he was hungrily eating, and stretching out seemingly contentedly, out and part of the household, exploring outside (safe enclosure etc) with his brother Figs, I judged his life quality to be good. I watched so closely, because cats and pain are tough to judge!
Everything has limits, though. We are adjusting to 2 cats, from 3.
Our Russel, Every time he comes in to get his ‘fix of hooman’, when he pops onto the bed, he puts all 15 lbs into his front feet, and plants them firmly into my side Just under my ribs.
Either Lupin is still being affected by his beef with Goldie, or he has met his match as a true cat of adventure. I’ll go with the robber mice on this one: Gasp! Boo!
Happy Groundhog Day! As we have not had winter here, yet, we don’t care what he does. Those of you who have had too much winter, please send some here.
More importantly, Happy Imbolc or Lady Day to those of that persuasion.
I wonder if there will be Cat Olympics-themed strips this summer, with all sorts of different events, and drama from the judges’ table? It would be timely…
The Man is lucky. It wasn’t Goldie who landed on his belly full force. Lupin, at least, is comparatively small. Of course, he makes up for that by being clumsy.
I had a power outage today. I’m not sure how long it lasted because it happened while I was sleeping. I woke up when my white noise machine went silent. I couldn’t tell what time it was and was too sleepy to get up and look at the battery powered clock in the kitchen. By the time I woke up, it was back on again.
I just discovered over on BCN, Georgia posted the 2019 Groundhog Day comic. I love the image of the Groundhog demanding coffee! https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2019/02/02?fbclid=IwAR1Nh-u5L_wStpulDpqQ2JSOO2e3OM420HF-HHYjTKIbt8jVAfRCCjKhVD0

I’m gonna run this race just right,
Showing my style and grace,
The Man and Woman will not know,
That there’s been a race!
I know Lupin’s fast and strong,
He’ll give it all he has to give,
Let the judges all decide,
The winner of the race!
…….
Let’s get physical! Physical!
My running is so lyrical!
And my finances are fiscal!
Let the Robber Mice decide, let them decide!
Let them judge the style points!
…….
Let’s get animal, animal!
Oh wait we are animals!
Felines at their very best!
Let’s do the 2 am run!
And have some fun!
Let’s do the 2 am run!
