H3LL, call your mom and have HER come pick you up! Anything is better than dealing with some attention seeker who puts you second, while insisting that you put HER first.

And when Bets calls and ask her what happened, give her that same “All or nothing” speech she hit you with last April when you first met.

Damn, I knew Bets was too good to be true. And liberation of Gunther didn’t even last a year. :(

You may not be good at posing, Gunther…but we would really like to see you put your foot down.

Bets is more involved with her phone audience than with Gunther – she’s addressing him, but not really talking to him – you have to set her straight Gunth or ditch her – sooner rather than later…

Ok. I can see where this arc is going to end. If you recall early on in their relationship, Gunther was all into his phone until Bets asked him whom he wanted to be with? I think at this stage, Gunther will be the one pointing this out to her and ask if he or “their fans” are more important? I can see that Bets is getting wrapped up into herself and not Gunther.

A wee bit off focus.

Bets put the damn phone down when you have Gun waiting for you.

Bets seems to have a following and she’s keeping them posted on this exciting event. Maybe Gunther doesn’t care about Bets’ ambition and he was too anxious to get in there if he can’t wait a few more seconds. Yesterday’s cartoon was more disturbing – where Bets gave Gunther the heave-ho.

She’s more stoked about her fan base. Too bad. This is not the perfect girl many thought she was.

Bets seems more concerned with keeping her “fans” happy, than she does spending time with and actually PAYING ATTENTION to Gunthie. He’s more like an accessory—-just something she needs to complete her costume, whatever look she’s going for.

MEthinks me sees a smartphone junkie. See sees her Samsung more than she sees/hears him. Bumpier times ahead?

This reminds me of Emmy Lou (comic strip), circa mid ’60s. She was so excited about the wonderful date she was on, she wanted it to be over so she could go home and tell her girlfriend about it.

Gunther might be starting to realize where her priorities are.

Please Greg – let us see Gunther have someguts and tell Bets to shove off. Maybe he should make sure he gives her one last good show for her stupid fans – and break up with her live and on the air in front of them.

Is she even listening? I’ll answer that for you: No.

Since they met on a dating app and had meeting date and Bets shared that she had bad luck with guys she met through the dating app, this led me to wonder if SHE was the problem. Not the guys. She probably did the same with her previous guys – too enamored with her fans and neglectful and disrespectful of the guys, like Gunther, who said they didn’t care to be videoed all the time for fans. And she set up the account for Gunther and herself immediately upon starting dating led me to suspect she already had a fan base and she simply changed the guy’s name.

Put away the phone, hypocrite.

Being way too critical here on Bets, clearly there is a problem with her addiction to social media, but I still think she is very much in love with and interested in Gunther. She is too carried away in the whole excitement of something they both are very interested in. It, social media, takes her away from the interpersonal nature of relationship for the artificial world of social media influence. Remember, there are two in this relationship, the internet followers are not part of it,, Gunther should have stepped up by now to tell her that either she refocuses or they are in danger of not continuing; I think she would suddenly realize what she is doing if he does, or did by now. This is not Peru, he does not have to go anywhere, but he does have to do something, if he can, and if he wants to continue this relationship the onus is on him here. Step up man, if she can understand that is a huge step forward for both of you, if she does not, then you will know it’s time to break off.

Apparently, there is a cure for social media addiction… Google it, Gunth!

Great! Usagi and Deku (and Chewbacca) are at the mangafest. Bets is really happy. But now her direct streaming is truly an obsession, even more important than the event itself. Gunther must enter her world and take her to the festival to have fun. But I admit that I understand her desire to records everything she sees during an exceptional event. I have the same problem with photos.

Recognize the warning signs, Gunther. You are nothing but a prop to her.

Again she cares more about her social media relationship than her relationship with Gunther. Change my mind @Trilogy

When is Luann gonna be in her own comic strip?

Isn’t this the same Bets that complained about Gunther being on the phone during a date?

Years from now she will not remember anything she did except by 2nd hand or she will just stare into her phone vacantly.

Bets can’t seem to separate her fantasy life from her real life when it comes to Gunther as a boyfriend. She seems to have a social life persona and “Gun” is just a fantasy man in it that she can play off. Not a good situation, Gunth. Time to put your five o’clock shadow back on and exhibit some assertiveness here.

When you’re at an exciting place, you can’t help but wander.

when will Gunther get tired of her video when ever they go anywhere.

And this is why I hate having cameras on cell phones. People are so interested in having a 3-inch picture/video that they’ll never actually watch that they completely miss the actual 360-degree experience that creates real memories to last a lifetime.

Bets is at an event with her boyfriend and can’t put down the phone long enough to notice what is going on around her. It’s all too common and you see it everywhere you go. It seems the zombie apocalypse has arrived in a way no one ever anticipated before.

This reminds me of photographing nearly any event; one misses the event.

I bet all of you are really hoping that Gunther and Bets break up this week, then Tiffany (after she fails to win over that Mooney U QB) steaks Jack away from Luann and when Luann begins to whine and cry about how unfair it is that Tiffany steals away boys she’s interested in and that she wished Aaron Hill didn’t move to Hawaii, that everyone—led by Bernice—forces Luann to start dating Gunther, which will lead to her eventually being forced to marry Gunther, thus trapping her in a miserable, loveless, sexually unsatisfying, abusive marriage to Gunther in which Gunther will beat up Luann every day when she begins to whine and cry how much happier she’d be if she was only married to Aaron Hill and how he would have provided for her instead of having to work at Weenie World with Gunther (she running the register, he cooking the weenies in the back) and getting to go to exotic places instead of staying at home every night with stick-in-the-mud Gunther.

However, Luann deserves a better fate than this. She deserves to be with Aaron Hill! If Luann was really smart, she’d immediately run away to Hawaii, reunite with Aaron Hill, run away with him to Mexico, get married to him and have a bazillion kids with him, thus living happily ever after. It’s Luann’s destiny to be with Aaron Hill! Do it, Luann! Do it before it’s too late!

It’s just as well. She’ll get way more followers if no one can see Gunther on their screens.

Bets going overboard on the SM broadcast for sure, but to those of you calling for him to break up with her remember his history: he will eat a pepper, drink a beer and take off with a bus load of senior ladies. Might be better off with a good looking young girlfriend who just needs to pull it in a notch.

As for me:

Bets has been a mystery from the get-go. On the one hand, her addiction to her cell phone – and her jealousy of Gunther on his – seem a rather “predictable” story line. This could have been done with any character, perhaps even a current character in the strip.

But G&K chose to create a new character, Bets.

Furthermore, G&K decided to go bi-racial with this new couple, all the while ignoring the natural sources of tension within such a relationship.

Not that bi-racial couples are uncommon these days, far from it.

But there is an awful lot of baggage that each will bring into it.

In addition to white nationalism and white supremacy, there is also white guilt: We are not ignorant; we are aware of how our ancestors treated other people, and some of us are ashamed of it.

As Frank Zappa once said, “I’m not black, but I sure as heck wish I wasn’t white!” – from the album, “Freak Out.”

And I don’t even want to speculate on what black people might be thinking of us. And, if it’s not good, well, there are some of us, not just our ancestors, who probably deserve it.

And even if Bets and Gunther “got over it” – and quickly – there’s still their friends – and especially – there’s still their parents!

Not that this can’t be overcome. Not that it isn’t overcome on a daily basis, for that matter. But G&K didn’t show us how Bets and Gunther overcame it.

Instead, they went straight to the telephone, and that has been the story of Bets and Gunther ever since.

A couple of quick points:

1) Bets is unlikely to change. G&K added to her Bio that she “needs” lots of “affirmation” and spends too much time on social media. So she’s going to be doing THIS every darned time she’s with Gunther. EVERY TIME!

2) I think I now know why Bets and Tiffany got along so well when they first met. They got one MAJOR thing in Common: They BOTH Crave attention. And will go to great lengths to get it. Even at the expense of hurting friends.

It’s too really too bad. Bets had such great promise as Gunther’s G/F.

Oh Well. There HAS to be some young woman out there in the VAST Luanniverse for Gunther. One that doesn’t have BAGGAGE.

Story line aside, I’m really enjoying this glimpse into the Con World. My son has been cosplaying Cons since he was 7 (he is 13 now). Halloween just wan’t enough LOL

When they get inside, a mob of love starved women will recognize Gunther and mob him.

she is like far far to many young people today. Their phone is far more important than interacting with people. Sad. I saw 1 young person with an entire crew following him around including a “camera man” with a smart phone on a selfi stick. And its even more sad that they have “fans” watching every second of their lives.

Let me know when this arc comes to an end. Not even vaguely interested.

Poor Gunther. She was talking to her followers on the phone the whole time. That has to hurt like a kick to the teeth…

She’s too busy keeping her nose stuck to her screen to actually enjoy what’s going on around her. Relationship red flag!

Props to Greg for knowing his anime characters: Dodoria from Hero Academia and a passable Sailor Moon. I’m an O.G. anime fan since Astro Boy in 64. I’m 64 and have no plans on leaving the genre. It’s what I grew up with and have come to love.

Before I go back and read the comments, only two words come to mind: Fatal Attraction.

Tomorrow we will see Bets berating Gunthie for walking away while she was livestreaming. She’ll ask him how dare he be so rude to their fans, and show him negative comments from followers because he wasn’t glued to Bets’ side the whole time. She’ll tell him such behavior is unacceptable and he’d better get with the program. And Gunthie will meekly give in.

I hope I’m wrong. I REALLY hope I’m wrong.

Bets has affirmation and validation issues. Gunther is having an euphoric affair with someone who shares a common lifestyle. With Rosa, he was living on her vision ( helping others) until he realized the vision didn’t fit him. Gunther needs to search the universe for his vision.

Gunther is being more open, more exuberant, and more involved here! He’s in his element! … Bets may feel in her element, but she’s more IN (and on) her phone!! … Hmmmm…

Some one needs her phone shoved where the sun don’t shine.

Can someone educate me please. What APP is Bets likely on? If fictional in this comic, similar to what real life APP that exists? Would a common person have “fans” that constantly follow? other than friends similar to FB?

I hope G&K are going bring this to head… somehow. These two will get separated and Bets, after ~ 1/2 hour, will realize she is alone.

So busy Instagramming, she’s missing the Con.

Bets’ phone runs out of power, she insists that they “have to leave”.

Alas, Bets is fixated on her fan club to the detriment of her “boy friend” and has lost him! (In more ways than one? We’ll see.)
