Cats can surprise like that! We took in a feral who’d been living in our garage for years after quite a bit of effort at making friends. Considering how she’d responded to earlier attempts to invite her in, we prepared for the worst when her health made us force the issue. Tabby’s response: “Wow, warm, dry, snuggly stuff that hasn’t been in the garage for a decade, laps that don’t complain about getting cold or how uncomfortable the porch steps are after two hours, and food I don’t have to share with the raccoons and possums?! Why didn’t you TELL me it was so great in here??” There was a bit of drama with the cats in residence (including two of her children who didn’t see any reason for their mother to move in), but Tabby had a happy few years inside with us.

    Tal Bachman: She’s so High

    She’s fur, flesh and bone

    Been on her own

She’s smiles, purrs, toe beans and mugs,

The Humans can’t believe that nothing’s happened,

    It’s just like she belongs,

And not even any cat fur happened, yeah!

    …….

    ‘Cause she’s so high,

    Golden cat fur,

    Puck just loves her,

    She’s so high,

    Like Cleocatra,

    Joan of Purr

    Or Catphrodite!

    …….

    ‘Cause she’s so high,

    Golden cat fur

She’s smiles and charm, you see

What most cats want to be,

She’s like the best of everything!

    …….

    Lupin, try to realize

    All she has to offer,

    …….

She’s perfect as she can be,

In some ways just like Beatrix,

    …….

    ‘Cause she’s so high,

    Golden cat fur,

    Puck just loves her,

    She’s so high,

    Like Cleocatra,

    Joan of Purr

    Or Catphrodite!…….

    High above me

She comes to meow to me

    I floof immediately,

’Cause I want back my recorder!

    …….

    But she’s so high,

    Golden cat fur,

    Puck just loves her,

    She’s so high,

    Like Cleocatra,

    Joan of Purr

    Or Catphrodite!

Could be gratitude, or it could be that Goldie’s a neat freak. Either is helpful in a guest/new housemate. I’m hoping/leaning toward ‘neat freak,’ myself – could make things interesting. =3

One the one paw, it’s wonderful that Goldie is the purrfect cat guest. On the other paw, it makes me a little sad that maybe she’s being so hyper-purrfect because she’s afraid she’ll be rejected again if she isn’t.

Two days after my Mom’s ancient cat crossed the Rainbow Bridge, a very, very pregnant kitty appeared among the flowers in Mom’s window-box, meowing to be let inside. The vet said this wasn’t her first litter, and suspected she might have been abandoned when her folks became aware of her “ interesting condition”. We found homes for three of the babies, and Mom kept “Rambling Rose” and her handsome son, “Grey Boy”. Although Rose enjoyed sitting in the garden, she would meow at the door to be let in, would quickly use the litter box, and then would meow to be let back outside to continue her sunbathing. Guess she was too much of a “neat-nick” to dig and mess up her nice garden.

Goldie reminds me of a little calico who walked into a friend’s machine shop one day many years ago, explored the place thoroughly, found a small pile of Oil-Dri® in a corner, did her business & covered it up ever so neatly, then settled herself in a box of clean rags on a shelf. My friend’s reaction: “I need that cat.” Worried that she might get injured or get into some hazardous chemicals at the shop, he took her home, where she lived a long, happy life.

BTW, Oil-Dri isn’t just for industrial use. I just found out the company also makes “Cat’s Pride” & “Jonny Cat” litters. Kitty knew something I didn’t! :-)

Mr Kitty was obviously a house kitty when we rescued him. He was on his absolute best behavior and kissed up to everyone until he figured out I was the one in charge of feeding and snuggling. Once he also figured out we would never dump him, he returned to his typical cat self. Although he was ALWAYS grateful for the food and the snuggling. Smart kitty.

A good tale of three families: Houdini was a young indoor/outdoor tom across the street whose mom became deathly allergic so he was banished to live in a cattio built off the kitchen window. H would roam and visit all us neighbors, very friendly and appealing to be loved, but skittish about other animals. I never let H in my house knowing he would be too scared of the dogs and other cats. The older couple next door, empty nesters, pet-less, and not wanting one, especially the man, were hyper critical of the younger couple for not trying to find a new home for H. Milo, the big bad-a$$, terror-cat next door beat up on poor H when his parents were out of town and H was limping badly the next day. I went with the older couple to talk to the house-sitter to ask that he let H into the house to recuperate, but the house-sitter refused. Older couple and I came up with a plan. I kept H overnight in my garage and let him out in the am where he would go to eat at his kitchen window then head over to the older couple’s porch to sit in the sun. H quickly figured out who the softie of all of us was and long story short, he is now an ex-resident of younger couple’s house and with their blessing, a full time, love you only, indoor lap companion of the – older man!!!I don’t want to hear any younger couple bashing over this though please. They are the sort of people who fostered kittens until the woman became ill. Sometimes you just can’t let go of what you love.

The timing on this thread is uncanny. My daughter’s Bengal kitty, Winston was stolen. She was letting him run loose. I tried to get her to keep him indoors but there’s only so much you can do. She was distraught. For a week we put up posts in social media. She hired a Private detective with a trained sniffer dog, put up posters. Her posts in facebook had been shared by a few dozen people. He was found yesterday in a dumpster. The kind you rent when renovating your home! That could have been disastrous. We’re so happy he’s home and safe. A visit to the vet will make sure he’s okay. I had just baked him a big batch of treats and bought his Christmas present when I learned he was taken. My daughter is keeping him indoors and she’ll be training him to use a harness and leash.

My LucyLu was so thrilled when I rescued her from my work campus. I was nervous as my barely 1 year old granddaughter was spending the weekend with me. Needless to say the GD could pull tail, ears, slap her and Lucy just laid there and took it. That is when I knew she was a keeper. 9 years later they are still best friends….

Reminds me of my friend’s cat who was a very nice boy, in fact, probably the nicest cat I’ve ever met! He used to patiently wait for food, never meow too much or pester us while eating, sleep by our side but never on our face, and gently meow when we visit the toilet at 2AM and never troubled us at that hour. The most well behaved cat I ever met.

From Georgia’s Facebook on the real life Goldie: “We opened the office that first morning expecting it to be TRASHED. She had been an outdoors only cat the whole time we knew her, she’d been scrappy,… I figured she would have been running around, trying to get out, breaking things, chewing things…Opened the door and the place was just as we’d left it, kibble eaten but not a bite left out, litter box (which had been a big unknown!) used but neat and tidy,… it was amazing. We were floored.”
