Yet another strip that I’m sure, in no way, reflects reality.

Long Elvis! And those giant eyes! Maximum space must be occupied to completely evaluate this anomaly.

Panel 2, what’s Lupin dipping his right paw into? It’s not a mug because there’s no handle. Can’t quite figure out what the design on what-ever-it-is he’s holding, either.

Yikes! Elvis’ eyes look like he’s sleepwalking with his eyes open! (although I suppose sleepwalkers do have their eyes open)

I swear mine have goldfish memories. “Don’t go near Mokey” is generally considered a house rule, because she is always cranky and will swat so hard you can hear the rapid-fire smacks from another room. The other three forget this every.single.day.

Perhaps a certain Orange Cat might convince Elvis that she has been there for years?

Hi folks – We have three felines entrusted to our care. Leo and Merlin are 16 yr old littermates and Luna (my avatar) is 9. Leo had pancreatitis about 18 months ago (literally a week after a certain flea/tick collar was put on) and shortly afterward was dx with the start of kidney failure. Of course he will not touch a single RX wet food, he lost 2 lbs when we tried to convince him. I am giving him blue buffalo k/d dry but because they (the boys) have always been kind of contrary and freakish when it comes to change I had to mix it with the sensitive stomach food as well, also Luna eats out of the same bowl. (They will not “come” to eat dry food) Anyway, we’ve done all we can to try different feeding styles and this is the best we can make happen, we even tried putting a cat door on the office to keep Luna from the k/d food but the boys won’t use it, so it’s fruitless and the vet says the mix is ok for Luna. So now Leo is at 4.8 creatinine and nearly stage 4 and he’s down from 11 lbs to 7.8 in 18 months. It’s good I am home all day because he gets meds 4 x a day and now the vet has us trying fluids subQ. But he HATES it. I mean, this little guy who took literally 11 years to trust us to even come sit with us (they were feral) now doesn’t trust us anymore because we are catching him to stick him with a needle. My heart is breaking and I’m really struggling with what “quality of life” has to mean to us (we already decided no IV treatment, no extremes, just going to the vet for testing means he hides for a week). When we leave him be to eat he does eat his meds but I don’t think we can do anything more. Isn’t it better to have him feel loved and like he can trust us to come lay with us and be snuggled than to give him fluids and have him avoid us? He’s really a pretty happy little guy, even the vet was surprised by his values because he looks fine but I could tell because he was acting quiet… sigh… this stuff is so hard… thanks for listening. Beep/boop

Must be part of the promised slow lead up to the introduction of yet another roommate. Wonder if the big orange cat is still using the laundry/break room undetected?

From Les Miz: I Dreamed a Dream

I dreamed a dream the other night

In the house two other kitties,

Shared the house that was my right,

My kibble, too, it wasn’t pretty.

    …….

Once I was young, the only cat,

Just Woman and I for a season,

I was content just to be

    The Woman’s pirate ballerina!

    …….

Then I woke up from my dream

Thought I’d go and have a nibble

And I found a strange white cat,

Eating up my bag of ki-i-bble!

    …….

I need a mug so I can see!

I need Kat Koffee to get started!

I take a sip, how can it be?

Those two strange cats have not departed!

    …….

I dreamed a dream and I woke up

    After another cup of Koffee

Why do Puck and Lupin seem annoyed?

    It’s Monday, and I dreamed a dream.

Mine check my I.D. every time I return from leaving the house for a time. I must submit to a forehead sniff on the stairs before I’m allowed to pass.

Yum Yum has been known to look at us like that. Lately she has been very easily spooked, poofing up and hiding under the bed with the same look in her eyes as Elvis. We leave her alone until she come sashaying out again.

On another front, I had wriggled all the way under the couch (it’s a reclining one so my seat was lifted) to find yet another errant cable needle when I noticed something wedged under part of the reclining works. Lo! and behold! It was our missing universal remote. Still no sign of the phone, though. I can only take solace in the fact that it’s in the apartment somewhere.

And on the other hand, my daughter, great-granddaughter and I spent a couple of hours navigating WalMart because I was missing ingredients for a soup I wanted to make, hoping that it, too, will tempt Paul’s appetite. I came home and Paul complained bitterly about some bloomin’ idiot who keeps bringing food into the house!

I have a cat with this problem. He will forget the cats the people everything and reverts to a feral cat for awhile. Luckily it never last more then half an hour. He is also very jumpy and licks bald spots in his fur when he overly stressed. Still love him to death.

OT: Our not so feral kitten, Enrico Furrmee, will be going to a foster home this coming Friday. This means he won’t be spending much more time in our basement, to the joy of Waffle and 8-ball. Enrico’s turning into a real charmer. He’s shy and cautious at first, but once he decides to be friends he’s very sweet.

So a few months ago I was shopping and I ran across an electric flea comb for my cat called the Flea Doctor (not a paid endorsement btw) .. I’ve been using it and I have to say, it’s better than giving my cat a bath with flea shampoo.. even more satisfying is seeing a small blue electric spark and rapid beeping noise of the unit saying “I GOT ONE!” as a disgusting flea is electrocuted by two AA batteries.

This past weekend my 12.5 year old cat Lily really started to act out of character. She’s been in the beginning stages of renal failure for over a year now and I was really worried something had happened. So first thing this morning we went to the vet. I was correct. Her levels had more than doubled in less than 3 months. I had the option of doing IV fluids and prolonging her life (with the option of spending most of it at the vet) or allowing her a peaceful ending.

Being a responsible pet owner bites. In some ways I wish this got easier. But each time I break down. At least this time I had my 18 year old son with me. Lily had a good life and knew she was loved. She even managed to outlive some of her closest companions (cancer for one, poor ownership by a step-daughter for another.) I will miss your head boops, and the gentle way you would sit up to tap my leg to let me know you wanted on my lap. You were a lady, wrapped in spitfire when you got angry. May you find your friends at the Rainbow Bridge and play free and happy until we meet again. I will miss you Lilykins.

My mom used to say “For cat’s sake.” She got a kick out of euphemisms she heard grown ups use when she was a kid. A variation, maybe Iowan, was “For corn’s sake.”

Don´t recall where – might have been here tbh – but read about a cat that saw the other cats as strangers because they had a new smell.
