Hmmm, interesting. Lets see how far Greg is going to carry this scenario. I bet either the parents or Brad show up, or some variation of that, then there will be a series of strips on teen sexuality and how parents, teens, friends, etc., deal with it. And for all those people talking about rape, I can’t believe it. But then the internet allows for a wide variety of idiotic, sick, crazy, but sometimes really funny and/or thoughtful comments in blogs.

That phone is ringing again… DAD?

The second ring is different.

No business is going down. They are just gazing affectionately at each other. Pretty sweet, actually. When Quill is out of the picture I wonder who is going to be the apple of Luann’s eye?

I just hope it’s not Gunther. I was a fan of his a few years back, but he was so piteous and weak that it started to annoy me. I remember reading on Wikipedia how Greg gave the reader the opportunity for Luann to choose who she should be with: Aaron or Gunther. I couldn’t understand why most of the readers would pass up a good kid like Gunther…ugh…but then the WHINING and the lack of balls.

Anyway, needless commentary aside, who do you guys think Luann might develop an interest for if Quill should suddenly leave?

Funny, I called it last Monday.

That next call is Greg telling Aaron Hill 2.0 he’s no longer needed, but wishes him well in his future endeavors.

Maybe the second sound isn’t a ringtone. It could be the chime for his phone’s camera shutter . . . and it looks like he is pointing his camera right at Luann’s girl parts. Sly devil!

There are certain times you don’t answer your phone (this would be one of them).

Or maybe it isn’t a ringtone at all in the first panel and something else in Quill’s pants is singing Waltzing Matilda. ;-)

Quill’s dad has serious news to impart. Something is going to make the dad go back to Australia quickly. Quill will want to stay in Pittsville for his senior year(s) (all 11 of them)Maybe LuAnn’s parents will let him stay in Brad’s old bedroom….

Yeah, I figured the only reason anything was going on wth their non-relationship was because Greg was gonna pull the rug out from under ‘em both. .Since the strip really can’t make a huge amount of progress where Luann is concerned and the situation with Quill couldn’t stagnate any more, it was a pretty predictable outcome.

The expressions are SO well drawn – this is a real bonding session, some nice snuggling. I doubt it’ll turn into anything much more, but this is SWEET. The looks they’re exchanging just speak volumes.

I really hope Mr. Evans doesn’t take the cop out of having Quill head back to Oz. I’d like to see Luann get a real relationship for once. Even BERN had one. She did pretty well with Miguel as far as it went – if he yanks Quill, it’ll just be Miguel 2.0. I know summer is the time for re-runs, but…

Just how does she know that an hour is far better then 10 minutes? I was assuming she is still a “virgin” and not very well versed in the romance department?

I’m too boggled by the idea of Quill having Waltzing Matilda as his cell phone ring tone to notice anything else…

Well, well, they got further than Brad and Toni ever did….in a bad, kissing, lying down. The place we ever see Brad and Toni do anything romantic is on Brad’s sofa and they are sitting up. Brad really needs to take Toni into his bedroom. Quill probably should come over and show him how.

Methinks ‘the mood’ is gone. What charisma can survive a verse of Waltzing Mathilda and a text message tone that’s almost as obnoxious as a phone tone? Gad, they’d have to be suprememly emotionally involved to overlook those…..but I’m not convinced they are. IMHO, these ‘momentous’ opportunities always fall far short than what one expects from them. The next thing you know, Quill will be talking about tracking down kangas that are overtaking their homestead in Australia. Luann may as well start looking for another guy…and I think Knute has a lot of potential.

Aw come on now…

Besides, I don’t think Quill’s shirt is conducive to seduction….the dark red shirt with pinstripes seems to overpower his personality and makes me think of a junior office manager who’s trying to make the most of his ten minute coffee break. He probably isn’t even wearing sexy after-shave either. Luann should take the bull by the horns and ask him to leave . When she turns thirty, she’ll be laughing at how dreamy she originally thought he was. If a guy can’t turn his phone off for 30 minutes, he just isn’t that interested in charmng a pretty girl.

It would appear that this Romantic Interlude has maxed out. Now we shall be on the down-side of the curve. Is dad about to recall Quill to Australia? —Quite possibly. How will Luann react, if that is the news?

Read Greg’s blog of 1/16/2012, the whole thing. Although he is taking this to the very edge. Is this ratings month? Is this when the contracts are renewed?

Never understand the panic to answer the phone. It has voicemail doesn’t it? I’ve seen drivers stop in the middle of the road to answer a call instead of ignoring it and sorting it out later.

This arc is a nice contrast to the Miguel line so long ago…showing both sides of teen relationships. Yes, there’s pressure and manipulation, but there can also be real tenderness and connection. So well done!

My pre-teen children read the comics and we have always enjoyed Luann as a family, but this current scenario has taken a turn that is simply inappropriate. The primary audience for comics is CHILDREN, and they don’t need to see images of teenage girl at home, her trusting parents gone, guy in the house ending up in her bedroom … How disappointing.

Having been in this situation before, I suggest getting out of her room pronto—no matter what you think the explanation is, anyone who walks in already has their mind made up—GTFO ASAP. Kiss her on the couch if you have to.

Though frankly, I don’t see why Greg can’t allow Luann a couple of days’ strips worth of ‘fun’. Why should Brad be the only one to get lucky? Speaking of Brad- after he went out in a driving rainstorm to find Shannon, has Toni spent the past several weeks ‘rewarding’ him?

BTW, I’m sure Luann has no concept of how long coitus can last, typically 15 minutes on average… So when she says “…ooooo an hour!…” she probably gives away that she watches a lot of porn.

The young lad can be ready for a second round in under a minute. At least that’s how it was with me when I was a teenager. But now…..I’m one and done.

It may be time to change the dynamics of Luanns’ maturity (not sex, but a real relationship), just as Greg did with Brad (Toni). If so, then Brad and Toni may get married and Quill can move in with TJ. On another note, 58 1/2 minutes, really?! I’d be figuring out what to do with the left-over 15 seconds. But that’s just me. :^)

They’re not going to do it, a deflowered Luann would lose a lot of marketing luster.

hello, I’m a teen, and i’m reading the comments as well as the strip.

Good comments on this strip — some interesting observations.

BTW: I took the musical notes in the last panel to be Quill turning off his handset.

first ring is Quill’s ring tone for his dad, kind of obvious, isn’t it. So, second ring is NOT dad, and sounds just like my cell phone when I turn it OFF. and an hour of pleasure kissing is a possiblity here, but also they might get too hot and cool it THEMSELVES! Am I giving today’s teenagers too much credit for being able to be smart? That is what we keep hoping/telling should happen. and sometimes it actually does.

That should be Aaron Hill.

I think the phone call should be something like Quill’s dad calling to say that they’re STAYING in America, or maybe a phone call from Quill’s mom saying that she and Quill’s dad are divorcing and Quill will have to chose between staying with his mom in America (and being with Luann) or going back “home” to Australia with his dad. I think it is finally time for Luann to do a little more growing up and have a permanent boyfriend.

Let’s hope Luanne finally gets her guy, she’s always been on the outside looking in.

Virgins like Luann are quite conservative at the age of 16. It generally takes months to progress from the first serious kiss to the first “roll in the hay”. Give them time to enjoy the sweet tension of young love. Things don’t move as fast for teenage virgins as they do for divorced people in their 30s. I know from experience.

When Quill was introduced on June 22, 2009, it was established not only that he was an Australian whose dad’s job was of unknown duration, but also that he is a Senior. I hope that he gets to stay and finish out his Senior year.

Sigh Except that if it is highlighted that in Luann-time, Quill is still somehow a senior (he hasn’t been shown as graduating) then that would force a rigid time-reference deadline, which I’m sure the cartoonist is loathe to do.

I agree with the assessment of Gunther. I sympathized and identified with him when he was more of the decent-guy-always-overlooked-because-he-was-decent. But then he evolved into a clueless whiner so insanely oblivious to the obvious and inept in even the most rudimentary social graces that it became, well, repulsive.

It should not take a degree in psychology and schooling by Knute for anyone to recognize Rosa’s interests. Even if she wasn’t throwing herself at him (with class) the mere fact of her insane gorgeousness should be encouragement enough.

I will concur that this is the best sequence of panels EVER to appear in this comic. And I mean these three. Best. Ever.
