   Assuming he lands in the USA, if he sends Oop back to July, 1781, he will be in the middle of the American Revolutionary War. At this time, there were military maneuvers between Washington’s French General Marquis de Lafayette with British General Cornwallis, just a few weeks before Cornwallis becomes trapped at Yorktown, Virginia in September. This should be interesting.

   Other sources give 4+ to 7 inches per year as an actual growth rate measurement.

   I don’t believe it. There has to be a dimension unit error. It is more likely to be 590 inches which is 49 feet … giving about 8.5 inches per year for a 70-year lifespan.
