Ah, the AMC Gremlin. That takes me back.

Those were really good cars

The first car I ever drove was a ‘51 Ford. I was 7, found my Dad’s keys, and started it. I didn’t know about clutches, so it bucked and took off… straight into a culvert.

If your car is ugly, nobody wants to steal it.

I had a friend refer to the Gremlin as “a wedge of cheese.” This one appears to be a ‘70-’72.

Baldo would change his mind if the car was a AMC Javelin a very underrated car.

oh yes: Gremlin, Pinto and Vega, the big 3s answer to energy crisis and those “terrible small cars from Japan” which got great fuel mileage and were reliable.

The first car I got to drive was a 1964 Corvair. I felt safe at any speed.

I drove a Pinto and a Pacer, but not a Gremlin. Missed the trifecta.

My schoolbus yellow Gremlin would eat money at the parts store, or run a long time with lots of stuff broken.

My first car was a 1974 2-door Ford LTD that I bought for about $300. I drove it for about 2 months before it blew a head gasket. Good times.

My first was a 1973 AMC Hornet (big brother to the Gremlin) with a 232 cu in 6-cylinder. It would go 0-60 in under 20 seconds.

It could have been worse – it could have been a Pacer…

If Baldo thinks the Gremlin is ugly, he would physically recoil in horror at the sight of a Pacer

The first car I ever owned was a 1941 Chevy … yes, I am old, but not that old!

I’ve had a variety of pickups, sports cars, and motorcycles over my driving years but the two American-made cars that I remember for their durability, reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfort, were my 1961 Slant-6 Plymouth Valiant and my 1971 Gremlin X with the 150-hp . six engine. ( Both the ’61 and ’71 cars were late productions and featured the modifications and additions for the ’62 and ’72 models. )

First car I ever drove was a VW. Got my license in my folk’s ’70 Vista Cruiser. My first car was a ’67 Mustang GT 390. Set me on the path to a career in auto mechanics…

It’s now a classic, Baldo!

I had one! I loved it! Could see out of the back window so well. My 86 Honda Civic Wagon (push button shifting into 4WD while driving!) reminded me of it in looks & feel only no 4WD on the Gremlin. I had denim seats with copper buttons, and the outside was silver.

I had a 1973 Gremlin X. 258 six, 3 speed manual, Levi’s interior. I modified it, drag raced it, won my class a few times. I delivered a lot of pizza with it, went on my first date with it. I washed and waxed it at least once a week. Just try to find one in good shape now for under $20,000.

My first car was a 1962 Ford Falcon. It had nothing to commend itself to a teenager who wanted to be cool. But suddenly I was the coolest member of my circle, because I was the one with an actual car. Trust me, Baldo, that Gremlin served your dad well.

AMC Pacer was uglier than the Gremlin

He already had that, Baldo — he wanted to get a pilot’s license and put wings on the car so he could brag about how he “flew the coupe”! (Okay, I’ll admit that was bad…) O<[|;o)

I had a 1971 and loved it. It was one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. Wish I still had it.

When I was growing up my folks had fleet cars, aircraft carriers…Mom had a Hudson HORNET and dad drove a Hudson WASP, both were painted USN gray. My uncle, with whom we shared a two-family house, had a Packard Admiral.

When the alternative is walking, no matter the car, your first one is always life-changing.

I learned to drive on a VW Bug. Great little cars; we had two of them in succession. One time my dad drove to the Philly zoo with seven people in the Beetle — he and the biggest kid in the front bucket seats, three more kids including me in the back seat, and the two littlest kids sitting sideways in the luggage space behind the back seat.

…looks like a ’70. Mine was a ’72. Still miss that car.

My first car was an 1972 Mustang.
