In 1956, while a R.I.S.D. classmates enjoyed reading Winnie The Pooh Stories. Dialog was wonderful. Much later I drove to a bridge over the Passaic River in NJ & got a number of people playing ‘Pooh Sticks’ Cop came by to check out what the people were doing, & eventually tossed a stick in the river. We’d go to the other side to see who was the winner. Now halfway to 88 I refuse the act my age, & still manage to keep the rust off the strings of my Tenor & 5 string banjos:
I think whenever an artist takes a beloved children’s icon and debases it with death and dismemberment images, it says a lot about the torment of the artist’s inner life. It is a pitiful cry for help from a hurting soul.
