Actually, I believe Miss Wormwood IS a poor teacher—more concerned about her pending retirement and pension than actually teaching!!

A really good teacher would be able to channel Calvin’s wild imagination and use that to help him learn.

But I suppose teachers like that are employed in overpriced private schools for rich folks’ snotty, entitled brats!!

You can get away with talking back to your teacher, per panel 2, and suffer no repercussions these days!!

I taught at a technical school while in the Marines. Our Commanding Officer based our evaluations on our pass/fail rate.He said, “If the student failed to learn, the instructor failed to teach.”

Had a student actually say this in a letter once about her low grade. I suggested that if I was to take the honor for her low grade then I might take the honor for all the high grades from the same class. Boy was she angry.

I did some grade 4-6 after/summer school teaching and told the kids that I am not a teacher by profession, so I may not do a great job teaching. They, on the other hand, are professional students so if they’re not learning, they’re not doing their jobs.

    It’s great to start them off-balance. :)

With Calvin it isn’t so much a problem of aptitude, it is a problem of attitude. I don’t care how good a teacher is, some students simply will not engage and learn, no matter what the teacher does to encourage learning.
