If you don’t posit the existence of a god, then why is there anything at all (assuming the universe actually exists)? Scientists now claim that their theories/equations prove that the universe HAS to exist, but I smell circular reasoning. So there is a mystery and it has no solution. So carpe diem and don’t worry about it.

You’re right, of course. What people don’t understand is that money expands and lubricates the barter system (or perhaps that it generalizes it). And by providing smaller units of value it solves the problem of having to come up with three-quarters of a chicken to buy that wicker basket.
