Brad and Toni have really got to teach Shannon to respect others’ property and ask permission before messing with stuff. None of this would’ve happened if she hadn’t just assumed everything she sees is hers to do with as she pleases. But more importantly, it could’ve been avoided if Brad and Toni actually monitored the kid’s playtime instead of leaving her to her own devices and just happening upon her mid-activity. What’s going on isn’t a big deal, true, but it is a symptom of a much larger problem.
This reminds me of the school Easter egg hunt when I was in the second grade. The day was rainy so the egg hunt was held in the classroom. All the students were escorted to another holding room while the teacher and aides hid the eggs. When we returned to the classroom, mayhem ensued. Self preservation kicked in and every one was out for him/herself. I only found one egg. One egg that was hand colored with crayons. And when I cracked the egg, the yolk ran out.
Why didn’t they stop her before she broke the third egg? They could both see what she was doing. All of Shannon’s issues are from the lazy adults in her life who never say No to her.
If these two are going to raise this kid, they need to take her in hand and TEACH her!!! They’re taking on the responsibility which means that when you are a “parent” your life and expectations must now take a back seat and you give your every opportunity to direct and mold the child into a person that can cope, be happy regardless of circumstance, and be confident enough to direct their own destiny. Teach the culture she belongs to. Teach her she is part of the universe not a universe unto herself! Too many children are being lost to the self-determination of raising themselves because of the self-centered idiots who think only of their own desires rather than serving needs of the children and their future!
Has anyone stopped to consider Shannon might be developmentally disabled? Today is simply the latest example of her displaying behavior and intellect well below her actual age. It could be a good opportunity for the strip to take a serious look at the problem while giving future teacher LuAnn a chance to consider some of the challenges that might lie ahead.
How freaking HARD is she pressing down on those markers? An egg shell isn’t THAT easy to crack, especially if you’re pressing down with the soft fabric tip of a marker, unless those are weird shaped crayons…also you gotta hard boil the eggs first to avoid messes like this.
This is one of those times when one has to remember that Brad, Toni and Shannon do not exist. They are all sock puppets manipulated by Greg Evans. He makes them act stupid for the funny. Sadly, the funny sometimes isn’t funny. It would be so nice if Greg could make with the funny without his characters having to be so stupid.
So true. A great opportunity for both of you to teach her the real meaning behind the Easter celebration and also show her the proper way to color and decorate eggs!

Any kid who has been shown how to decorate Easter eggs knows they are hard boiled ( or sometimes have the liquid blown out) first.

Why didn’t you guys get her fake eggs?

A little bit of Shannon goes a long way. Where is her father that keeps pawning her off on his poor sister and her husband?

I know it’s a cartoon, but I’m sure I knew at a very young age that you had to hard boil them.

I admire Shannon’s willingness to make her Easter fun herself if none of her relatives thinks of doing it for her. She’s a smart, independent child.

Did you know if you place an egg the long way between the heels of your hand, you can try as hard as you want to crush it, and it won’t break?
