Listening to Dr. Amesworth describe what the Topsiders have been doing is illuminating. They’ve apparently used technology to create a mess they don’t know how to deal with. Their situation is growing worse, looking at what happened in Dr. Amesworth’s lab. Living isolated in bio-suits isn’t an ideal way to live, even if it does protect against the cross-universe effects that they’re evidently to blame for creating.
Endtown, by contrast, is a viable community of humans transformed by the cross-universe effect of a parallel universe of cartoons, with a [mostly] stable system of government and not a too horrible way of life, excluding being hunted by Topsiders of course.
Welcome back, and I wish you all the best for a healthy future! So, as far as the plot goes …. I assume the ‘suits’ prepared for universe-transferring entities were not quite ready in time, so the result is less than hoped for ;) (Or, as put by another, “{Did you say the words right this time} … Well, maybe I didn’t say every tiny little syllable, no, but basically I said them … yeah … basically…” — Ash, Alternate Universe/Time Traveller).
So basically plastic human hybrids like that failed ‘Putterman’ ad campaign from Duracell? Google that and imagine those walking down the street towards you.
The Topsiders must have looked into reproduction, or else they would accept ageing into extinction. So, how would that work? Unshielded offspring become random anthros at some point during development (At Unity they “candled” eggs to see what they would be). Topsiders would have had to do some kind of fertilization and development while keeping it encased in the suit material. Contamination from the plastic, or imperfect sealing could result in some thing weird as offspring. All the topsiders we’ve been shown have had normal proportions in the suits. Their minds could be fried though. The children could be horrendous.
Welcome back Sir Neathery! It’s so exiting to follow this strip in installments just like in the days of Sir Conan Doyle. Except that in Sherlock Holmes there was no critique of the current system/ideology.
