    I’ve heard it said but not sure how true, that a cartoonist is only as good as his/her last cartoon.

    Perhaps that saying is referring to the very last cartoon ever. I once had a choral conductor who told us that we needed to sing the last piece in the concert as perfectly as possible because that was what the audience would remember and judge the performance by.
